  1. Thanks to all who have spent the holiday in a far away place.

  2. Given that we're a "total force" now, I've always said they should move AETC to the ARC. While some wouldn't care to teach UPT/FTU, many would. It's a ANG dream, no deployments, no chem gear, much easier job to maintain as a part timer...it's a no brainer from that perspective. You'd have no problem filling squadrons and keeping great experience around to teach the young studs. Free up all those AD IP's to fill the spots in AD squadrons. Rotate a small number of AD pilots through to keep a fresh look/perspective, but that will naturally happen as we hire AD pilots anyway. If we had something like that, I'd probably still be in.

  4. My daily driver is a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance. I drive 48 miles round trip to the base I work at and it costs .60 cents to charge. I love it; it's been one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Just hit 30,000 miles on it and had no issues other than the shit paint that Tesla uses. Things that I would recommend: Don't buy Full-Self Driving (FSD). You can get it for a month for a $99 subscription for long road trips (if you want). Get a Level 2 charger installed in your garage. If you live in a colder climate (I live in Denver), make sure to precondition the car (battery and climate control turn on). The range won't be affected so much by cold weather. The insurance for EVs is absolutely ridiculous due to the cost to repair them and the fact if the battery is damaged in a crash, the vehicle is most likely to be totaled. Just like an airplane, autopilot is cool when it's engaged, but you still have to monitor it and it'll do weird shit and you'll have to take control. Sunglasses will fool the camera inside the car and you won't get as many "pay attention" alerts from the car when autopilot is on. EVs are very heavy compared to similar ICE vehicles; you'll go through tires faster. Most tire manufacturers make "EV only" versions of their tires that have stiffer sidewalls (like BQs Mom). The Tesla Supercharger network is great, however with more EVs now using Tesla's adapter as the industry standard, expect to see longer wait times. If you're buying a Tesla, get a CCS adapter so you can charge at Non-Tesla fast chargers. YouTube TV works in the YouTube app for Tesla. Sentry Mode pays for itself with the fact it's always recording from all the cameras all the time (if you have at least 20% of battery life). Model 3 Only: Get the Performance over the Long Range. Both are AWD, however, the Performance has Sport Mode which is insanely fast and the range difference between the two models is negligible. Don't listen to anyone who doesn't have an EV about how it is to own an EV. They're usually dipshit and spout off some propaganda they learned on the internet. If you miss an ICE vehicle, just get a fun one. I also own a 2024 Z51 Corvette Stingray.

  7. Highly recommend. I've left mine at the airport for 2 weeks in near freezing weather and had no issues. Most of the anti-Tesla stuff you see is people who've never owned one, had a terrible use case or are bad at planning ahead. The older resistive heating cars lost of energy during cold sub-zero weather, newer Tesla's all have heat pumps and aren't nearly as bad. It is maybe a 15% degradation in below-freezing temps. When the car is sitting at the airport you're going to lose 1-2mi/day in mild temps, 3-4 in below freezing and 10-12mi/day if you leave sentry mode on. If you forget or can't remember if you turned sentry mode off, you can just turn it off in the app. I would highly recommend a Tesla to anyone who can have a charger at home, dedicated off-street parking and commutes less than 150mi/day. If you live in a rented apartment or drive greater than 400mi road trips weekly, they're probably not for you. I wouldn't recommend any other EV. Even road trips are easy with superchargers. Did a 2,000 mile trip in the cold last winter, no issues. The car can go further than my kids can between stops. You'll be amazed at how few lawyer-driven nannies there are. I now despise all the bongs/chimes a Ford, GM, BMW, etc... give you and how they won't let you do things like enter GPS points when moving, even with a passenger. The tech just works every time. It is awesome. All built in America by an American company.

  8. Poland was part of the German Reich only twenty years ago! The Allies have really put us in a threatened position by surrounding us with an alliance, the Little Entente! Many of the people there really vibe with us ethnically and not the Poles! Poland is really just a corrupt autocratic state anyways. Besides, there's no way Britain/France can help Poland, so it's a waste trying.

  9. Ok, two different things.. tracking now. For the orphan from China learning engineering, I'm sure the good ol govt can establish an alternate civil service to reap the investment of said 2d Lt along with a loan balance should she not honor that alternate enlistment/commitment. As for the beards, we all know our idea for beards in the military is modeled after Ramius, right? He would have looked unwise and silly if he was clean shaven and asking for a Ping.

  10. ^This is spot on, from another actual EV owner. I have a 2023 VW ID4 Pro AWD and live in Illinois. It is quick, quiet, and comfortable - now I hate driving my wife's ICE car. I have over 20,000 miles with ZERO cost beyond electricity. I drive about 30 miles per day commuting and trucking kids, and take regular 200-300 mile trips. My tips for everyone who asks: Only consider an EV if you will do 90%+ of charging at home. Invest in a Level 2 charger. Do not think of public fast chargers as "gas stations" - avoid them since they are still severely lacking in availability, reliability, and speed. I have used a fast charger about 6 times in 20,000+ miles. Don't get the biggest battery available. 200-300 mile range is way more than enough for most people. You don't need to carry around that giant battery and kill your tires. Longer trips require more planning but there are lots of tools like PlugShare and ABRP. Efficiency drops with higher speed and colder weather. Cold is due mostly to the power demand of the cabin heater, so use heated seats and steering wheel if you need to maximize range. I have not seen an impact from hot weather. If you live in a colder climate, the car warms in a few minutes (no engine to warm up). The most underrated cold weather feature is the electric windshield - melts snow and ice in seconds without any scraping!

  11. @ClearedHot I will highly recommend the Rivian R1T over the CyberTruck. I've had my 2022 launch edition for a year now, bought it used with 10k miles. The launch edition got some flak for quality of components, for example, the motor for the powered tonneau cover, which Rivian has since fixed with the Gen 2's (they fixed mine on my Gen 1 for free). I live in Oregon and off-road a lot for austere camping and it has been excellent on trails, uphill over large rocks, etc. I've been on road trips down to Napa and the range in conserve mode is accurate, about 300 miles, and that's partly on mountainous roads with a lot of elevation change. The storage in the car is great, and the gear tunnel is a nice touch. If you're looking for a bigger truck bed, it is smaller than the Cybertruck's. The company just received a massive $5B investment from Volkswagen and they are hitting similar production issues that Tesla faced early on in their existence, but I think the company will be an established player in the future once the Rivian R2's come out. If you have any questions feel free to DM! I'll also leave you with this: Do you really wana be the guy driving a Cybertruck? 😄

  14. Damn genius Gump If you could move or remission the existing Wings to easy driving distance to major domiciles, CLT-ATL-MIA-DFW-DEN-PHX, boom manning problems solved Like Bluto’s grade point average, about the same chance as happening Split the work, basic skills in one or two bases, studs get PPL INSTM and ME done there, move on two two or more bases to do the MIL flying (one training aircraft my suggestion is to move to a PC-21) and get winged. IFF for some, pre AMC, AFSOC, AFGSC, Heavy ACC for everyone else, Rotary to Mother Rucker Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. You don't sound like you're about winning, rather that you're about feeling like you're on the right side. There's a difference. If you were sincerely about winning, you'd be asking how we help Eastern Europe kick Russia's ass as completely and quickly as possible so they sue for peace and end this war. That's what winning looks like. Your can argue the correctness of a war all day, but it don't matter because you don't make that decision. Which is exactly why I'm not arguing the correctness of a war that us and all our allies are already committed to. It's worthless. I don't think the Ukraine war should have happened in the first place, and that it's Europe's problem, but here we are and the fight is already on. My opinion is OBE. Like trying to figure out why the guy punched you after the bar-fight started. It's a wasted effort until you can force both sides to pause and re-assess. If we choose to back out on supporting Ukraine now, we and the entire western world lose for sure. We also lose the trust of allies. Arguing why we're supporting them and how that all happened is completely useless, and more suited to the halls of ivy league schools in about 10 years. BREAK BREAK As someone who spent 4.5 years of my life in a "BS foreign war" I can soundly say that yes, keeping our word is worth it. Perspective is important. We kept the wolf on his side of the fence for 20 years and we built some outstanding partnerships through the blood, sweat, tears...partnerships which were largely spoiled by the horrific botching of our withdrawal from Afghanistan. Keeping promises matters. Honor matters.

  19. They need to change their constitution to allow for a military partnership necessary to achieve anything. The previous president was in no way gonna go for that. Current one probably won’t either as she follows lot of the shadow she came up in. Unfortunately too much political favor to be made opposing Trump to actual work with him even when it would be for their end benefit. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  20. I was gonna say the better comparison would be the jackasses stateside telling us that war over there wasn’t our problem and what Germany was doing wasn’t really that bad. 21. It seems primarily like her problem with serving is the Israel-Hamas conflcit... If your opposition to war is based on objections to a particular war, congratulations! You aren't a conscientious objector. Just another idiot who eats up Russian information warfare. Here's an idea - if you ever notice that the cause/belief/conspiracy you've recently decided to follow is something that would get an FSB officer promoted for spreading, reconsider your cause/belief/conspiracy. I'm also not impressed by anyone who sees what our enemies choose to do to those who cross them, and decides, "Yes, I will give those bad people a monopoly of violence against myself and my loved ones."

  22. The Aussie cardboard suicide drones are an interesting take on asymmetric warfare. https://www.forbes.com.au/covers/innovation/the-aussie-cardboard-drones-hitting-russia-in-massed-attacks/ The people that think they can take on the world with this stuff are clearly in the dark, but the idea of some SOF team able to dump 30-50 of these on a major industrial center or airfield and then vanish is pretty terrifying…. Also why we should start doing more to model REDFOR SOF in our war games because it’s going to happen. Imagine some random cargo ship with a couple connex’s of these sitting in random ports just waiting on the word to create casualties at random. Say in a random no-name place like…. Shreveport… nothing important there right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
