Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

THIS THREAD HAS BEEN MOVED FROM THE IT'S STAYING INTACT SO THERE WILL ALWAYS BE PROOF THAT CCP/PYB IS A SOCIOPATH AND REMOVING HIM FROM THE FORUMS - WHILE THE WORK OF ONE MODERATOR - WAS AN ACTION SUPPORTED BY A MAJORITY OF THE FORUM MEMBERS. - TORO When this story first broke, I thought it was likely nonsense that the verdict of the high ranking jury was reversed by a general. Just from knowing the moral character of most of the bros, and especially those who make rank, I figured the guy probably did it. Of course I don't know, nor was I on the jury so that doesn't really matter. But after hearing a rumor of this guy looking over a stall to see some chick pi…

Looking for help/advice on homeowners' insurance. If you've been shopping for a home on the eastern seaboard this summer, you probably know a lot of insurance companies (USAA, Allstate, State Farms) are running away screaming and won't write the policy. This is my first time straying off the USAA insurance reservation (and yes I've read the "USAA" thread) and was wondering what others have to say. USAA is directing me toward ASI. Additionally, I have a quote with Amica, who allegedly has a sterling reputation, but they seem to be TWICE as much as ASI for the same coverage. Is anyone insured with either company? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Of course this is the only forum where I'm comfortable discussing this so here goes... Today I went to finance and was helped by the first openly gay person I've met in uniform...except not only was he gay, he rode a pink surfboard on a rainbow wave whenever it was that he came out. Complete with nail polish, a very meticulously done goatee (I casually asked him if he had a shaving waiver, he said politely that he was working on it). If there ever there was a walking stereotype, this kid was it. To be honest, as far as finance trips go, this was maybe top third. He knew what he was talking about and I don't think I will have to make a second trip. I like to th…

https://www.cnn.com/2....html?hpt=hp_t1 So, does this mean the military will start recognizing same-sex spouses as dependents? Or only if they are married in a state where same-sex marriage is legal? How do you suppose this will work when the sponsor gets a PCS to somewhere that still bans gay marriage, such as Texas?

Don't agree with a lot of her politics, but this is pretty awesome. The guy she is talking to went to a West Point prep school, where he twisted his ankle (He went on to play QB at SanDiego State). He has claimed disability for it, and gotten VA small business preference, as well as the magical 30%. She totally calls him on it.

Got an email today saying I have to fill out some certification in order to comply with some federal clean air act section 69b. My vehicle is registered in Florida, where no smog/emissions test is required. The FAQ in the email says you still have to fill out the form if you register your vehicle in a state that does not require testing. I answered truthfully (no tests done on my vehicles), and then got an email saying I have 30 days to have my cars checked. WTFO

I LOVE BaseOps.net, but even the squadron bar thread requires some semblance and order. I understand that most are still active and will have apprehensions about airing their own laundry, and that you can delete your posts and take 'em back. There're things that don't fit GD or SB categories that need some of our input and that require a man/flyer's opinion. The intent is to keep things between the seriousness of GD (how we do our job) and SB (boobies, beer, and more boobies), probably the information that is most relevant and useful, maybe with a touch of the honesty the we/I put into how tasty a beer or scotch is. Rebuttals? Mods?

Has anyone watched this idiotic show? The name pretty much lays out what the show is all about. The episode I'm watching right now is showing a guy "repossessing" a Gulfstream II and they are implying that the guy is sneaking it out of the airport without airport security (or presumably the FAA or anyone else) knowing. They are taking off out of a NTA at night in this Gulfstream right into IMC. So are they saying they took off into IMC without filing an IFR flight plan? Doubtful.

I'm deploying in a few months for the first time in about 3 years. It's a non-flying gig. For some background, I'm the "gun guy." I have my own preferences on holsters that I've come to by trial and error. My last rote had me flying, wearing a bag, and a shoulder holster was the best option, for me. Now, we're all in OCP's, So a belt holster seems an easier and better option. I haven't been able to find an OI or AFI that dictates what kind of holster may be used for an M9 at the big OEF bases. What I need to know is requirements on position, material, retention, as well as magazine carriers. The easiest way is if someone can point me to the written regs …
