Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves

ANG & AFRES discussion area. Bums can search for flying opportunities with other units.

  1. Current UPT student set to graduate T-6s in near future. With fighter drops out of T-38 becoming few and far between for AD guys/gals, I was curious what options/if any exist to get picked up by ANG/AFRC unit. I have seen prior postings for units listed as “UPT” and other for “Rated only.” I am curious if any ANG/AFRC units view a soon to be UPT grad as worth investment in speeding up the hiring timeline and could pseudo fill those “rated” slots because of the more aggressive timeline? Does such a thing exist? I still have a 10 year service commitment but not sure if that could be moved to service in the guard or reserves. Thanks in advance for any and all advice! …

I'm currently Active Duty and in talks with an ANG unit, but have a question I keep getting different answer to: What length of a commitment do I incur if I transition to the ANG via Palace Front as an officer? The ANG recruiter is telling me 4 years, but that sounds high considering the payback for Palace Chase is 3x your remaining ADSC and Palace Fronting (from my understanding) is just a transition to the ANG with no commitment since I've served out my ADSC contract. For some context, I'm in a flying position and would be filling a flying position in the same aircraft/crew position that I currently fly with no additional training required. Thanks in advance…

Good evening gentlemen, I hope y'all had a good thanksgiving! 🙂 I have a question I was hoping to shoot y'all. I got back from BMT and tech school a month ago and have been loving AFE. ive met a couple of the pilots in the crossing and have started to get my face around and politely let them know that I would love to fly fighters for the squadron. I recently went up to the pilot room and met one of the hiring board pilots and he gave me some great advice of how I can make a good impression. he suggested I come up every drill after work and just talk to them, and if possible stay behind late to help clean up. I thought this was great advice and id love to hear more fr…

Howdy everyone, Just seeing if anyone had advice for contacting the 345th BS in Dyess. I would very much like to apply to their 2024/2025 UPT board, but I am having some trouble getting in touch with them to arrange a visit during their November rush weekend. I have sent several emails to no avail and having trouble with the number listed on milrecruiter. Curious if anyone else is having this issue. Apologies if this isnt the right place to post this, but I am at a bit of a loss. Thanks

Looking to see if any of the ARTs have tried to upgrade the previous $18K retention bonus with the new $30k bonus. The previous bonus was time was indef with no stipulations on time ie could be a 1 year bonus or a 5 year bonus with an option to stop/cancel the bonus at anytime.

BLUF: Is it worth completing ACSC before separating AD and going to the Guard? I'll be leaving AD for an instructor pilot ART position later this year, and I have a line number for Major. Is it worth the effort to try and knock out ACSC before I switch over? I hope to eventually get an AGR position with the unit, so I plan on being in place for a while once I get there. Is it smarter to get it done now, or wait until later? Or is it even worth completing at all at this point? As far as career aspirations, I'm not exactly motivated by obtaining a senior leadership position, and the airlines aren't really an option (RPA). Thanks for any feedback!

Saw this on Breitbart https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2024/08/14/tim-sheehy-backs-bill-prevent-national-guardsmen-being-deployed-fight-foreign-wars/ If passed which I think it would not would cause the ANG to be questioned why it is needed then as its capabilities it has would be very difficult to access Thoughts? 8. Good morning all, First off I apologize if this isn't the right forum for this but I need some advice on how to proceed with my situation. I am currently an AD O-3 with approximately 3 years of flying experience (late-to-rate), and have already been passed over for Major on the initial attempt. To make things more complicated, I am currently at PIT with my graduation date not slated till about Jan-Mar, which will have been passed the board convene date for my second look. If passed over again I will TRY and find a flying job in the civilian sector, but due to my current hours it is making it difficult for me to find a job (TBNT from United through their UMPP). I have…

Does anyone know if the ANG and/or AFRC is offering retention bonuses for TR's and DSG's under this new FY24 Experienced Aviator Retention Incentive (EARI) program?

I retired back in 2014 but many of my Squadron mates are reaching age sixty or hitting the age sixty rollback and applying for their retirement and running into long delays getting their retirement pay (mine took six months). Apparently when the ARPC implemented a new FSS system back in January there was a massive data loss with over 60k people affected. Many veterans who were already long retired and collecting a check had to resubmit their retirement packages. As a result there is a huge backlog for ARPC to close out retirement applications. As you know once you turn in your CAC card you are effectively cut off from all your digital data and are at the wh…

So I decided to start a new topic based on a discussion in the Bonus thread regarding the new technician/ART pay tables. As a 14 year technician who served as a technician from Jan 07-about three weeks ago, I’m happy progress was finally made, even if I’ll never see it. Some comments were made about TAG buy-in and such. But, the way I read it, it looks like it applies to multiple agencies (to include the Department of the AIr Force). Here’s the letter if you haven’t seen it: And the pay tables can be found here by scrolling down to tables 0759-0767. https:// https://apps.opm.gov/SpecialRates/2018/AllSRTables.aspx So, since it’s the new OPM pay table and…

  12. Greetings all. We are in the process of converting to the C-130J. We have a few part time slots available for the right people if they are interested in making the move. Current loadmasters on any airframe are preferred but we can consider taking someone off the street as well. Applicants must live locally or are actively arranging to move to the metroplex. This is a fantastic area with endless civilian employment opportunities. Lockheed is across the runway, Southwest and American are headquartered here as well. This is a great unit with plenty of interesting trips/travel. Shoot me a PM if interested.

I have some big questions about things I should do before leaving for the UPT training pipe as a reservist. I’m prior service, single no dependents. The big one is how BAH works at OTS and UPT for reservists. If I sign a lease now, will it be paid while I’m away and I’ll also receive on base housing? In my prior service as a reserves guy I remember people getting something like this I think.

  14. Thought I would spread the word on this development. A few days ago, someone on the Air Force OTS subreddit alleged A3 told them that FY25 UPT slots for the Guard were cut significantly. Then, today, the 157th FS in SC sent a memo to applicants stating that no FY24 hiring boards would be held stating: "The number of UPT class dates available to Air National Guard fighter units has been cut dramatically. The South Carolina Air National Guard currently has three individuals who have been selected to attend pilot training, and none of those three will be able to conduct training starting in Fiscal Year 2025. It would be irresponsible to conduct a hiring board in 20…

  15. "The service has also begun reviewing training for the AC-130J Ghostrider, the Air Force’s newest gunship. It’s trying to fast-track special operations flight school by sending students straight to AFSOC training units after they earn their wings on the T-6 Texan II. That cuts out the intermediate phase of flying the T-1 Jayhawk, which is heading into retirement after serving as the stepping stone to mobility and special operations aircraft. That decision can shorten pilot training time by six months, AFSOC spokesperson Lt. Col. Becky Heyse said. Around 30 airmen are expected to go straight from undergraduate pilot training to AFSOC to learn to fly the U-28…

did a search and couldn't find much, but Ive had a question ponder in my mind for a couple days. if guard pilots stay in their allotted unit for their whole career (assuming they don't transfer to another one), are they allowed to pursue an IP assignment? has anyone ever done so?

  17. Good scores (all 90s AFOQT, 99 PCSM), older duder (mid-late 20s), well liked by people, been trying to go guard with no luck and AD route is looking more appealing. Don't really give a shit what I fly at this point. PPL, anything is more exciting than a clapped out 172. Need some honest feedback. What if I don't care about queep as that's all I've known in my career working for alphabet soup agencies in the USG? What if I don't care about getting deployed? Asshole managers/supervisors have been the norm for me. Looking for some earnest pros and cons. I'd do just about anything at this point for time away from full time desk flying land under fluorescent lights til my…

  18. Started by Rated Flyer 4 Life,

My current unit is starting to be a tough situation for my family life and civilian job. My commander has given me the option to either stay or go. If I do leave, he said they will help me find a new flying unit. As a reservist, what happens in the meantime during the process of looking for a new unit? Does the old unit usually keep you on a TR status? Can I switch airframes or do most units prefer you stick with the same MDS?

The 114th Fighter Squadron is holding a hiring board in June for the F-35 training pipeline. Please submit applications to the MilRecruiter link below. Due to the number of application packages we have received and the high ops tempo that we currently have, we are putting a hold on squadron visits. We will plan on extending invites to visit the squadron after your application has been received and reviewed. If you are invited, you can plan on attending a visit during the May drill from the 3rd-5th of May. We will attempt to get invites out as soon as possible. I realize this is not ideal for planning purposes but due to TDYs and the mission this is where we are…

  23. Started by mightymighty,

I rec'd a pilot slot in March of '19 and since then I have gone through a civilian job change while waiting for training dates (I still don't have any). The reason I left my first employer was because they were not supportive and made my life hell when I told them I was going to join the Guard. I didn't fight it - and moved on to a different company. I was up front to my new employer about my military commitment as well - they were supportive - and I was hired in September '19. I stood out over my peers on the company performance measures and worked more hours then the rest of my colleagues - but the decision was made yesterday that I would be included in their com…

a little off topic question, but I've been watching some thunderbird airshows on YouTube and it got me thinking.. I believe airshow teams like the blues and tbirds are active duty only, but do the tbirds hire fighter pilots from the reserves or ANG? I did a search and according to google in the past I believe there has been only 3 ANG fighter pilots that have been selected. here's the twist. even though they were current enlisted in the guard, they all came from an AD AF background. ultimately my question is, can you still get picked up on the tbirds without any AD service? TIA, wikz.
