  1. Sometimes looking at these threads can be discouraging. It seems like nearly everyones scores are 90+ across the board, stellar GPAs, etc... Well heres some hope from an average joe who was just picked up by a heavy unit... Here is my AFOQT Super Score P:82 CSO: 61 ABM:63 ACAD: 31 Verb: 51 Quant: 20 PCSM:85 My point here is that its possible, even if your scores aren't amazing, you may just have to work a little bit harder. You NEED to network with someone at the squadron you want to attend, preferably someone within the hiring process or that has a good relationship with someone in the process. You will likely never get selected for an interview with potentially hundreds of applicants when you have scores like mine. They need to be able to put a face to the name. I applied to 5 units, got TBNT from 3 that i knew no one at and 2 interviews at the others because i did. Securing the interview is the most difficult part of this process, once you get that then its just up to you being yourself. If you're introverted like me, push yourself to talk to folks during the socials even if its intimidating or draining. People love to talk about themselves just keep asking questions, even if you already know the answers.

To say nothing of the antagonism against ARC members who seek to prioritize homesteading in their career choices, as somehow not worthy of carrying the cost of keeping us "uniformed". If I had a quarter for everytime I've heard "if your billet is non-deployed, you shouldn't wear green". Basically the deployable/non-free agent True Scots fallacy of who deserves the benefits of 20 years of military service. Talk about penny wise pounds foolish. Of course *ART has entered the chat* *IMA has entered the chat* *RMP/Cat E has entered the chat*. In fairness, most of the vitriol on that front have come from Army types. An especially caustic organization from a cultural perspective if I may say so, given my limited (largely CONUS) interactions with said types.

  7. Let me repeat it for you: There are far more Catholics than Buddhists in the west. A major Catholic figure doing something like this will garner much more attention, concern, and eyeballs for advertisers than a major Buddhist figure. The western audience sees this, goes "gross, glad that's not happening here" and changes the channel. They see something about the Catholic church, and they're glued to the TV to see if their local church is one of the ones involved in the scandal. In short - one gets more attention than the other, because one attracts more viewers than the other.

  8. Just wait till this summer's exodus! We ain't seen nothing yet, and the next few years' summer-leaving-cycle will be compounded by continued airline hiring and more pilots entering free agency, combined with expiring ADSCs from the select-a-year-quanitity AvB from a few years ago.

I just heard from the bobs at my AFRC unit that the people on high have directed that anyone coming from AD to our unit who is current and qualified will be gained as an overage without hurting our manning/hiring numbers. Our unit is healthy, but big blue is bleeding pilots so badly they have to dictate such measures. In other news, this is my last day in the AF. Thank God.

  10. I think your post is pretty spot on. Nobody is going to get hired because they brought the nicest bottle. But, it’s also a tool to help people remember you/your name when discussions on who to hire come up, FWIW.

  11. I entered IFS/UPT with 0 hours and was fortunate enough to drop a Hog. How to get from A to B? From my experience it boils down to knowing yourself, commitment and timing. 1. Knowing yourself: I know I"m a quick learner so I wasn't too concerned about getting hours beforehand. That being said, if you know you are a bit slower to get things down then when the firehose hits (and it will) I can see where previous experience will provide you with a solid foundation to help you stay afloat. 2. Commitment: For the majority of both phase 2 and 3 I came home after a 12 hour day, ate dinner and hit the books/chairflew until I went to bed. Every single night. If you want it that bad you will put up with seemingly never ending groundhog days and consequently do well. 3. Timing: This you can't really control but you can work your ass off and hopefully put yourself in a position to be there when the aircraft you want drops. There are many small steps to take to make it to the end, take it one day at a time and good luck!

  12. ired I had min time from the hours I acquired thru ROTC. Prior to that I was in a light airplane only once and quite frankly it scared the crap out of me. Add the time I got to peer into a F-4 cockpit and thinking "no f*cking way I could ever do this," I was pretty intimidated about the idea of going to UPT. I was a surfer dude barely making it thru the U of Hawaii. No preconceived notion of what I wanted to fly, just hoping to graduate. I was the most unlikely candidate to be a DG and go on to fly F-4s. As previously stated, it's all about attitude, setting high standards and most important of all, building confidence in yourself.

  14. As long as you pass the FACT, your score doesn't matter. FACT does not directly weight into the overall ranking. However, if you can't pass it you may not have the best commander's ranking. Here's some info on and here's some info on

  15. Having JUST finished all that stuff a last week, it will take the full time to check in. I would even follow IGB's advice and show up early if you can. My RNLTD gave me one work week to get everything done and I didn't have time to finish everything. Had I shown up a day or two earlier, it would have helped out a lot. Since you're probably casual right now, your CC will probably let you go early. Also, I think it will help to know that stuff.

  16. Start memorizing. The first week WILL be that much inprocessing. You have to go everywhere - except the flightline... you hit medical, dental, finance, SF (if you have guns) and for vehicle tags, housing to get a place to sleep and study... and on and on. A week is a nice amount of time, I think I had 3 days. In any case you will have plenty of time to work on memorizing ops limits and boldface and still get inprocessed. Show up knowing them cold and life will be a LITTLE better - trust me once you hit the flightline you will be looking for any way to make life even a LITTLE better. Get to work! [ 13.   18. Well one is potentially a crime, and the other is a strategic decision about when to prosecute that potential crime. Seems like a pretty simple distinction to me. And I'm not saying trying to influence an election is bad. That's literally what running for office is. That's why people raise money, and run attack ads, and try to win debates. But the common thread here is: don't be an idiot. If you have skeletons that will hurt your election chances and are going to pay people off, be smart about it and don't get caught. Because you can bet the other team is going to have a field day if they figure out what you did. Im not really interested in making value judgments either way. You all know my opinions on trump but on the flip side of the coin, I don't think the Dems are on some morally virtuous crusade. They're making hay while the sun is shining. That's it.
