  1. Hey guys, There's no doubt that the F-15 is a pretty damn cool-looking aircraft, so it's natural to want to see it keep on flying, just because it's so iconic and awesome. About a few months ago I was reading an article from god knows where, I can't remember. But it was talking about the USAF looking into to new F-15 options (which I don't think they would follow through with) and the article mentioned a few "advanced" F-15 types that could augment planes like the F-22, -35, etc., etc. Among them were a few cool-looking and neat concepts that I looked up like: -F-15SE "Silent" Eagle: a Strike Eagle with internal weapons and option for …

Alright, so I have been studying for finals all weak (dead weak) and during this time I have gone through at least 4 pens or more. None of the pens that I have used really pleased me. I want something that looks professional. So, this is kind of an off subject question, what kind of pens do some of the other cadets or even officers use that are on these forums?

  4. The forum has been particularly active lately with several of the threads talking about the same, similar or tangents of the same topic: the current version of the Air Force is broken and getting worse. Symptoms of this are being discussed: pilot retention being abysmal, anecdotes of oblivious attitudes to operational support from different nonner shops, the somewhat desperate move(s) to change conditions outside of the AF or close off opportunities outside the AF to "encourage" retention, the threat of Stop Loss being publicly (if mistakenly) discussed and the indifference expressed by previous leadership, not really rebuked by current leadership, etc... If …

I had an interview with an air national guard unit recently and I got selected for pilot. I had applied to AD Air Force prior to the interview but as you know the boards were cancelled. I will meet the AD Board this January. What happens if I get a slot. Can you transfer over? Or after you swear in is that it?

Hey guys here's my story. When I was ten I got ticketed by a fish and game cop for shooting jackrabbits with my shotgun. Then when I was fifteen, I got caught shooting a deer one day out of season and got fined by another fish and game cop. It wasn't a big deal, they fined me $150.00 and told me to go on my way. I didn't go to court or anything like that either. Basically, my dad took care of it and I forgot all about it. Anyway, here's my question. Currently, there is a background investigation going on for my UPT slot and I didn't tell anyone at my unit about this. I thought that it wouldn't matter since it was 13 years ago and that I didn't do the court thing yada yad…

  10. Going to be commissioning in a few years; I'll have a few years in already as a prior enlisted guy, but what can I expect as a new LT? How am I going to get messed with? What assumptions are people going to make of me? What are somethings I should definitely NOT do (besides make threads like this)?

Of course we all know what today is, and we have all answered the question hundreds of times as well as reflected personally on todays events 6 years ago. I dont want to turn this thread into that. I was just curious if any of you were flying CAP's or any other mission that day that could relate the experience, what it felt like being the only ones in the air, having semi-silent radio chatter (if it was). Just was curious

So I got my nice Air Force Times yesterday and as mentioned before on here, 4K over commissioned Lt's and young Capts, 11FX (Pilots) are like 1160 approx over filled, yada, yada, yada. Pilots don't need to worry though since they've put so much money into us and all that stuff. However, due to this force shaping, is palace chasing a more viable option for now guys only 20 months into their 10ADSC? Due you think AFPC is more prone to let us go? Is this something I should pre-emptivly attack by "asking the questions" or just ride it out and see what happens? I'm in a little different situation than most probably are as well. I'm an A-10 TFAPer (you know, the thing were I get…

What's something you've experienced recently from the Air Force that's been positive? Doesn't matter if it's something the Air Force officially is doing, did for you, or something good you got from it. Let's get some enlightening posts shared around here!

Anyone with AFPC or UPT assignment insight know what's going on with all the Herks dropping to T-1 classes? Can we expect it to continue throughout the fiscal year? Indefinitely? Also, seems like all the AFSOC planes are still going to Corpus, but lots of AMC and ACC Herks for the recent Toners. ?

I'm probably like everyone else here, I have a love/hate relationship with the Air Force. But I think when it comes right down to it, as an organiztion the Air Force has its self screwed tightly into the wrong hole (no sts on that, sorry). I think baseops is a pretty good representation of the officers and some enlisted who truly care about what is going with the service and the most active boards and threads are the ones where people bitch and complain about Big Blue. 90% of the time I agree with the points being made, or at least where the frustration is coming from. When I was at SOS and they brought the War College guys in for Capt/Col discussion. I will never for…

Airmen Learn Army Skills Re the new "Air Force" centric term, I vote for the C-130 term of "Howdy". That term has always brought fear and trepidation to all who hear it in the cockpit.

  20. I know some of this information is scattered around on different threads, but I was hoping to make a more comprehensive and easier to access list. If there is already a post that accomplishes this, I apologize in advance for not finding it. What is the most rewarding or fun type of mission that you fly? I know this is likely limited by air frame, but as a wannabe pilot I'd like to know more about what cool mission are out there. Whether it's close air support, aeromedical evac, or left turns for 12 hours over the sandbox I'd love to know more! If you could give an explanation with your response that would be great too. Thank you for any input!

  22. Hey all, hopefully someone has a clue regarding my question... Currently, I'm a guardsman on AD for nav school. I was a guardbum loadmaster before leaving for training, but am unsure of how good bumming will be when I get done with training. I've started to look at my options in the federal civilian sector on USAJobs. My question is, am I even eligible to apply for a civilian fed job while on AD? If I am, will they even look at my application if I'm putting my first available date isnt for a year (UNT/follow on 130 school)? Or is it possible to apply and if I'm the most qualified applicant, to get a job and just not start until I'm off AD? Anyone have any exp…

In a couple past threads, the subject of wives' opinions on their (pilot) husbands work issues was brought up. Some people (who I believe to be non-flyers) seem to think we (flyers( disregard our wives opinions; nothing could be further from the truth. I value my wife's thoughts 110% and feel that on many issues she has more rationale and insight than I do. However, I absolutely cannot stand when I hear a wife "talk shop" with regards to the details of her husbands work. Why? Because the wives are not in the squadron 12 hours a day to see the details of what goes on and experience the soap-opera BS of AF politics. All they get is what they hear second hand from thei…

  24. I was heading to Moab Utah in my lifted jeep when I got pulled over by a Utah trooper coming the other direction. He told me I was doing 82. I laughed outloud because me jeep would fall apart if I was going that speed. He didn't believe me but gave me a ticket for doing 74 in a 65. That is still BS cause I never speed in my jeep as it kills my gas mileage. I was more likely doing 62 than 82. I am still waiting for an OTS date after being selected for a pilot slot on 0505. I had two speeding tickets at that time when I was selected, those I deserved. This one I didn't. I didn't stay in Moab to protest to the judge as I need to be at work on monday. Any advise, will…

  25. Sorry, if this has been mentioned before. I did a search and nothing came up. Myself, like a good portion of people have heard the myth growing up that you need an engineering degree to become a military pilot. I know this isn't true but I didn't even though that until 5 or so years ago. Growing up I heard from enlisted personal, civilian pilots, teachers, guidance councilors, my parents, other civilians, etc. I know most pilots probably have business degrees or something. I know Robin Olds had a history degree, I believe Dan Hampton who wrote Viper Pilot had a degree in Architecture and I read a while ago about an A-10 driver who was an 0-6 during Desert Storm that …
