Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

In the days after 9/11 it became apparent we had problems dealing with low slow flyers. Through the years there have been several suggestions on how to deal with the issue. For a while it was even suggested the Light Attack fleet would offer a solution. Over the past few weeks there have been NUMEROUS TFR violations around the county and Live ATC has recorded many of the interactions. I listened to a few the past few days and it appears we still have issues. Without ATC we would have a very difficult time finding and in some cases maintaining contact.

Looked liked a blown tire and/or brake fire. Either way, what caught my attention was the fact that numerous people were evacuating the jet with their luggage. WTF? I'm sorry, if I'm evacuating from a jet that's on fire...I'm not stopping to grab shit. Fox News Link

Any baseball fans out there? The division series games so far have been surprising to say the least. The Cubs, Brewers, and White Sox are all choking harder than Mama Cass on a ham sandwich. It's been fun to see all the bandwagon Cubs fans on their sinking ship. Anyways here are my picks: (I know, I know. It's a little late to start a predictions thread after the 2 games, but better late than never.) Divisional Series: Rays over White Sox Angels over BoSox Dodgers over Cubs Phillies over Brewers League Championship Series Angels over Rays Dodgers over Phillies World Series: Angels over Dodgers in 6 games

I am a total space geek and have been reading up on the upcoming mission back to the moon. There is some SERIOUS turmoil in the community over the decisions that have been made. The orbital mechanics are VERY different and is many ways, more risky mainly because the ARTEMIS does not have enough thrust (Delta V), to conduct the mission the same way as Apollo using a low lunar orbit. Instead, they will use a near-rectilinear halo orbit (NHRO), which means there will be long periods that if something happens on the surface, they will have to wait for the return vehicle to come back in range. Apollo Flight Plans ARTEMIS Flight Plans N…

This ought to stir things up in the FAA for a while... (Article from 7 Mar NY Times): Commercial Drones Are Completely Legal, a Federal Judge Ruled March 6, 2014 // 06:51 PM EST For the moment, commercial drones are, unequivocally, legal in American skies after a federal judge has ruled that the Federal Aviation Administration has not made any legally binding rules against it. The judge dismissed the FAA’s case against Raphael Pirker, the first (and only) person the agency has tried to fine for flying a drone commercially. The agency has repeatedly claimed that flying a drone for commercial purposes is illegal and has said that there’s “no gray ar…

Story is that the guy left some fishing bait in the plane...and a bear 'found' it. Not only do I love the duct tape job, but he still had the presence in mind to write his N number with a pen...you know...for legal sh*t and all that.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/01/30/president-obama-announces-more-key-administration-posts President Obama nominated Miranda Ballentine for the position of Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Logistics. She is currently employed as the Director for Sustainability, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Facilities for Wal-Mart since 2008. The title is a probably too harsh, as she likely had some good environmental programs and efforts while at Wal-Mart. Of course, since we're talking about Wal-Mart, saying you improved their sustainability is like saying you reduced the number of food-poisoning incidents at Golden…

He gets kicked of an American Airlines flight and turns it into a rant about the flight crew... https://simply-showbiz.com/blog/archives/14322 Apparently Mr Prima Donna was asked to turn off his phone and he did not comply...according to Baldwin's camp he simply took a little too long to turn off the phone and was subsequently kicked off the plane which led to him tweeting the following: "Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving." "Last flight w American. Where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950's find jobs as flight attendants." The real story is a bit more revealing..."…

Saw this on DrudgeReport. Pretty awesome stuff that the Brits have revealed publicly. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1811 Fair Use Excerpt: New technology that can make tanks invisible has been unveiled by the Ministry of Defence. In secret trials last week, the Army said it had made a vehicle completely disappear and predicted that an invisible tank would be ready for service by 2012. The new technology uses cameras and projectors to beam images of the surrounding landscape onto a tank.

(Being a pilot first, I'm kind of embarrassed to ask this question but...) I have to make a presentation next month at my MAJCOM for a project that I actually believe in and helped get off the ground. This project has awesome potential to save them hundreds of millions a year (not exaggerating for OPR purposes) without just pawning off all of the work and complexity on my fellow aircrew or really even support agencies. This concept is more a combination of a culture shift and integration of commercially available technology. I believe this presentation is the perfect opportunity to make an impression. By doing so, we can avoid months, possibly years of SSS and paperw…

A couple of days ago we lost Hervey Stockman. Sixty-eight missions flying Mustangs during WWII, one of the first handful of U-2 pilots including the very first flight over the Soviet Union, and later six years as a POW after his Phantom was lost over Vietnam. Salute, Colonel! From the POW Network website (who I'd guess won't mind being quoted...)
