Anyone out there (AD/Reserve/ANG) know of bases that have a CATM facility? Not sure if they are called that all over the AF but the shooting range I went to at Field Training at Tyndall was called CATM. The reason I ask is that I would like to see if a Security Forces squadron would be willing to host an M9 familiarization for cadets from our detachment. Are these facilities only located at AETC bases? If so I am SOL, FE Warren, Peterson, and Buckley (all AF Space Command) are the only bases around here. [ 29. I'm currently an AS200 and plan on staying as a 700 because some extra classes would require me to stay in college for another year. My GPA has also taken a big hit this semester as well. I was wondering if people who stay a year long are categorized and given their assignments with the FY11 people or FY10?

Does anyone know how the supplemental board works and has anyone on here been picked up from it? I competed in the Feb board and wasn't selected and I'm hoping to get either pilot or rpa.

So after a quick search I came up with very little about ROTC orientation or what my future det is calling "Cross into the Blue" ours is two days long from 8:00 to 4:00 and I'm curious about what we are gonna do those two days. I guess I'm just excited and don't want to wait another month to find out. I want to be ahead of the curve and start out on the right foot, so maybe some tips on what will be expected of us the first two days wouldn't hurt either.

Seeing how fast the last new cadet thread got off topic, I thought I would post a general request for any sage advice or comments some of you experienced types could offer, I've been following this forum for quite a while and have always appreciated the perspective of those who have BTDT. I'd really appreciate some perspective on ROTC program and what is and isn't really applicable to life in the real AF. I'm interested in competing for a pilot slot if all the medical requirements line up but definately understand the real chance of it not working out so any comments on interesting nonrated career fields I should look into would be welcome. If you have anything to offer t…

  8. First and foremost thanks for reading, I’m currently enlisted in the af. One year mark is coming up in August, I signed a four year contract and haven’t been able to start college yet (different story). I’ve been saving up for my ppl and doing research on Rotc vs guard/reserve. I want to fly tankers, or any heavy jet to be fair. Im 20, I’m a little stressed about what I should be doing now up until I’m in Rotc. I’m worried Rotc won’t be the best way to get a pilot slot. I’ve been considering calling the detachment but I’m not sure what to ask. By the time I’m in Rotc I’ll be 24 (unless I get accepted into a scholarship program). This is a very hard goal I’m shooting…

I am looking into joining AFROTC in the fall; however, since I will be a crosstown student and I will have the option of deciding between USC (Detachment 060) and LMU (Detachment 040). I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to pick the most suitable detachment?

Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read and answer. Sorry if this topic has been covered, I have been lurking and reading, searching, and talked with my local Det and stumbled upon this question. I was AD Enlisted Mar2003-Mar2005 at which point I force shaped. I am about to finish my Associates at the community college under the impression that there was a 2 year program for ROTC. I visited my Det and after reading the forums as well as a few other places I have decided to stretch my education out a little bit to hit the 3 year mark in ROTC. My original plan was to do my first year as100+200 doubled up on non-scholarship while I took a couple of upper grad …

Any ROTC cadets out there: Has the AF put out info on what the process is to gain your reserve commission in the event you take them up on their recent offer to not go the Regular active duty route? I am anticipating that after graduation in May there will probably be some ex-cadets looking to rush various guard/reserve units in the hopes of having a shot at flying training or at least a career of some sort with the ARC.

I'm just curious how many of you guys commissioning here shortly are prior service, and what you thought of ROTC. I've done 5 years Active Army and am going back into AFROTC (I did one year, way back when). When I hear of kids saying ROTC was basically gay or worthless I cannot help but be stoked to go back! hah I say kids, I'm only 23 but two years deployed kind of changes you perspectives.

Does anyone know how the seats in tfot work? I was talking with an AD recruiter and he said that tfot is booked into 2020. What I want to know is tfot as a whole booked that far or do the seats for Guard/reserve fall under a different projected schedule so to speak? For instance, in each class is so many seats reserved for AD and so many for Guard/reserve

  15. Hey guys so im 17 years old and I've always wanted to be a fighter pilot, ive been doing my research and i had a plan layed out but im no too sure about it; pretty much i want to devise a solid plan that will maximize my chances of getting a pilot slot. Heres my plan -first join the reserves to help with school and to set me apart from the other cadets in my future detachment,(will this be a problem with rotc involvement?)(and should i do this/will it hurt me more than help?) -once im done with basic and tech, im obviously going to university but heres my problem, and it ties in with my whole reserves plan because of location ( will attending a crosstown university hur…

I went to ERAU were i was on honor roll all year, but didnt like the flight program. Im now down at asu east still doing a flight major. Will this look bad on my application? And does the guard unit like it if you have a masters? Thanks "Aviators are optimistic by nature" George

  19. I'm in in college and thinking of joining the California Air National Guard to help pay for college since I'm too old to get AF-ROTC scholarships (I'm 32). My plan is to do AF-ROTC and Air Guard at the same time. I was told some AF-ROTC dtachments take the Air Guard's 422/IMR in place of DoDMerb medical exam and I want to get the opinion of those who's detachments allowed them to do this. Was it difficult to get your detachment to take 422/IMR? Another side of this is that I have read countless stories of awesome cadets being DQ'd over absolutely nothing and I figure 422/IMR would help me avoid being DQ'd.

  20. Started by Catman,

I'm an ANG guy of almost 8 years (mostly DSG, now Title 32) and I've accumulated a lot of retirement points, but not quite the 1460 points that the O-1E pay-grade requires. Not trying to count my chickens before they hatch, but I have been trying to figure out what I can do to squeeze those last points out before commissioning. Does anyone know if OTS itself contributes to those points? In my mind, it should, since it is my understanding you are paid at an enlisted pay while training. Also, if anyone with ANG/AFRC experience has figured out any tricks to getting more points, I'd love to hear them!

Word around town is the upcoming February rated boards will be cutting pilot slots by about 140 and apparently there will be no Pilot/CSO options for the upcoming September supplemental boards, just ABM/RPA. Can anyone confirm?

  22. Apparently there was a very high selection rate for cadets going to Field Training this year (~92% at my detachment), is it possible that there will be a similar occurrence for rated/pilot slots as well?

Hi everyone, This semester I'm in charge of fundraising...and our cadet fund is running rather low, so I'm looking to bring in as much money as possible. I was hoping some members here might have held the same position at one point or have at least been involved in fundraising in the past, and could give me some ideas on what has worked well and what hasn't. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Nathan
