Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

  1. I just had a missed meal sheet turned down by finance because they said I could have had an MRE. I had the sheet signed and all of the paperwork in order. Those bastards! I tried to find the reg but couldn't. I guess if that's the case, they could just use the MRE excuse from now on. I guess a 13 hr day of flying doesn't have the same perks it used to.

  3. Los Angeles Times May 6, 2008 Pg. B10 Man Pleads Guilty To Lying About Medal By Scott Glover, Times Staff Writer A Pomona man who once boasted of being awarded the Medal of Honor pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to lying about receiving the award, the nation's top military honor. A subdued Xavier Alvarez, 50, who sits on the board of directors for the Three Valleys Municipal Water District in Claremont, admitted to violating the Stolen Valor Act, a recently enacted federal law that makes it a crime for a person to falsely claim he or she was awarded medals for service in the U.S. armed forces. Here is a question for all of you Dyess types. My wife and I are moving there soon and will be buying a house. The one we are purchasing has 1 1/2 acres of land and it is all undeveloped. There is no grass, fence, trees, or anything, it is all Texas dirt and weeds/rocks. Being from the Pacific NW I am used to alot of rain and alot of green. I am hearing that if I sod/hydro-mulch 1 1/2 acres it may all die because of failure to water. Whether it is from no rain in the summer or "water rationing" rules. My question is how successful have guys been at maintaining a nice healthy yard? How about a vegetable garden or orchard? What grows out there? Are the water table…

After graduating UPT, all the IPs started to treat newly-graduated studs differently... as in, like adults. I thought this was part of a trend towards getting just a few props for running the gauntlet, but as I progress through the schoolhouse it has become apparent that the UPT-type IP/stud mentality is the modus operandi. I'm not looking to be considered a peer with dudes who have been flying the jet for 1000 hours, but just a little credit for not being a dumbass would be nice. Rather than make this thread just about me, what are everyone elses' experiences with finally being accepted into the brotherhood as a wing/co/scheduling b*tch. How did you overcome as a…

In a recent thread I ran across someone talking about great spit flying in a miniseries called "Piece of Cake." I grabbed it off of netflix to my surprise and in fact it really is wonderful. There's some great formation stuff, as well as a Spit flying under a cobblestone bridge with about ten feet on either side. I hadn't thought there was a good flying flick that I hadn't come across. I don't want the obvious ones. I want more of the "Only Angels Have Wings," "A Guy Named Joe," and "Towards the Unknown" type films. I just discovered "The War Lover" with Steve McQueen which is a must see for you World War Two buffs. Let's hear em! Cheers! -Stuck

They should, there are more fucking Muslims in France then there are French! But as much as I hate to say it, maybe we can learn something from the French...we can start by pulling our heads out our asses when it comes to putting civil liberties blindly ahead of domestic security. It is not that I am against the former, it is just that no one seems to realize that if you are truly innocent, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to domestic surveillance targeting potential terrorists. I would gladly sacrifice a few of my personal liberties for the greater good of this country...I've already done that my entire adult life! Cheers! M2

  10. Link The ACLU is suing the Department of Corrections and warden of Wyoming State Penitentiary because Muslims are having to skip meals to pray. So they have a choice. Copy. Why should they be exempt from any rules? I'll try that if I go to prison. 'My religion says I'm not allowed to be locked up. Can I go now?' I wish I had people delivering food to me 3 times a day. I bet their rooms even have a window. I have an idea that will allow you to keep all of your rights... DONT BREAK THE DAMN LAW AND GO TO PRISON

Well the mudslinging has begun. A few AFSOC dudes who will soon be PCSing to Cannon put together a video with pictures from a recent visit. If you look at the comments on the Youtube page, the debate is already getting ugly. I heard second-hand that this video made it to a recent mayoral debate, their answer...and this is takes the cake..."If they don't like it here, let them volunteer to go to Iraq". Hey Clovis... The following is a true story that occurred Friday at my base and to me, illustrating why I believe the USAF over-relies on computers: 0700: Pull up to the gate, I hand my CAC (that's what it is now) to the SF guy and he looks it over. The bottom right portion of the card is pealing up (due to shoving it in/out of the CAC readers) and my expiration date is hard to view. SF guy says "You need to go to MPF and get a new ID card because this one is unreadable. Many cars behind me, so rather than subject others to a wait...I move out smartly. 0900: Enter MPF, only two people getting cards, so this SHOULD go quickly. I was very wrong. Getting a new CAC is an exercise in f…

  23. Anybody seen this yet? Read the link to the letter in the article. AF times article I see how the zookeeper takes care of things: “We’ve had individuals injured downtown, having had to go to an emergency room or having been victims of criminal activity,” he said. “Sometimes it could be wrong place, wrong time. Sometimes it could be a bad decision.” What sizeable American city does not have these things happening?

So just for fun (and without getting into anyone's gambling habits) whats everyone's pick for the game today? With more spygate stuff coming out this week, part of me says the Pats will come in and win by 4 scores. But I think I'd have to take the Giants to cover the 12 point spread. Either way, not flying tomorrow so its time to enjoy things tonight. When the hell are they going to move something that has reached national holiday status to Saturday night?
