Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I searched for an AFN thread, with no luck (God knows, the ridiculous adds deserve their own thread): Why in the holy hell is AFN still advertising the special operations gunner career on the MH-53, months after the airframe retired?

Here is the story: B-1 rolls into vehicles after landing The Associated Press Posted : Sunday Mar 9, 2008 8:24:56 EDT RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Air Force says a B-1B bomber from Ellsworth Air Force Base collided with two emergency-response vehicles Friday after landing at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. The bomber declared an in-flight emergency shortly after leaving the base and then landed, Ellsworth said in a release. After coming to a stop on the taxiway, the craft started to roll on its wheels and collided with the vehicles, according to Air Force officials. Details on how the accident occurred were not provided. No one was injured. The crew had l…

Fyi guys, USAFpilot just sent me a PM screaming about how 9/11 was faked and we a complacent in congress. Really was a doozie. I think USAFpilot is fake or definitely has opinions of his nation and government unbecoming an air force officer.

Has anyone watched this idiotic show? The name pretty much lays out what the show is all about. The episode I'm watching right now is showing a guy "repossessing" a Gulfstream II and they are implying that the guy is sneaking it out of the airport without airport security (or presumably the FAA or anyone else) knowing. They are taking off out of a NTA at night in this Gulfstream right into IMC. So are they saying they took off into IMC without filing an IFR flight plan? Doubtful.

A French Infantryman's View of American Soldiers by Jean-Marc Liotier The U.S. often hears echoes of worldwide hostility against the application of its foreign policy, but seldom are they reached by the voices of those who experience first hand how close we are to the USA . In spite of contextual political differences and conflicting interests that generate friction, we do share the same fundamental values -- and when push comes to shove that is what really counts. Through the eyes of that French OMLT (Operational Mentoring Liaison Teams) infantryman you can see how strong the bond is on the ground. In contrast with the Americans, the French soldiers don't seem to writ…

Odd request here,... If anyone has a copy of AFR 35-10, ACC Sup, from back in the 1990's, please let me know. I need some info out of it. It might even be in 36-2903, ACC Sup shortly after they changed it to the 36- series.

Hey folks. I am a regular poster on here, but I am hiding my identity (though the moderators could figure it out...please dont!) to keep those who would seek to get dirt on me from doing it! Oh ya, they are out there. Anyway, long story short, I am exploring a run for Congress...I am a guard pilot and can actually do that! I wanted to tell you all, that if I am elected (its a 2010 race) I fully plan to sit down with the CSAF and discuss much of what we have talked about here...as a Congressman. Its still a ways off, but just wanted to let you all know that. Im not your typical politician...though inheriting 50% of the country as an enemy isnt my idea of awesom…

Hey all. I'm a guard dude. Building time at my first 121 gig (regional) and have my apps out to the majors. Frontier just announced a hiring window and I'm wondering if we have anyone from there on these forums that I could talk to. Me: Civilian chief pilot and DO experience, obviously Air Force pilot, speak multiple languages, over a decade of civilian work experience including management at successful startups (including one to IPO). So I'm a fairly driven guy with some unique experiences. However I'm still pretty low time and the Legacy's won't give me the time of day. Again, mainly looking to talk to Frontier guys right now to learn more about how I maximize my app du…

Found this on a blog somewhere, and hadn't seen it here (or anywhere else) and thought they were amusing enough to repost here... Abide by these aviation commandments: 1. Thou shalt abstain from the intersection takeoff for, verily, the runway behind thee, as the altitude above thee, cometh not to thine aid when thou needest them. 2. Thou shalt not linger on active runways lest thou become like unto ground sirloin. 3. Ignorest thou not thy checklists for many are the switches, handles, gauges and other demons awaiting to take cruel vengeance upon thee. 4. Thou shalt cast thine eyes to thy right and also to thy left as thou passeth through the air lest thy…

Just ran across this story via a few different news outlets - appears to be legit. It's based on a letter written to the Elliot.Org website about a pilot who simply "Did the right thing." Teaser bit: ...In LAX, the lines to both check a bag and get through security were exceptional. He got to the airport two hours early and was still late getting to his plane. Every step of the way, he’s on the verge of tears and trying to get assistance from both TSA and Southwest employees to get to his plane on time. According to him, everyone he talked to couldn’t have cared less. When he was done with security, he grabbed his computer bag, shoes and belt and ran to his…

So I’ve tried TSP customer service, DFAS and myPers and nobody can explain to me how to allocate past the $20,500 for 2022. I don’t even know how many months I need to be overseas to max it, or if it’s prorated depending on how many months you spend overseas in a calendar year. Has anyone done this and if so how much can I contribute and how many months do I need to be overseas? What happens if I exceed the limits? Once I max the Roth TSP do I need to then reallocate into the traditional TSP or if I go a penny over the 20,500 allotment does it lock it out the traditional TSP? after hours on the phone I have no answers.

Looking for someone with any insight on buying airline tickets... I am looking to buy a 1-way ticket from Venice (or somewhere close) back to the States this Summer, but I'm having trouble finding a decent price. I don't need a round-trip ticket, and when I use the major search engines the price for a 1-way ticket, the prices are usually double what a round-trip ticket costs. Anyone on here figured out a way around this?

Summary... The AF donated/loaned a Twin Mustang to CAF in 1968. They changed their donation regulations in 1970 and now want the plane back. CAF flew it until the mid-80s when it was damaged, but they have almost returned it to flying status. The AF is now demanding that it be returned to the AF museum, which already has a Twin Mustang. Their primary reason is that they don't want it flying...seriously, would you rather see this thing at a museum or flying at an airshow? CAF Twin Mustang

Two guys died (one translator and a British Commando), I wonder if he will wrap himself in the 1st amendment and publish photos of the guys who died so that he could live? Story here. KABUL – British commandos freed a New York Times reporter early Wednesday from Taliban captives who kidnapped him over the weekend in northern Afghanistan, but one of the commandos and a Times translator were killed in the rescue, officials said. Reporter Stephen Farrell was taken hostage along with his translator in the northern province of Kunduz on Saturday. German commanders had ordered U.S. jets to drop bombs on two hijacked fuel tankers, causing a number of civilian casualties…
