I wish. Wife is reigning me in on firearms purchases for now. It may be a while. The really hard part will be justifying my ammo purchases with very many 50 rd drums. It's like buying an airplane. The initial cost isn't what gets you it's the long-term caring and feeding.😁
  5. I’d like to command a flying squadron, I’m in one right now. I’d also like to do staff in Hawaii or Europe. GO…shoot man, let’s see if I even make it that far. I’m leaning towards going back to being a TR and picking up MPA, seeing if I can get what I want that way. The Mrs and I would like to buy a forever house in-base for the airline. Trying to get informed on all the options before I close a door. I’m not sure in-res does anything for me, but trying to confirm that suspicion. But maybe it opens up some cool opportunity I haven’t considered.
  6. You're correct, my guard unit had a board for one spot and they got 200 apps. Granted, many were not even close to competitive and were tossed quickly. The F-35 helmet weighs less than you'd think looking at it and for how much tech they crammed in there, but when you're pulling 8g's, it adds up quickly. Never flew with it myself. The F-15 and F-16 block 40/50 helmet is the worst both in total weight and where that weight is balanced. As far as when you can/should move your nugget in a fight, that improves with experience. Which is why early on, you're rougher on your neck and do better for your neck as you get more experience. Again, I think a lot of this is getting mitigated as the AF is finally putting money and effort into pilot long term health rather than the approach when I was young of 'Here's a weight room and a bottle of ibuprofen, good luck'.
  7. Time will tell. Don't presently know.
  8. Did it go missing or did it just drop of as a FR24 track as it descended into AUAB? I could be wrong, but this seems like a headline to get some clicks!

Have you bought it yet? It kills me he doesn't have a video with a drum mag
  11. Do you want to command, higher staff, GO, etc?
  12. Thread revival. I palace fronted a couple years ago, got on at a Legacy, picked up some AGR orders because it made sense for family. I find myself in a position where I can apply for IDE in-res. I did WIC-->OLMP-->ACSC, so doing more IDE doesn't hit any wickets that I'm missing. I'm intrigued if doing IDE in-residence opens some kind of door for cool opportunities in AFRC that I'm missing. The plan leaving Active Duty was to keep my foot in the door while being an airline dude, so I've done well on that front. Wasn't planning on getting an AD retirement, but these AGR orders popped up unexpectedly and take me to 15. I think if I can figure out how to get to 20, may as well, I already have the line number.

  16. That video is wild! So glad nobody got seriously hurt.
  17. No one is going to talk about the 767 making a pit stop at the bakery?
  18. You’re seriously going to pull up a post from 4.5 years ago to make excuses for your poor attitude? Yeah….we’ll moderate you until you regularly have something beneficial to add to the site. If you want to message me, CH, and M2 to chat about it more it privately, that’s fine.
  19. Makes sense, we had “degree preferred” many many moons ago and nobody was touched below 5,000 hrs mil time and plenty of PIC time when I was hired about a decade and a half ago. Not the case now by any means. Delta, FedEx, UPS, etc. at that time and most others had “mandatory” in their hiring process and no big deal for mil guys although Widget did not only care about your GPA, but were focused on the length of time to complete the degree. Now it’s portrayed as “preferred” as the times have eased bit by bit within 10 years or so. Granted, there was the 250 hr min pushed to 1,500 hrs for the basic entry - mil and aviation educational institutions aside. Definitely not like it was for the lost decade of pilots after 9/11 which dictates the cyclic nature of our industry. It all just ebbs and flows like many opportunities in life. Airlines hire until they don’t, furloughs happen likewise and companies grow or disappear overnight all situation dependent. When you retire will be the only time one can judge looking back if they had a great career, etc. If you did I will say timing had to be a big part of it. As we know it’s never too late to be ambushed by reality so stay frosty. *As ID mentioned, you will go thru the training anyway. The funny part for my class was that only one of us had the 747- 400 Type Rating and he was an AF guy. Took me forever to figure out how he got the AF to pay for it. Turns out he was part of the AF 747-400 Laser Test Group. He was never in class and just learned airline specific nuances while sitting on the beach for nearly three months for OE. “Call me if you have any questions” he said.
  20. Dude, just read the room. Look at how many threads with literally thousands of posts and millions of views going back decades that are devoted to political centric conversation. Talk about airlines in the "airlines thread."
  21. @HeloDude confirm this fits within your guideline of not making "every post political"? can you elaborate on the political allowances in non-political threads so I can comply in the future? 🙏
  22. Friendly reminder the this thread was started to NOT be political.
  23. Careful, he'll accuse you of beating his wife or something; my TDS is making it hard to keep up. 🤷‍♂️

  26. Thank you for the insight, yes that is what I've heard regarding the F-35 as well. That is the platform I'll be applying to mostly for these ANG units. A bit presumptuous of me to suppose I'll be selected anyway, I think these guys get like 300 apps per slot. I'll apply though, I've yet to meet a fighter who said it wasn't worth it.
  27. Interesting, many thanks for your thorough reply. That's a good point and one I've been considering too; knowing my luck I'll turn away from fighters just to get rear ended by some bozo on the way to my office job on my 34th birthday and develop neck issues anyway. You would think they'd have developed a lighter helmet and more reclined seat for the F-35s by now, though I get they pack a ton of tech in that helmet. You reckon you have some breathing room to be strategic with your neck positioning during BFM to avoid the check 6 axial shear? I figured they pick that stuff apart during debriefs. Definitely would agree with ya that the F-35 would be tremendously disadvantaged in air to air against the F-15 or 16. Didn't realize that was a debate, lol
