Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Horrible accident, absolute terrible odds. Miles of beach and this jogger gets killed by a dead-stick kit-plane whose windshield is obscured by oil. Beach jogger killed by plane likely never heard it

This is hilarious, my wife is crushed by the news; but I am laughing my ass off! Latin singer Ricky Martin says he is gay What's great for us guys is that when a hot woman announces she's a lesbo, it's totally cool! For example: I don't care if Ellen nailed it before me, I still would!

Alright, take two. Guess I should step it up a little bit and find a more mature topic to discuss than what Doug Masters likes to do in his "off time". Well, here's what I'd like to know more about, and the perfect forum of people to discuss it with, at that. I'm quite the fan of the "fighter pilot attitude", as I figure it. Pieced together from various places, books, movies, and forum posts, and mixed in with a hell of a lot of my own attitude and experiences, I've ended up imagining what I think is the greatest "attitude" of anyone that really wants to get sh*t done. Not so much "checking off my to-do list", than being accomplished in life and feeling like the king o…

Apparently the Army is looking to relocate the Pentagon to western Kansas. "The move will take place in three primary phases," said Johnson. "Initially we will use a giant crane to lift the building onto a barge in the Potomac River. From there we will float the barge down the Atlantic Coast and into the Gulf of Mexico. Then, we will sail the Pentagon up the Mississippi River to just south of St. Louis. In the final stage, we will place the building on large flat-bed trucks and drive it the rest of the way." "We have sought the advice of the Navy and determined that we can just treat the building like a big ship as we move. All of the employees will basically be exp…

Distinguished Baseops community, Wanted to post a "Get the word out" thread for not only these two individuals, but for anyone in the future who wanted to help Military members running for office. There was that one "Guest for Congress?" (not me) thread from a while back, but that was about that guy in particular. This is intended to be one in general for people running to help spread the word, potentially get advice, and anything else that may help them in their goal to continue to serve our nation, now as an elected official. I think we can all agree that if Congress had more members who wore a uniform at some point, our country would be better off. I know these …

I have been following the "poser" thread. While it has been interesting, I thought I would try and balance that with the story of a real hero: Mike Monsoor, Navy Seal, MOH, Silver Star, Bronze Star, purple heart. https://www.navyseals.com/michael-monsoor Excerpt from the citation: Navy Narrative: “On 29 September (2006), Monsoor was part of a sniper overwatch security position in eastern Ramadi, Iraq, with three other SEALs and eight Iraqi soldiers. They were providing overwatch security while joint and combined forces were conducting missions in the area. Ramadi had been a violent and intense area for a very strong and aggressive insurgency for some time. All…

I just had my AFSC drop and although I received 38F1 (Force Support Officer ), I have a lot of bases to choose from. There are very few bases that I can't be assigned to, so with that what are the best bases for a single Lt to be assigned to? Not that it matters what I request anyways... I was thinking in this order: Hickam (long shot?) Vandenburg Travis Charleston Aviono Incirlik

So there was an aircraft that struck a light pole while taxiing. Here's how we are going to fix it. Rant: Tell me again how this will determine who's going to have another taxi incident? Instead of beating up all the guys that aren't dinging wings. How bout we focus on flying again instead of all the ancillary bs.

Was going through the news the other day and saw this. Not only no more lard for the monument climb, but the superintendent is thinking of dumping it altogether because of "unnecessary injury risk" and thinks that it will eventually "not be very interesting." Eventually we'll all be filling out hurt feelings reports, and maybe allowed to have some cookies and milk (although that may be a choking hazard) after flying our most recent sortie on Microsoft Flight Simulator. I'm sick and tired of the war against traditions in the name of PC or "safety" issues. I suppose I'm not the only one out there though...it's just not the same AF (or military, for that matter) I had rea…

I got into the hobby of home brewing beer over the last year and would like to keep it going after relocating this year. I'm heading off toward the end of this summer for my first training base and wondered if anyone has ever had experience with someone in their squadron brewing beer. I'm hoping to make it into something that I can do with my class and maintain as a weekend hobby/stress reliever.
