How common is it for squadrons to have Friday patches? Is this a thing of the past, or is the "tradition" carried on still today? Our sq currently does not have anything of the sort, but I'd like to get something started. I know it's not supposed to be "official", so how does one go about "unofficially" getting the ball rolling on such a visible issue? Anyone ever faced the same issues? Does your sq have a friday patch? If so, is it recognized by leadership? Do you wear it out of the sq, off base, etc.? Many thanks!

Oh yeah it's that time of year again... what fun times it is to live in Tornado Alley. Had a tornado touch down about 2 miles directly south of my house last night. Typically when the sirens go off we head for the basement. Well we had a bunch of friends over that day/evening and had been drinking since noon... Take a bunch of rowdy people + alcohol+confirmed tornado nearby = bunch of drunks out in the front yard scanning the skies. These pics are from a nearby farm that got hit. No damage to this guy's house but all of his five of his out buildings were destroyed (one was only 40 feet from his home). No deaths were reported thankfully.

So the memo is out, 40,000 Airmen assigned to and under OPCON of the AFDW are banned from consuming alcohol for 48 hours surrounding the inauguration. Air Force civilians are strongly encouraged to adopt the policy as well. All of the promises from Fingers made to look like a steaming pile of poo in one moronic action.

Anybody watching this new series on HBO? It's being referred to as Band of Brothers meets the Iraq war. Not sure it will be as good but I watched the first episode last week. The Sergeant Major reminded me of a lot of the bitching from the Deid thread, yelling at people to tuck in their shirts while turning wrenches on a Humvee in the middle of the desert. Does that mentality really make its way into even the Marine Corp? Anyways, seems like it will be interesting and HBO usually comes up with some pretty good mini-series.

Personally I think this dude should be put in the cargo hold, but that's just me. Should obese fliers pay more? MSNBC video on the subject

Might be travelling through Spain TDY in the near future and was looking at getting from Rota to Morroco via rental car/ferry. Anyone done this before? Seems like it should be pretty easy and staight forward. Does this require a civ passport or can this day trip be done with NATO orders and a military ID?

So I'm gonna be goin to the fuge in the not so distant future for t-38s at holloman. I've heard the -117 pilots used to be pretty cool as far as showin you around the jets and whatever else once you're done with the fuge. Is there anything like this still goin on out there now with the -22s? Just wonderin if there's anything really cool we can do while we're out there besides getting our faces mushed in, in the fuge and besides stayin at the camino....

Whoever said that Fairfield wasn't straight up gangsta?? The funny thing is that we drive through some of those streets on our way back to the base from Chipotle. Ever since I have gotten out, I miss getting my daily dose of what is going on in the world (from a military intel standpoint). Does anybody out there know of or use any good intel sites (obviously unclass)? I still have access to Earlybird...which is just basically news clippings and I use sinodefence.com to keep up on Red China. FAS isn't bad, just a little biased.
