Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Dragon 1 Flight - 2 Dragon (Ship) Mission Checkrides Studs: Daenerys/Drogon & Jon/Rhaegal Daenerys - Q-1E (On altitude and shacked airspeed with great all around SA. Amazing lead.) Jon Snow - Q-3 (Worst wingman ever & horrible SA. Always out of position. No BDA checks attempted. Inconsistent support for lead during flight. Broke formation to roll in on Night King. Did not perform lost wingman procedure, which resulted in mid-air dragon collision.)

So the memo is out, 40,000 Airmen assigned to and under OPCON of the AFDW are banned from consuming alcohol for 48 hours surrounding the inauguration. Air Force civilians are strongly encouraged to adopt the policy as well. All of the promises from Fingers made to look like a steaming pile of poo in one moronic action.

Anybody watching this new series on HBO? It's being referred to as Band of Brothers meets the Iraq war. Not sure it will be as good but I watched the first episode last week. The Sergeant Major reminded me of a lot of the bitching from the Deid thread, yelling at people to tuck in their shirts while turning wrenches on a Humvee in the middle of the desert. Does that mentality really make its way into even the Marine Corp? Anyways, seems like it will be interesting and HBO usually comes up with some pretty good mini-series.

A shot up B-17 gets escorted by a German to the coast and they meet years later. The article was a good read, and I suspect the book would be too. https://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/wings_of_an_angel_m7W8NXNsFsgsqcf5YKPGzO/1

Not so much a news story as a interesting (gross) picture of the kind of guy who always seems to sit next to me on planes. It brings up the debate over charging obese passengers extra. Personally I think this dude should be put in the cargo hold, but that's just me. Should obese fliers pay more? MSNBC video on the subject

Might be travelling through Spain TDY in the near future and was looking at getting from Rota to Morroco via rental car/ferry. Anyone done this before? Seems like it should be pretty easy and staight forward. Does this require a civ passport or can this day trip be done with NATO orders and a military ID?

So I'm gonna be goin to the fuge in the not so distant future for t-38s at holloman. I've heard the -117 pilots used to be pretty cool as far as showin you around the jets and whatever else once you're done with the fuge. Is there anything like this still goin on out there now with the -22s? Just wonderin if there's anything really cool we can do while we're out there besides getting our faces mushed in, in the fuge and besides stayin at the camino....

Whoever said that Fairfield wasn't straight up gangsta?? The funny thing is that we drive through some of those streets on our way back to the base from Chipotle. If you're ever in the area on a RON, remember that Fairfield south of Air Base Parkway is not where you should be after the sun goes down! Ref:

All, young Lt currently considering which online school to acquire my non-mandatory (mandatory) masters degree from. I'm sure plenty of you have good opinions on programs out there. I already have two business degrees, and I'm not necessarily committed to one type of program (just no engineering obviously). Gratsi

I don't think there is a thread like this...I searched but to no avail. I thought it would be cool to post good flying stories we come across here (or post your own). Anyway here is one from AF Times https://www.airforcet...vietnam-122611/ Best line ever: “We took off in jeans and cowboy boots without much else on us,” he said.

Ever since I have gotten out, I miss getting my daily dose of what is going on in the world (from a military intel standpoint). Does anybody out there know of or use any good intel sites (obviously unclass)? I still have access to Earlybird...which is just basically news clippings and I use sinodefence.com to keep up on Red China. FAS isn't bad, just a little biased.

I realize we don't want this to become an ad forum, but the Baseops CINC gave me the thumbs up on this one. Two buds opened a logo/embroidery shop 2 years ago and they do great work at great prices, and are not busy enough in this economy. They can provide great work on squadron hats, jackets, softball shirts, luggage tags, etc. They have any color thread and any color ball cap combo. The prices and service are hard to pass up. [They don't do patches, but they sew just about anyting else (and print t-shirts, too)]. The websites are JustSew and Mary Lou's Monogramming
