I've done a lot of reading on the what goes on after you make it into UPT and what happens from there on. I liked how Baseops had some personal journals for people, it really gives you an idea of how the whole process works. However, I noticed that most of the journals I saw were for people doing heavies . Is there any reason for this trend? Is it just that personal character required to come onto a website and post your personal story is restricted to people who choose heavies? I believe only one of the journals was a T-38 track and it was a B-1 drop. What are the statistics on track selects and drops? If all goes well with Phase I and Phase II, are you likely to get…

I'm graduating NAV school in May, aircraft drop is tomorrow. I have two choices: 1)JSTARS to Robins 2)Slick to Peterson. I'm from SC so I'd like to be close to home, but I *think* I'd like the C-130 mission slightly more. JSTARS rarely drop at NAV school, so I really have never considered them. Are there career opportunities in the JSTARS world? If you're on a JSTARS, do you like the mission? Lastly, I'm married with one child. My wife's choice is the JSTARS since she would be close to home when I deploy. Advice? Help!

I searched for this topic but didn't find much info. Getting ready to graduate and I heard that you can get your instrument and commercial ratings by taking a written test. Is this true? How much extra work would it be to get the CFI rating? I know I probably won't use any of them much in the military, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to have them...

Looks like we'll be closing down the C-21's at Wright-Patt. It could be as soon as this Sept/Oct timeframe. It's going to be a$$holes and elbows around here for assignments! First assignment guys (like myself) will be going straight to MWS's as opposed to finishing out our 21 tours somewhere else. Scott and Andrews are staying open; I'm not sure what's happening to C-Springs??? C21Cowboy, what's going on over there? This is going to be fun MK

Both my wife and I are PCSing to Beale around Sept. What is our BAH based off of? Is it the zipcode for the base or where we choose to live? Also, anyone have ideas of the housing out there? We are planning on renting so we can get a larger house and invest some of the xtra $. Thanks.

I've used the search function, but my questions are more specific. I am curious about the backgrounds / flying hours for dudes who track select to the T-38. Specifically, do most T-38 guys have high hours (300+ or 1000+) and advanced ratings (instrument / commercial / aerobatic) before beginning UPT? I'm reading these old posts which state track select is based on 40% checkrides, 30% daily rides, 20% commander ranking, 10% test scores. So, I’m thinking if someone aces the academics and has a great commander ranking it's not enough, 70% is pure situational awareness and ability to handle the Tweet / Texan. When I read just “bust you’re a**” and make sure your #1 in…

Yes, I've used the search function, and I even read all about the rules and regulations and understand the basics. What I want to know is, has anyone here used it while deployed? It seems like a good deal at first glance, but all of the stipulations they add to it sound like a pain in the ass. How easy is it to get signed up? Have you had any hassles or pay issues, either starting or at the end of participation? And it mentions that you can take out sums greater than 10k (if your account has gotten that big) in installments. But can you also elect to withdraw it in a lump sum regardless? I'm trying to decide if I should use this while deployed or invest the…

Please forgive this IFR civvy flyer's ignorance, but given that military aircraft must be able to operate no matter how bad the weather, how come Ramstein has become the first DoD airbase to install a CAT III ILS? (Ramstein's ILS) Does the use of a PAR service at military airfields make ILS, whether CAT I, II or III, redundant? [ 04. January 2007, 22:38: Message edited by: Toro ]

Today I was browsing the web pages for a lot of Air Force bases around the world. I noticed that many (over half) of the bases were commanded by a Col. or Gen. who was a graduate of the Academy. I looked around for about 10 min trying to find just one ROTC grad that was a base commander before I found one. I was interested in this trend then went searching all of the bases I could think of and found a ratio of about 70% base commanders and wing commanders are Academy grads and about 50% of all major commands and up are Academy grads. I was wondering if anyone had and explanation. I am a new LT ROTC grad and I am trying to figure out why the semi socially challenge…

Has anyone been to Manas? I'm trying to find out what the current conditions are there. I will be heading that way at the beginning of the year and would like to get some current information. Do they have cellphones you can buy there? Do they work well? What are the rooms like? Thanks, Debbie

Final T-37 Checkrides are today at Sheppard. After this class graduates, there will be about one more month and then July 30th they will fly the last of the jets to the "Boneyard" (AMARG at DM). Large number of you all flew the Tweet, thought you'd want to know...

Bibi lays out a pretty damning case. I'd say it will be hard for President Trump to recertify the JCPOA, and once that happens, I expect things to escalate rather quickly. https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog-april-30-2018/

Greetings, my name is Andrea , and I am completing my Master's Degree in Human Resources Management with Thomas Edison State University. For my Capstone, I would like to tackle the issue of the Fighter Pilot shortage in the Air Force. My problem statement is as follows: -In this study, I will investigate the causes and proposed solutions to the fighter pilot shortage described by upper leadership versus the actual pilots themselves. What I mean when I say upper leadership, I am referring to the causes and proposed solutions that have already been publicized, mainly in the Air Force Times. This survey is completely anonymous and your input would be grea…

Question for the smart guys/gals that have come before me. I’m a T-1 IP at CBM. Currently on terminal leave for retirement til 31 May 2020. I have completed half of indoc at a major Air Line, before our class got sent home due to CoVid-19. I’m a prior C-17 guy and the functional said there could be a September training date available if I do withdraw my retirement paperwork. I know most are going to say I’m crazy for wanting to go back, but AETC is not for me. From what I remember is I would incur a 2 year ADSC for the PCS but not for the training, or is that still a thing. I already have a seniority number and the military liaison at said company stated going back act…

I finally graduated college in May at 28 years old. I wasn't able to go to college until 24 and my mentality for doing well, studying hard, everything has been a pilot slot in the Guard but also the Reserve, Active Duty and even further back up plans with the Army or Coast Guard. I've have several people tell me over the years that I should have a more open mind and not be focused on pilot slot. I should also consider other potential careers in the Air Force. Of course they brought up the you're an officer first (which is true) and that you will be flying a desk 90% of the time like every officer position in the Air Force (which is true) but I always bring up that on…

There's some good wisdom on here, and I cannot thank you folks enough for steering me on a good path thus far. Curious to know what you wish someone told you years ago. Whether it pertains to flying, Air Force, or life in general.

What the fuck is it about C model guys that makes them feel the need to put themselves in the spotlight. First there was now we have The hardest working fighter pilot in America. I mean obviously this guy is the hardest working person in America - he is a father, husband, pilot, works long hours, goes TDY, gets his masters, does EVERY FUCKING THING EVERY OTHER PILOT IN THE AIR FORCE DOES! What an absolute embarrassment to the community. Not just the C model community, not just the fighter pilot community, and not even the pilot community as a whole - but the fucking MILITARY. This shit makes me sick. Evil Eagle - do you know this dipshit?

Link Looks like the Air Force Global Hawk is being canceled in favor of retaining the U-2. This is interesting that a manned airplane is actually beating out a UAV. I wonder what this means for all the people recently hit with a GH gig but haven't PCSd yet.

Here's a question for OSSers/Airfield Management-savvy types: Once an 1801 is filed, does a record copy of that go in "the system" (I'm sure there's a better name for that, but I have no idea what it is)? In other words, does the FAA and/or ICAO equivalents ever get the full contents of the form, or just the pertinent route/speed/altitude data to generate the strip? More specifically, if the PIC block is ever filled in as anything other than "On File", does that go outside of military channels?
