Changing/Switching airframes
Usually the Phoenix programs are for the shiny pennies. AMC uses it as a breadth program to either get experience in a different MWS (Reach), the AOC/CRG (Mobility), or staff (Torch). Reach and Torch are usually reserved for top strat'd Bob's with upper management written all over them. Mobility is all over the place...not everyone wants to play Army. https://www.amc.af.mil/News/Features/Display/Article/1550267/amc-pushes-boundaries-through-innovative-officer-development-programs/ Bottom line, to the OP or whoever else wants to get out of their airframe...is don't just sit, bitch, and wallow in self pity. Work hard, be a bro/bra, and earn a way out. If you just do the bare minimum your CC isn't gonna push you to do shit except maybe go somewhere you don't wanna go (are non-vols to pred's still a thing?). And don't just auto delete all the MyPers emails. Those are the official ways to apply to special programs (89th, U-2, B-2, etc)...which guess what? You still generally need a push from your Sq/Gp/Wg CC for those programs. And, at least at the 89th (but I imagine everywhere else also), you will definitely get bro/bra checked.

Changing/Switching airframes
Easiest is to go teach at UPT, but that will only be temporary and you'll end up back in the tanker unless you can swing a follow on PIT assignment. Phoenix Reach/Mobility can also get you out of the tanker for an assignment. 89th or Flight Check are more permanent options. And there is always the tiny chance of a mechanical crossflow.

What's wrong with the Air Force?
How many non-civ military only fields even have a CATIII approach? Andrews is the only one I can think of.

The new airline thread
Just finished indoc at American. They are definitely hooking up the mil guys who had CJOs & class dates that got COVID'd. To my surprise, we are getting full benefits...so I now have a seniority date, pay date, travel benefits, and hacked my 401k clock. So now when I get off AD I'll start at AAL with damn near year 3 seniority and pay. I'm pinching myself.

How do you feel about your airframe and mission?
89th guy now. If you want to occasionally fly in blues but go to awesome locations then don't immediately delete the MyPers email for once.

The new airline thread
I actually have no idea what is going on with SWA. Just getting back from a trip with no signal, min turns, and max duty days...so what's going on/the truth?

Jet down in DFW
People are saying either a T-38 or T-45 crashed in Fort Worth. Hoping for the best! https://abc7ny.com/fort-worth-plane-crash-military-lake-texas/11031300/

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
I don't think I would have gambled a 3 year ADSC extension (because of COVID) if it wasn't for the extra bonus money. I probably would have taken the ART job or DSG options I had. I sure do regret not taking the ART now! Granted, I'm also not the main consumer the bonus is being marketed to. The AF really wants people to stay til 20, thus why they dropped the shorter term bonus. Better question, with the rate the airlines are going to higher...can the AF take a risk messing with the bonus any more just to find out if that 30% would stay regardless? I mean...what if it drops to 10%? Are they prepared to basically gut an entire FY of officers?

What's wrong with the Air Force?
My buddies in college who went the civilian path to the airlines all beat me to a seniority number (some by a significant amount and some by weeks)...but my quality of living was definitely higher during the in-between time. Hard to say, but even the dozen deployments to the Deid is better than the first 6-9 of years of regional pay (and arguably better than regional crash pads). Overall, no regerts.

Information on PCS/moves/moving (DITY, TMO, DLA, storage)
Anyone have any "inconvenience claims" advice? The shipper will not make the required delivery date and it looks like my stuff hasn't even moved after it got packed. Googling it seems like I will get M&IE at the local rate but no lodging reimbursements.

The new airline thread
Well, it would appear AAL is bringing me on to hack a line number (no pay date). I had a CJO from back in March of 2020 that got COVID'd. I'm still on AD and I signed the 3 year bonus a year back. So pretty pumped they are doing this...and smart on their part since I was planning on shopping around with SWA and UAL when I eventually got out (again), but not anymore. 2 years of seniority on day 1 is pretty appealing.

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
If it makes you feel better, even the national run airlines pay their pilots pretty well, and I don't see American airlines absolutely disappearing in your scenario. Nearly every country has some sort of domestic/national airline.

KC-135 Tanker Q&A
B45's been around for what? Over a decade now? It's not "new" to the KC-135 at all. Obviously we've got a lot more B45 tails now, which could be helping to rear the ugly head of some software issue that has always been there, which surfaces during very specific conditions. Very true, there will always be things that the boys and girls at Edwards can't discover until it hits the line.

KC-135 Tanker Q&A
Same. I was helping at Edwards doing B45 test and don't recall anything like that happening. We were just spending an inordinate amount of time trying to make the Navy stay on the MPRS hose with the B45's roll knob.

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
Will they even approve a PC from a bonus? Isn't that a SECAF level approval with no delegation lower?

Retirement / Separation Considerations
How important is getting 15 years total active duty time if I want to separate, snag a line number, and then get an AD retirement via AGR/IMA/etc? Dates: ADSC Expires: Sept 2023 15 years TAFMS: Feb 2024 Options: I can get out with just under 4 months of terminal when my ADSC expires in Sep 2023 (so May 2023) with 14 years 7 months AD time or "only" roll over 60 days and get out at 15 years time in Feb 2024 (so Dec 2023). I'd like my cake and to eat it too, so getting out as early as possible with 4 months of leave built up would be preferable to hack a line number anywhere...but I'd also like to guarantee an avenue to the pay check for life club since I'm so dang close. I've heard some airlines (cough Delta) are sticklers on only taking 5 years of SCRA...but most of the others will let you take 6 years off without any issue. Also, not afraid to deploy or snag a job at TACC to get "contingency orders" if needed. Thoughts?

What's wrong with the Air Force?
Glad every Agency Superintendent agreed...but what did the Agency OIC's say? WTF were the Chief of IG (generally a pilot), Chief of Safety (pilot SQ/CC in waiting), Chief of Command Post (pilot), and the DS (a disgruntled pilot who hates their job) doing when this was rolled out?
