Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I am in the market for a new TV now and was talking to a buddy about the LCD vs Plasma delicacy thing. I am curious if anybody has had any problems with their Plasma breaking during a PCS move. I understand they are more fragile but in my moves I never had a problem with mine breaking (to include an overseas move). It's possible I had the one decently made TV so I am seeing if anybody else has had problems with them not working post move. Thanks.

  7. Any of you work for BGI post retirement or while in the ANG/AFRC? I'm trying to get hired to a sim gig, the announcement is up for the job on their website (for the last couple of years) and I just cannot make any headway into getting the job. The bro-network is strongly on my side but it just hasn't happened. I've given some thought to Booze-Hamilton and was wondering what the peanut gallery thought. I have an income cap due to disability retirement (long story, soon) and full time would be tough. And yes, I meet all quals.

Just this past weekend my daughter lost her khaki "Air Force Soccer" cap while boating. The hat was a gift, and until you have kids, you'll never appreciate the look of dissapointment on my poor kids face when I couldn't recover the cap before it slipped deeper under the boat and to the bottom of the lake. Up to that point, I didn't realize how fond of the cap she really was. I've searched everywhere, to include google, the USAFA gift shop, ebay etc and only found a photo of the cap. As a plea for help, if any of you have a spare or know of one please let me know - I'll pay top dollar for a duplicate. Please PM me if you have a lead. Thanks in advance.

So, I think we came across a error in the new Vol 3. Can anyone verify the TAS calculations on Pg 52 and 53? I'm showing that 250 KIAS at 9000 should be around 292 KTAS (250*(1.02)^8) instead of 430 KTAS and 250 KIAS at 12,000 should be closer to 317 (250*(1.02)^12)as opposed to 490 or 500?!?. Came across this when someone called me tonight asking for help figuring decent gradients and said based on the 217 that he would have 340 KTAS at 180 indicated and 8,000 MSL. Something no smelly right.

  22. Not a lot in the media about this. The two innocent victims tragically killed during a terrorist siege at a Sydney cafe have been named as cafe manager Tori Johnson and barrister Katrina Dawson. Mr Johnson, 34, was shot dead after he heroically tried to wrestle the gun from the hostage-taker inside the Lindt cafe in Martin Place just after 2am on Tuesday morning. Ms Dawson, a 38-year-old mother of three children under 10, later died in hospital after being held hostage for more than 16 hours. She was a barrister at Eight Selborne Chambers in Sydney's Phillip Street, opposite the Lindt cafe. It comes after revelations the remaining hostages made a…

Since it’s been about ten months since the pullout from Afghanistan and the failure of wearing reflective belts and having our PT shirts tucked in to achieve total victory, has the shoe clerk moved on? Or is he/she doubling down? It would be unusual for your typical martinet to be introspective and re-evaluate his/her choice of leadership style but who knows.
