From military.com: Link: https://www.dodbuzz.com/2009/07/30/af-wants-60-light-airlifters/?wh=wh I guess the good news is that there are going to be 60 more manned aircraft.

Would it be safe to assume that strategic cargo units have more pilots assigned due to length of missions and utilization of relief crew? I am trying to figure out if the two C-5 guard units would have more slots than a guard fighter unit. I also realize that there are two pilots per mission at least. I would take the slot if I am offered, but they sure are hangar queens. [ 18. June 2006, 19:10: Message edited by: Toro ]

Hello, I was just wondering what a CSO would maybe major in. I am currently a Senior in High School and have received an AFROTC Scholarship. A CSO interests me and I’d really just like to know more about it. Any information or personal preference would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Word is a hydraulic malfunction, crew declared an IFE, and upon landing one of the main gear collapsed and the aircraft ran off the runway. No injuries, thank God! https://www.kmbc.com/amp/article/b-2-bomber-sustains-damage-emergency-landing-whiteman-air-force-base/37599054

We've got a few T-6 pilots (AETC unit) that really like the visor shown at the link below. https://www.aquilaoptics.com/index.php?m=Home&c=Products&a=view&id=2 This visor is not currently approved for flight in AETC, and I'm trying to do our folks a solid and at least run down if there's an easy path for the powers that be at AETC to say yes without going down the AF1067 rabbit hole. Anyone here fly with this visor in ACC or elsewhere and familiar with any official safe to fly approval for them? Thanks in advance!

F-35C carrier-variant test aircraft CF-3 has made its first catapult launch today (July 27) using the land-based steam catapult at NAS Lakehurst, where the U.S. Navy's version of the JSF is undergoing carrier suitability testing. Did I miss this posted somewhere? If so, please delete. Otherwise, what is the backstory since the article doesn't say much, other than the standard loss of confidence. https://m.military.com/daily-news/2014/12/30/spangdahlem-wing-commander-relieved-of-duty.html?ESRC=airforce-a.nl

I am looking for some help on the TBAS flashcards. I understand the concept and am able to get the correct answers when it shows the direction I am heading on the compass, but when it shows it on the map like in these two images I cannot figure out what direction I am heading. Based on what I see, the top of the map is North, so the it looks I would be heading East and North in the two images respectively. However, I know this is wrong but I can't figure out why. What am I missing that shows I would be heading West and South?

Wondering if there is time on the weekends during UPT to fly my own plane? I would prefer it not sit in storage for a whole year so trying to figure out what to do with it. Also would flying General Aviation at the same time hinder training in any way?

Gents -- BRIGHT STAR (an exercise in Egypt) is coming this fall. For those that have been, how was it? what should folks expect for flying, living, off-duty, etc.? For those that are coming, what have you heard? I'm not directly involved (yet), but if you're coming out call me at 010-102-1429 (inside Egypt). I'll open the Air Force bar in Cairo for you!

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-08-14/british-pilot-artificial-arm-comes-off-during-landing-flybe/5671748 I read this and had to share. My favorite lines are "The airline confirms that at no time was the safety of its passengers or crew compromised in any way, nor was the aircraft damaged." & "...he did this, but with power still applied and possibly a gust affecting the aircraft, a normal touchdown was followed by a bounce, from which the aircraft landed heavily," the report said. When you say no one was ever in danger you mean other than the part where no one was flying on short final right? Then they blame a wind shear for the rough landing? Really?

Have you ever thought of a situation where an attack helo faces a high performance jet fighter? Today I was discussing this with another armt dawg, which we made up a scenario where a single Longbow was confronted by a Viper... I defended the idea that I would be more maneuvrable and can hide, however I would not have any weapons to hit the jet unless I am really lucky... What do you think?

Hi everyone, With the holidays coming up I thought it would be a good time to post this question for anyone who would like to buy a gift for a friend/family member that will soon be attending OTS/TFOT or UPT, or for themselves if they have friends/family asking what they would like for gifts this year and would like to suggest something that would be useful in their upcoming training. So what are some good gift ideas or things that you wished you had while at OTS or UPT that would be useful for someone who will be attending sometime in the future? Thanks, and happy holidays to all!

I've been thinking about putting a flag pole in my front lawn, and with the passing of President Ford, I've noticed that during my drive to work, some of the local stores still have the flag at half staff, and some are full staff, which got me wondering about the actual rules about flying the flag at half staff. I include the attached link for everyone's flag education. Cap-10

I would really like to get a local chapter of Women in Aviation International up and running in San Antonio (the only other WAI chapters in TX are in Dallas and Houston). To do so, we would need at least 10 WAI members in the greater SA area. Also, does anyone know of any other aviation-related websites where I'll have a chance of reaching potential members in the SA area? Thanks, VCQ

Hi there. I own a few small businesses, one of which is growing well enough to expand to a multi-location operation (a big step for us). I'm wondering if there are any other Guardsmen/Reservists here who own their own business who have either a) balanced their service obligation with running their business or b) specifically have gone through UPT while owning their business (and possibly running from afar). The expectation that was made when I was hired into my guard unit was that I will basically need to disappear off the face of the planet for 2-3 years during UPT and we're thinking about maybe hiring a general manager to run the place while I'm gone or selling out…
