I am currently at PIT and planning on taking leave during the week of Christmas. Will I still get per diem while I am on leave during that time? I have asked the finance office here at RAFB and one person said I would and the another said I wouldn't. I was just looking for anyone that has dealt with the same thing. Thanks.

This was on the front page of our wonderful Nashville newspaper today.I cant' believe these yahoos actually think the government is spraying chemicals from aircraft for experiments. I thought some of you might find it interesting as well as humorous. Wednesday, 11/29/06 Jet trails just water vapor, not sprayed chemicals, experts say By ANNE PAINE Staff Writer Blue skies have been turning white this month as airplane traffic crisscrosses the sky. The trails that jets leave behind grow, creating thin, cirrus-style clouds that aviation officials say result from water vapor from engine exhausts and in the air turning to ice crystals. At least…

I know the general rule is 2-3 years at a base - less as you go become more senior. But how long should a non-rated new Lt expect to stay at a particular base? I remember hearing that between on-the-job training, ASBC and if you get out after the min 4 years you can expect it to be your first and only base. (?)

I am wondering if there is an easier and perhaps less expensive way to adopt international (or domestic) children as a military couple. My husband is a Reservist and so I don't forsee us moving overseas, but I have a growing heart for baby girls in China and orphans in Africa. Is there anyone out there with personal experience? Or can you refer me to someone?

I recently passed through Diego, and ended up staying there a couple days. Voucher finally paid, and for each succeeding day after the first, only $3.50 was paid for per diem, instead of the usual $27.50. My only beef with this is that we were not a part of the deployed AEG at all, but rather a transient crew...in fact, Camp Justice (or whatever they were calling it) is completely shut down now, the tents torn down, and no free chow hall like you get at all the other $3.50 locations. Now Diego isn't exactly expensive, but...I was certainly paying more than $3.50 on sundries, incidentals and meals on a daily basis. So, anyway, if you're paying for meals shouldn't the…

Is there a single agency that handles this for the whole US government? I had a question about security clearances (not so much AF at this point, more working for the government) and was wondering if anyone here knew someone I could call about it. Please PM me. Thanks. Feel free to delete this if you deem it inappropriate. However, many of the posts we have somehow end up showing our disdain for how the new and sensitive AF has shed the traditions of the past. Somehow, we have to begin to swing the momentum back to our favor. What are some suggestions? Realistically? I think just by people talking about it, and doing so publically in the squadron, we can drum up momentum. When folks dont say anything because someone might disagree/get offended, or there is some 0-6 in the room, we do no one any favors. In my squadron, we are pushing to bring a bar back, since it was supposedly canxed a few years ago. While that is gonna be…

Pilot candidates face cheating probe By Erik Holmes Staff writer Pilot candidates from the 80th Flying Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, are being investigated for cheating, a base spokesman said Wednesday. The number of officers under investigation, their ranks and the nature of the allegations are not yet known, said Maj. Michael Young, the base spokesman. “They just initiated an investigation,” he said, “so it is really in its infancy.” Young said the wing commander alerted the base detachment of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations to the allegations on Nov. 3. The OSI began an investigation that same day, he said. All the o…

Maybe this has been tried before, but it seems like it would be a good idea to list all the track selects and assignment nights in one thread instead of starting new ones every three weeks. Here was the breakdown at CAFB tonight for the 07-10 track select: 5 T-38s 3 T-44s 1 UH-1 13 T-1s (I think) I'm not sure how many ANG/AFRC slots were given out, so if anybody has the lowdown...please share. One of the more interesting AF press releases, and this one's long overdue! WASHINGTON - After decades of secrecy, the Air Force today acknowledged that it flew Communist-built fighters at the Tonopah Test Range northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. From 1977 through 1988, the program, known as CONSTANT PEG, saw U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marine aircrews flying against Soviet-designed MiG fighters as part of a training program where American pilots could better learn how to defeat or evade the Communist bloc's fighters of the day. Brigadier General Hawk Carlisle, 3rd Wing commander at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, is a former member of the 4477th Test and Evaluation Squa…

It's come to my attention that some think UPT students to be perfect, with only minor flaws... I know I don't fit this mold and still "somehow" to managed to make it through... What have you done in training that is true, no shit, baffonery... None of this, "I broke the wrong way," or "I made a goofed up radio call" bull shit. A true picture of, I did this and it was alright because I admited I did that, I was wrong and understand how not to let it happen again. Mine: I was told by lead to take space in the wing T-37. I chose to lag roll. I was 1000' below the MOA. I made it about 89 degrees before..."I have the controls." At first I thought, W…

Our SQ/CC told us that the CSAR-X will be announced tomorrow, and since there are a number of fellow -60 guys on here figured I'd start a thread about it. General feeling around our squadron is that it will be the -47, which has met with pretty general disapproval.

Critics say you're cuttng the wrong systems-ISR systems-to buy more fighters. "First, I can only cut personnel 8 more times like we did, before we have no AF. Second, the F-22 is the best sensor on the battlefield, bar none, including the E10, which can't get close enough to the battlefield to make a difference." When asked if the F-22 is the answer: "We are looking at how you do long range recce and strike. We are following Moore's Law to pack more density onto our assets. With Global Hawk and Predator, we have deep penetration and are getting SA in a remarkable way." Nothing like contradicting yourself in statements right after one another. Looks like …

Well I found out that I will be on Casual at Maxwell AFB for 8 months before I head off to pilot training. Can anyone tell me what there is to do around Montgomery? I lived there while my dad was in the Navy, but for only 10 months and I was in the 1st grade at the time. Is it really as bad as everyone says it is? So far the top things to do on my list are: visit old elementary school and visit old house. Thanks in advance!!

I have a lot of speeding tickets. A (civilian) security manager at an ANG fighter unit recently told me that I can obtain a TS clearance to fly Hercs, tankers, etc. but I wouldn't be able to obtain a TS to fly fighters. I was under the impression that a TS is a TS, regardless of platform. Is it true my driving record would receive more scrutiny from OPM as a fighter UPT selectee? [ 02. I know that I'm going to get chewed and spit out for this but oh well. (I did read the other 1 thread on this board about OSI) Anyone have any info on OSI for me? I've learned what I can from the internet so not much help there, unless I'm missing some sites. I've met with the only AFOSI agent in my state once but she was given a 2 week deployment notice and now is in Iraq. I've tried emailing their "info" personnel but haven't heard anything back. I'm mainly looking for selection info, what they take into account, what's most important etc. I know about the actual timeline, but not what's important and what makes someone marketable for the job. Anything you…

Couldn't find a way to integrate this into my text on UPT. Any suggestions? I particularly like that he wats to find a woman who he can go on a bike ride with. Perhaps what he actually said was that he wants a woman who likes to be ridden like a bike? Damned journalists. Cosmo UPT stud

I'm a few weeks away from receiving my UPT assignment and have found out we have the opportunity to put down a preference for our FTU location after IFF. I've been unable to find anyone at my squadron who's spent any time at the Guard FTU in Klamath Falls, and was hoping I could get some first hand information from some of the guys on this board. Is that part of Oregon a nice place to live for the 6-9 months you'll be there? How does it compare to the "Redneck Riviera" that is Panama City? Appreciate the info.
