Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I have a friend with a small but successful high tech company that builds computer hardware. They want to hire a former military person that has an engineering degree (obtained before or after their Service... doesn't matter). I think they are not pleased with their current prospects right out of college, and want someone mature that can deal with life. Where can employers go to advertise for such non-flying tech jobs? I'll pass on any suggestions. Thanks.

Currently I am waiting to go to OTS and just a little confused about how a CCW works in the military as well as for my civilian spouse. Do I keep my current state of residency and not have to register for a new one moving to different states? Or do I have to register it at every state that I move to? Also how it works having one on base. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Everyone needs raise a glass for ClearedHot, who is celebrating a major milestone in his career today! Those who know him know what I am talking about, and the rest of you will just have to take my word for it; but it is a substantial achievement for any Air Force officer and I can think of no one more worthy than CH! CH, I wish I could have been there to celebrate with you, but my schedule just wouldn’t allow it. But I will toast your accomplishment this evening in line with Air Force traditions! Cheers! M2

For you Contracting experts: 1. What's the max you can put on a GPC? It was $2500, but I heard it went up to $5000. True? 2. If the AF wants to go sole-source on a contract without competing it, what's the most they can spend? I"m assuming it's the same as the GPC card limit ($2500 or $5000).

Did a search, couldn't find anything on this topic. Anyone know of a good place to obtain a control stick? The idea is to make it into a tap handle for our kegerator. Saw one from a MiG-21 and F-4 on ebay, just curious if there was a surplus store somewhere on the net worth checking into.

All right gents. I've got a three year old boy and his momma wants to hang (hanging model style)a cool airplane in his room. She wants it to be a cool biplane or otherwise early days of aviation rendition. She's pretty savvy in shopping matters but has met with no luck. I told her a SPAD XIII or a P-51 would pretty much be the true ticket of coolness and she agrees. However, we have not been able to find what we're looking for. Now, let me make myself clear. I don't want no half ass lookin' POS hangin from my boy's ceiling. I want a metal airplane model, true to specs (within reason) doing its thing in la la land. In other words, I want that s..t to look cool. …

@Zero I’ve been meaning to ask what became of The Crate. I learned quite a bit from your stories and drawings back in my cadet days - the Sandy upgrade ones were some of my favorites.

So I've been crossfitting for about 8 months off and on and now 3 months regularly. It got some press in the AF Times and I hear they even gave CF sessions at the Deid now. So who else does it and what do you think?

From CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/03/03...lane/index.html Another second or two, the result could have been catastrophic. Does anyone have any good stories of being a PAX on a commercial flight that looked like this?

So we need a new thread for the general discussion of the state of the culture or why things are the way they are or whatever… Good articulation of why things get more y as we get more money, technology and an easier lifestyle Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Looking to see if there is any interest in a group order for a custom USAF Pilot Bremont watch. I figure this would appeal to a wide crowd and not just limit it to a specific squadron or airframe. They have been making making custom watches for all the services and squadrons. They just recently made one for Naval Flight Surgeons. I was thinking if they made one similar to this one but with Air Force pilot wings and different colors to compliment it. Below are some details of the program from a Bremont rep. Looks like we would need a minimum of 15 orders. Any interest or inputs to make it better? https://www.facebook.com/BremontMilitary I can't get the scre…

  19. As you may know the bulk of D-Day activity started 70 years ago today, 6 June 1944. However, the first 'element' of the invasion sailed not on 6 June but actually on 4 June. The element was composed of 4 miniature submarines that sailed at dark from England. Their mission was to approach the Normandy beaches and sit offshore, occasionally raising their periscopes to recon the proposed landing area. With over 7,000 ships, boats and other surface craft ready to embark there was the obvious concern to keep the advantage of surprise. The next duty of the mini subs was to surface at a prearranged time and shine a west pointing beacon so those 7,000 vessels would have som…

I had stated in a previous topic that I am relocating to the DFW area. Most of you guys on here have been to quite a few places, so I was hoping for some drops on good places to check out to live (throw in some good boobie tassle locations as well if you dont mind) Im looking to stay as close as I can to the Carswell JRB as I am going to hangin around the 457th on a regular basis. DFW Good place to be? yes? no? I'd like to know what to expect besides horrible traffic and lots of (insert explicitive here) longhorn fans..... Thanks Gents Cheers -summers

I am shocked and saddened to report our friend and longtime forum member Danger41 passed away yesterday after a freak accident. Many of us knew him in real life and it would be an understatement to say he was an American hero. He was an incredible pilot, officer, mentor, weapons officer and a friend to all. More importantly, he was a dedicated husband and father. I had the honor of mentoring him throughout his career and was with him at Nellis the night he put his patch on...there are not enough words to describe how good of a person he was. This is an absolute gut punch and a reminder that every day is a gift, never miss a chance to tell a friend or family…

Just from knowing the moral character of most of the bros, and especially those who make rank, I figured the guy probably did it. Of course I don't know, nor was I on the jury so that doesn't really matter. But after hearing a rumor of this guy looking over a stall to see some chick pi…
