Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Anyone heard of this company or know what this entails? This is a DoD skill bridge listed on the DoD Skill Bridge website in the Seattle area and I'm honestly just curious about it.

Pentagon’s Lightning Gun Sold for Scraps on eBay All of which would make for a funny little story, if that buyer didn’t discover that the multimillion dollar “Joint Improvised Explosive Device Neutralizers,” or JINs, were kluged together from third-rate commercial electronics, and controlled by open Wi-Fi signals. In other words, the Pentagon didn’t just overpay for a flawed weapon. On the off-chance the JIN ever worked, the insurgents could control it, too.

In a recent thread I ran across someone talking about great spit flying in a miniseries called "Piece of Cake." I grabbed it off of netflix to my surprise and in fact it really is wonderful. There's some great formation stuff, as well as a Spit flying under a cobblestone bridge with about ten feet on either side. I hadn't thought there was a good flying flick that I hadn't come across. I don't want the obvious ones. I want more of the "Only Angels Have Wings," "A Guy Named Joe," and "Towards the Unknown" type films. I just discovered "The War Lover" with Steve McQueen which is a must see for you World War Two buffs. Let's hear em! Cheers! -Stuck

https://www.npr.org/2017/12/15/570810197/u-s-army-green-berets-accused-from-within-of-lowering-standards An unnamed SFQC cadre member wrote a letter talking about how the culture at the SFQC has changed to drive graduation numbers up instead of getting the right guy for the job. Pretty damning accusations that sound very similar to a lot of the complaints I hear from the UPT bros. I think the author(s) raise interesting points with not too much in the way of emotional grandstanding. Also, the response from the 2 Star is interesting in his defense of treating the objective measurements as diagnostics and not pass/fail events. Thoughts?

Saw this on DrudgeReport. Pretty awesome stuff that the Brits have revealed publicly. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1811 Fair Use Excerpt: New technology that can make tanks invisible has been unveiled by the Ministry of Defence. In secret trials last week, the Army said it had made a vehicle completely disappear and predicted that an invisible tank would be ready for service by 2012. The new technology uses cameras and projectors to beam images of the surrounding landscape onto a tank.

I intentionally removed "elite" from the threat title, but credit for execution! Here is the story: B-1 rolls into vehicles after landing The Associated Press Posted : Sunday Mar 9, 2008 8:24:56 EDT RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Air Force says a B-1B bomber from Ellsworth Air Force Base collided with two emergency-response vehicles Friday after landing at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. Details on how the accident occurred were not provided. No one was injured. The crew had l…

I know what I am going to do but am just curious to see what all of you would do in this situation...Got picked up off the street for a guard viper pilot slot and just found out my OTS recruiter rolled over an FY08 OTS Pilot slot application to the just released 0901 OTS Pilot Board. Curious to see what those of you on AD, in the guard, in ROTC/OTS, on casual etc would do in this situation. Nothing like having great options though it is a tough choice and kind of begs the question as to which is the better gig in today's world...guard or AD. Opinions wanted...talk it up

First, I want to say that my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti. They already had it hard enough and this disaster will do nothing but make their lives even more difficult than it already is. That being said, any word on what the Air Force is doing for relief efforts? Who gets to go? Is it possible for a casual LT to volunteer to go down there and help out for a few days? Keep these people in your thoughts...

For those going cross-country westbound this weekend, Hangar 24 Brewery is having the grand opening of their new Lake Havasu, AZ location. B17 should be there, plus a number of airshow performers hanging out. Good times... especially if you show up in a military aircraft in your flight suit. If you're military and will be there, drop me a note. The beers are aviation-themed, and the artwork on the labels is classic. Even better... the beer is outstanding. https://www.facebook.com/Hangar24Havasu/ https://hangar24brewery.com/index.htm

I know this is a overwhelming Air Force operator's forum, but I would like to say happy birthday to all Marines that derp through these forums. Although currently I am an Air Force loadmaster (and future AF pilot), I will always hold my time as a Marine Corps infantryman close to heart. Many memories, good and bad, but much like the Air Force, it is your bros that keep you going through the tough times. Happy Birthday Marines past and present! "No better friend, no worse enemy."

Had to park the car at a farm and ride the four wheeler up to the inlaws cabin in NC. Nothing like starting the new year with a stiff drink, ragin fire, and view of the snow covered Smokey Mountains. Hope you and yours the best in the coming year..and keep those young airman, soldiers, sailors and marines on the front lines in your thoughts and prayers (if so inclined). Happy New Year. OL Patch
