Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

  1. Started by HuggyU2,

I brought this topic up elsewhere with military pilots I know, and it turned into a pretty good thread. A number of them are airline Captains and provided great perspective. I doubt I'll see anything new here... but since it was quite a fun and lively discussion, I'll ask. "Center the bug"... it's what airline pilots do, right? When you roll out of the turn in LNAV, you put the heading bug at 12 o'clock. "A married bug is a happy bug." "Heading to follow..." In 28 years as a military pilot, I seldom cared where the heading bug was if I was navigating on something other than a heading. In the U-2, I bugged my flameout heading. On final approach, I could bug…

Hey guys, I've been lurking here for a little while and finally found something worthy of posting. I found a link to this on another forum and it was just too good not to share. It was really hard to pick out a favorite line, but I think mine was, "BTW A one time experiementation while in the military, does not make one a homosexual." Enjoy... Mall Ninja

Currently I am waiting to go to OTS and just a little confused about how a CCW works in the military as well as for my civilian spouse. Do I keep my current state of residency and not have to register for a new one moving to different states? Or do I have to register it at every state that I move to? Also how it works having one on base. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

I didn't bother searching the forum before making this thread because I'm pretty positive it hasn't been discussed on here before. Here is a hypothetical for the forum. Lets say you were bored and happened to be browsing an adult website or two in your spare time and came across(sts) a picture that was of a friend of yours. And in this picture your friend is wearing her cheerleading outfit from college and the picture is clearly lifted from an Athletic Association archive or something similar. Sadly said picture does not link to any actual videos or images of the person in question but that is no surprise because, in theory, knowing this girl you would know that such…

It's that time, I am within a year of my ADSC and starting to get nervous about job prospects. Obviously I could just post a resume to Monster.com or the like, but I am looking for advice from others who have made the jump back to civilian life. My bachelor credentials are really not that relative after 6+ years out of any practical school experience (EE). And I am a 12B so aviation wise not qualified for squat. I am really hoping that simply having been an officer and aviator with a current clearance will net me some luck, but I doubt monster.com is going to be much help aside from finding entry level jobs. Are there any good placement firms/resume posting hubs f…

  8. You've probably seen the original 'Chuck Norris' list - well here are some new ones straight from the source document for all you Tactics guys. Excerpt from CNTTP 3-69 (Chuck Norris Tactics, Techniques and Procedures) (UNCLASS) 1) Chuck Norris executes a banzai gameplan regardless of awareness and AMR. Short-skate tactics are for the weak. 2) Chuck Norris is always in the “advantageous element.” 3) Chuck’s commit criteria is JFS Start. Mr. Norris doesn’t need avionics or a weapons system to be lethal. 4) Chuck Norris once had a wingman call a KIO for a PTO shaft failure. Chuck said he was “rejoining chase” and subsequently gunned the guy for being …

What I don't get is what he did that was so horribly illegal that it necessitated a "manhunt". AFIK, naughty language over PA isn't a crime, blowing a slide isn't a crime. Stealing beer is a crime, but not "manhunt" worthy. Either way, to this dude, I bet we all wish we could quit a shit job with such style!

We have a stash of books to 'gift' any Air Force squadrons that want to make a quick buck. Might help buy a few kegs of beer for the squadron bar. Time is of essence. Have to shift the books before the second week of Feb. Please see post 13 below for stock levels and post 15 below for instructions. Only cost to you is shipping, which is approx. $1 per book. That can be paid in US $ to my business partner Col (ret) Doug "Disco" Dildy (ex-Eagle driver). Payment details will be sent once the books have arrived with you, so it's a no risk deal. Thanks.

Interesting story out of California about drones impeding efforts to fight the fire that swept across the highway yesterday. Five drones showed up in that short period of time, given this and a bunch of other stories I've heard in recent months I would expect legislation is coming.

I don't think this topic has come up yet... Now that it's the holiday season and we're doing a lot of traveling, I bet lots of us are ducking into the USOs at airports all across the country. If you're military and you HAVEN'T been into a USO on a layover...well, you're missing out. These folks know how to make travel bearable. I'm sitting at DFW in the USO right now getting free highspeed wireless and charging my battery for the flight to Chicago. I don't really mind the layover when the refreshments are free and I can watch the game and whore up BaseOps. So what are the "best" USOs you've seen? Any gouge on what's good...and what's not? OK, this forum has generated some miracles in the past, so I'll give it a try… I am looking for a Yugo or East German bayonet for an AK-47 (specifically, an M70AB2). If anyone has any sources or knows of one at a good price, drop me a PM or post here. Not looking for a standard AK bayonet, need one in black (hence the Yugo or East German specification) and in new or near new shape. I'd prefer a Yugo, but I am not choosy if the price is decent. Cheers! M2
