Is it possible to go from the ANG as an Air Battle Manager to Active Duty Air Force? I know AD Air Force has something called the prior service program, but does it work the same for Officers also? Any recruiters or with knowledge thereof can shed light on this?

I was talking to a friend of mine who has recently completed UPT and we got to talking about how us guard guys usually take a fair amount of crap (all in good fun, as an enlisted guard person I understand this and was introduced to this in tech school) and one thing that came up was an active guy having some hard feelings toward a guard fighter guy because he “stole” his 38 spot. So this leads me to my question. I was wondering about class drops in reference to guard pilots. Lets say there is a guard fighter guy in the class so he needs a T-38 slot, does that take away from the 38 slots for the active guys or does AFPC just add another 38 slot? Also is it done this w…

  5. Is it possible? I imagine that quite a few units are bottom heavy with everyone bailing to the airlines as soon as they hit ATP mins. I'm worried about getting enough flying time when I get off seasoning days. I imagine local sorties wouldn't make much sense, but I would love to jump on a deployment since I won't be back from PIQ before my unit heads out. Also, under the new "Total Force Office Training" model, can Guard dudes go fly with a Reserve unit or even AD? Thanks!

I think the probability of acquiring the holy grail guard slot just became 69x harder. https://www.airandspaceforces.com/air-national-guard-fighter-fleet-bill/#:~:text=A minimum of 25 fighter, with at least 18 aircraft

Hey guys I've got a question for you about where a guard fighter guy should go for UPT. I know it probably doesn't matter too much in the long run, but here's my question. Currently I have dates for ENJJPT in June, but today I was told that if I want to go sooner they'll look for dates at other bases before June. Any reason why I should hold out and go to ENJJPT or should I take anything between now and June at Vance, Laughlin or Columbus? Thanks guys.......

Yep, you read that right. I have been a Guard Pilot for about 7 years and I am wanting to make a lifestyle change and transition to Active Duty. I have sent a lot of emails and made a lot of phone calls and for some reason keep hitting walls. I was told by AFPC, to paraphrase: Nah, that process doesn't exist...it might at some point, but it doesn't now. Have a nice day. Given that there is an explicit and often used process for interservice transfers, I am really surprised to find that there is not an easy way to transition from the ARC...especially with all the TFI they constantly cram down our throats. The Active Duty is in a Pilot shortage crises (as we al…

Does anyone know what the deal is with the Guard/Reserve man days? I read an article today about the tanker units in the northeast having to cancel their support of the tanker bridge over the Atlantic because they do not have man days. Our unit (AETC) has been told there are absolutely no MPA days available in the foreseeable future. This affects our part time guys who are wanting to bum with us or go fly with our active duty counterparts here in the C-130 FTU at Little Rock. It seems to be an issue across the board.

Bad week for aviation. Destruction at Sun n' Fun, the Southwest drop-top, and now Gulfstream has lost a G650 and four flight test crewmembers. Link Kent Crenshaw, Gulfstream's Chief Test Pilot, was a former CC of the 6519th Test SQ (now the 419th FLTS at Edwards), the B-2 Chief Test Pilot for Northrop Grumman, a BUFF pilot in Vietnam, and a laundry list of other quals and accomplishments. Vivan Ragusa was a former USN test pilot who flew the X-31.

GUNNER PALACE reveals the complex realities of the situation in Iraq not seen on the nightly news. Told first-hand by our troops, 'Gunner Palace' presents a thought provoking portrait of a dangerous and chaotic war that is personal, highly emotional, sometimes disturbing, surprisingly amusing ... and thoroughly fascinating. Filmmaker Michael Tucker, who lived with 2/3 Field Artillery, a.k.a. "The Gunners" for two months, captures the lives and humanity of these soldiers whose barracks are the bombed-out pleasure palace of Uday Hussein (nicknamed Gunner Palace), situated in the heart of the most volatile section of Baghdad. With total access to all operations and activi…

[Attempting to give a "second chance" to what's, IMHO, a great topic of conversation that's quite interesting. Would just wish people can keep things civil and make good, valid points. Mods, if you don't like this, that's cool, but I ask that it be given another chance to work; and if it doesn't, then oh well....we ruined it ourselves] I'd like to address the issue of how we're prosecuting our current war from two personal viewpoints: 1. As a member of the US military, and 2. As a US taxpayer; since reading the last closed thread, IMO, some people were getting this distinction blurred. As a member of the military, there may be ROE I don't personally agree with, …

I know this is a little off the aviation topic, but is anyone else's base gym getting rid of personal lockers? There is a sign up here at Malmstrom stating that due to some new AFI or other guidance, starting in Feb, all lockers will be "day use" only. What kind of crazy garbage is that? Does anyone have a decent explanation as to why we can't have a locker anymore?

  18. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2013/11/05/hagel-says-cuts-to-pay-and-benefits-are-needed.html Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel warned Tuesday that troops and their families will be asked to sacrifice on pay and benefits to preserve readiness in an era of tighter budgets. Hagel listed politically-charged changes to compensation and personnel policy as one of his top six priorities in reforming the military following the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as the department gears up to meet new challenges. "This may be the most difficult" to achieve among his six priorities, Hagel said of proposals to trim pay increases, overhaul TRICARE and review retirement benefit…

  20. https://www.militarytimes.com/article/20130507/NEWS/305070032/Hagel-Troops-workplaces-will-checked-degrading-images-women Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has ordered a close-up and comprehensive inspection of all military offices and workplaces worldwide to root out any “materials that create a degrading or offensive work environment.” The extraordinary searches will be similar to those the Air Force conducted last year and prompted officers to scour troops’ desks and cubicles in search of photos, calendars, magazines, screen-savers, computer files and other items that might be considered degrading toward women. The inspections will now target soldiers, sailors…

  21. So, there's a country starting to dissolve in our hemisphere, not far from our shores and I've been casually following the story. It's awful, it's becoming a problem spilling over its borders and starting to directly affect us vis a vis illegal immigration and becoming an ungoverned space that will become a base for illegal activities throughout the Caribbean and Americas. Do we intervene, stabilize and prevent the collapse of the state? I'm fairly cynical on the idea of nation building but I'm not for letting problems just build in our sphere and letting us be affected by them when we could prevent it. I'm not sure it's nation building we should do versus just pl…

Search function yielded no results... I'm blowing my wad (twss) and taking the whole family to the Hale Koa in Honolulu for a week this summer. Anybody stayed there before? For the first time (that I know of) they are waiving the two room limit per sponsor. I've got six rooms on the books...damn in-laws. Anyways, I'd like to take the clan to visit the USS Arizona memorial one day. I've heard there are special tours available for the AD military type. Can anybody confirm this or point me in the right direction? Also, any other advice on what to do, where to eat, which activities to book in advance, etc. would be much appreciated. Mahalo.

On the training side how much of the flying is actually done by hand as opposed to using the autopilot? Does the Tweet even have an autopilot? I am currently flying a Citation CJ2 and I'm trying to fly as many legs as possible without the AP so that I can keep up my instrument scan (as if there is one anyway in the Collins ProLine 21) for UPT.

Hey guys -- I'm pretty clueless about a lot of the GPS units available to pilots, let alone what kind of features would be specifically helpful for a military pilot. Anyone have any input? Specific things I'm looking for include: -Large, easily-readable, color screen -Battery life good enough for 4-5 hours of continuous use -Expandability -NAVAID database to include all US TACAN/VORTAC/VOR stations and airports -Ease of use in the backseat of the T-38 Any helpful input is a huge help. Thanks in advance, and Happy New Year.

  25. This event continues to grow, and is a two-day event this year. 19-20 May, in Redlands, CA... about 1 hour west of Palm Springs. This not your father's airshow: it's a beer festival, concert, with an airshow component. And there is more craft beer at AirFest than at any airshow in the US. The Canadians are bringing the CF-18 Demo Team for one of their very few US performances, including a twilight performance on Saturday evening. F-16 Demo will be there too. The civilian performers are stellar. FYI: the Sunday show is going to be different. The planes will fly, but about half of the show will not be announced. Instead, the bands will pla…
