How on God's green Earth can a two-star get popped for a DUI and still remain in the AF complete with a full retirement? I understand the AF has changed...but its changed less for some than for others.

Hi! So, Mildenhall might be our new home coming up this summer. Some questions to anyone who has ever been stationed there: What is base housing like? Do you get to "pick" which housing you're in? (meaning: I've heard that there are a total of three bases with housing available). Dave has seen Lakenheath housing (and liked it). His friend was stationed at Mildenhall. Thoughts/opinions? Obviously, I completely understand if Lakenheath peeps have first dibs on their housing over Mildenhall peeps. I JUST read that importing pets changed their rules (as of Jan 4th 2012!). Has anyone traveled with their pets overseas? I know the general gist of taking care of t…

So the AF is considering getting some new, light aircraft basically to fly with A-10s (eventually replacing them) during counter-terrorism missions. With all of the flak the A-10 has received (especially regarding the possibility of its retirement, only to be replaced by a multi-role fighter) do you all think having a short-term replacement is a good idea? Should we just stick with the original multi-role option? They say that if you get paid to do something you love, then you never work a day in your life. But they also say that if you throw money in the mix, it makes that 'hobby' feel more like work. When you're off the clock so to say, do you ever still feel like flying? I've heard stories of certain people getting out of the Air Force or Navy and never flying again but it seems like a lot of people enjoy the career path. I feel like I won't ever get tired of it but how has it affected you? Do you take your family flying for fun? Ever have planes on buying a small plane? Are the huge amounts of commercial pilots from the Air Force an indicator of a lack of flight time…

I just read this article in the Air Force times by two SSgts at Kirkuk. It further proves the Air Force demeans medals by giving a commendation medal to some A1C who helps clean up after a holiday party while guys who are putting their lives on the line can't get valid recognition. ------------- Integrity and awards In mid-November, an Army re-supply convoy was attacked by the enemy using an improvised explosive device. A second IED, spotted 50 feet ahead of them, left the remaining vehicles trapped in the “kill zone.” An Air Force explosive ordnance disposal team responded to clear the IED in order for a vehicle to be recovered and to allow the convoy mission to c…

Got grief from Tampa approach today for following a TCAS resolution advisory even though we had the traffic in sight. Vol 3 talks about it being "imperative" to follow any resolution advisories, but there is no must/shall wording I could find. My feeling is that we did the right thing, especially considering the RA could have been for some other airplane we might not of had in sight. (ie. we could have had eyeballs on the wrong plane) Third RA for me in 2 weeks...should be done with them for now I guess. Anyway, you guys have any thoughts? Edit...looking further 202-v3 pretty much says you have to follow an RA. The more my gears spin on this one the more I think t…

For those of you in the MAF (perhaps also the CAF), you may have noticed a significant increase in the amount of currency and continuation requirements. There are now specific requirements from AMC to perform large force exercises for airdrop units as part of currencies, among other new requirements. A lot of this stemmed from Ex Mobility Guardian in 2017 which, for those who were there know, was an absolute clown show. There were absolutely shortcomings with the C-17and C-130’s ability to integrate in a large force tactical environment. It was literally an international embarrassment. However, all of this comes at a time when we are undermanned, overworked …

@argstarted the other thread about Gunships in Desert Storm and I recommended a war stories thread because I’m sure this group has some good ones. I’ll kick it off. Decmeber 2, 2014 Nangahar, Afghanistan Flying Draco out of Bagram and a raid comes down that we’re going to support and run the stack for. We weren’t doing hits every night but by dumb luck, I’d been on a few as we rolled through the schedule. As some of you know, they’re usually a bit hectic at first when the helo lands and then it’s pretty chill as they make callouts and not much would happen so that was what I expected. We brief up, get out there, get everyone checked in and ready to go. We had 2…

So, I get the letter in the mail last week (while I'm deployed) saying that I owe the gov't money from a PCS that is 4+ years old. Any chance they waited too long to send out this request and I can totally disregard it? Is there a statute of limitations on when they can ask for this money back? I've searched the boards with no luck, and then I tried to search the DFAS website, might as well just asked to be kicked in the nuts for 30 minutes. The getting kicked in the nuts would have been more fun. Already tried everything I can think of. Would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks guys. Edit for spelling--three times. Apparently I really suck at spelling…

Anybody taking bets on whats going to get cut in the upcoming years (the possible purges due to massive DoD budget cuts)? Anyone have any ideas? My hope is reflective belts, but I have a feeling it may be A/C, flying hours and maybe even pilots.

Hello, I am very green here and am looking for advice on the topic subject everywhere I can find it. I was hoping to gain insight from those with experience in/retired from the CAF about the pro/cons of flying a single seat fighter vs. the Strike Eagle, specifically on the individual vs. crew aircaft aspect. I've been able to get small bits and pieces of opinion from people around base, but nothing polarizing for either option. I am a UPT student and realize this may be moot as needs of the air force will ultimately be the deciding factor in the assignment I receive, but if granted the opportunity to choose, I'd like to be as informed as possible. Thank you in advance for…
