Correct, Wilsbach’s standards push in ACC was well before Trump was even elected and 99% of people even heard of Hegseth.

Keep in mind you'll need 250 hrs for a commercial, which is going to cost a shitload, especially in Hawaii. Additional hours may be required for a specific company’s mins. I would go down this road only if professional flying outside the AF is a desirable career. Doing all of that just to boost your ANG app or UPT performance (I watched CFIs do great and horribly in UPT) is not a great reason by itself. Definitely get your PPL and continue to learn, just make sure you only go into a shitload of flight training debt for logical reasons.

Funny thing was that crap was already in the colon ready to shit on the troops before the administration change. They have lost sight of the forest for the trees. Yet can’t figure out why we keep doing dumb things with airplanes….that mess we all knew was coming 6-9 years ago when it was proposed. I’ll just take comfort in my 214 blanket knowing that it doesn’t matter to me anymore… but then who would have listened then anyway?

certainly one way to describe boot-height regs and open-ranks inspections

IMHO If you have the funds, go CFII until you have ATP minimums and then try to get on board at an airline. You can get paid as a CFII (not much money but plenty of hours and knowledge gained from instructing new pilots) while waiting for a regional or mainline company to higher you. Continue to apply for the USAF during the process of becoming a professional pilot. The few CFIIs I knew did a little better at UPT and the regionals (RIP Compass).

what's up y'all! I am in the process of getting my PPL and I absolutely love flying, and will be continuing after I finish college; however, I am stuck between the two options listed above in the title. Ive heard so many different stories of how having time before going to UPT is good because you have a good idea of how to do things, or how it can also be bad due to unlearning civilian flying habits. it seems to me like most of our guys at the 199th FS had time before going to UPT such as Skywest, HA pilot, CFI, charter airline, and I definitely think i'm gonna jump on that train. I understand that Uncle Sam would be paying for those ratings and it would be a waste of money, but I want to ensure I comeback to the squadron if I ever got picked up by these guys. I don't really care about how much hours I'll accrue, but rather which skills will transfer over to UPT more. if I trained students as a CFI/CFII, I feel like VFR and IFR flying will be engrained in my head which I think will be good? However, I will mainly be teaching and not flying meaning I could possibly lose the flying hands? I also think CFI flying will look better on a resume then charter/cargo flying. On the other hand, I have buddies who are also trying to fly for the 199th that fly for kamaka air (the charter/cargo airline im talking about) who said they would vouch for me if I ever tried to fly for them. It probably would be an easier way to gain hours, and I would actually be flying, however, its less focused on maneuvers, etc. I would appreciate any thoughts you guys have! Thanks in advance!🤙

Probably not in this case. Likely the flight lead's local callsign. Possibly bought at an LPA sponsored callsign auction after upgrade/joining the unit.

Weird flex to advocate for taking religious beliefs into account for job retention. Seems like there's something written somewhere about that... Also https://justthenews.com/government/security/pentagon-says-female-military-recruitment-all-service-branches-report

You might listen then pass judgement, the dude Hegseth is not just supporting but REPOSTING, openly professes women should be barred from service...not just combat service, but military service. Would you think differently if the Secretary of the treasury was posting content that said black people should not get government backed loans? When a senate confirmed cabinet secretary start posting content suggesting we discriminate based on race, gender or ideology then it is not a matter of me disagreeing with a belief. Concur, but that isn't happening and until it does, voicing opinions like that while sitting in office, particularly an office that has the power to impose discriminating policies is lunacy. I don't think they are all crazy, but most of them are. I don't expect them to all have the "right" answer. We are a country founded on a vision of long debate and I support that debate in the right context. That being said, it is wrong for the sitting SECDEF to try and turn the clock back 77 years and discriminate against women because of his religious beliefs. I don't think they are either, but this is a very slippery slope the GOP is on. The overturned Roe v Wade, the gay rights/ gay marriage case is back before SCOTUS and you know the homophobic far-right is salivating to end gay marriage. What is next? The Jews? Apples to oranges...RFK and Johnson are loons, but what they said/did was not illegal. Hegseth's actions were clearly illegal. What would have happened to any one of us lowly people had we put classified info on Signal? I'd rather settle on accountability culture. Break the law, be punished like everyone else. Advocate for bias or discrimination while in an office of power...resign.

ooof that is a bad day. The canopy fracturing system in the T-6 is gnarly

For this? Why? Because you don't like his beliefs? I don't agree with them either, though I haven't taken the time to listen to the complete interview. I'd rather we just close off the pipeline of unfiltered reactions to every stimulus in the world. Our leaders should not have social media. We shouldn't know what they think about everything. You guys are acting like you still haven't figured it out. They're all crazy. They're all idiots. If you expect these people (or any people) to have the right views and the right ideas and the right responses and the right actions to every possible situation, then every single one will be a let down. Vote for what matters *now.* Women are not going to be forcibly impregnated and kicked out of the workplace, losing their suffrage in the process. The signal thing was bad. 100% understand calling for removal for that. I don't think RFK Jr should be removed for thinking he has a worm in his brain, nor do I think Hank Johnson should be removed for thinking Guam could flip over. I don't think they should be voted for, but that's not the same as calling for their resignation. Cancel Culture indeed.
-
Completely unsat. The Signal crap should have been enough but this is WAY over the line. And before my fellow GOPers get your panties in a wad, we wanted Swalwell to resign after falling into the Fang Fang honey trap. And, recall the statements the right made when Obama associated with Reverend Wright and all of his nonsense. If we say everyone should be held to the same standard, lets do it. Hegseth should resign.

For Pete's sake, STFU Hesgeth. At least fake it that women are more than a baby factory. https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/christian-disgusting-people-appalled-secretary-204134067.html I swear, this dude must step on his dick daily.

Yeah, every major city in Texas is Democratic-run, and such buffoonery can be expected. During this event, 906 "weapons" were collected including 16 pellet guns, 14 gun parts, 3 toy guns and at least one stolen firearm. The program cost $127,000, to include $27,333 to pay 51 police officers working the event, exceeding its original $100,000 budget. All collected "firearms" were destroyed, which was not surprising. The SAPD has a huge weapons locker of recovered firearms it plans to destroy. I was offered a tour, but declined. However, Texas isn't as blue as you may assume. Since 1994, no Democrat has won a statewide office in Texas, marking the longest such streak in the US; and has not voted Democratic in a presidential election since 1976! By the way, Brandon Herrera is running for Congress again in Texas' 23rd Congressional District (stretches from western San Antonio all the way to El Paso covering a vast portion of southwest Texas, and runs along much of the U.S.-Mexico border north of the Rio Grande) aiming to challenge incumbent Rep. Ernest Anthony "Tony" Gonzales II in the Republican primary. Herrera nearly defeated Gonzales in the 2024 GOP runoff, losing by just 400 votes. His campaign this cycle is once again positioning him to the right of Gonzales, emphasizing his strong Second Amendment stance and opposition to federal overreach. The GOP primary is shaping up to be a contentious rematch with a third candidate, Susan Storey , also entering the race. Rubio is a rancher from Cotulla, a seventh-generation Texan and a mother and grandmother with deep roots in the district. She's pledged $350,000 of her own money to fund her campaign and is aiming to appeal to the district’s rural and conservative base. Gonzalez served in the U.S. Navy from 1999 to 2019 retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer. He voted for the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act after the Robb Elementary School shooting in his district, citing personal experiences with domestic violence. He also opposed the Border Safety and Security Act of 2023 leading to a censure by the Texas GOP. He also voted against Jim Jordan for Speaker and the House rules package, further alienating some conservatives. Herrera appeals to younger, libertarian-leaning conservatives and gun rights activists. Rubio targets rural voters and traditional conservatives frustrated with the GOP establishment. Gonzales relies on incumbency, military credentials, and moderate bipartisan achievements—but faces criticism from the party’s right wing. The district is roughly 78% urban and 22% rural, with much of the land area being sparsely populated. We'll see how it goes...

Good buddy of mine was a T-6 FAIP at Laughlin; he got tagged to do incentive flights for some ROTC cadets going through Field Training. A friend of his was doing the some thing during the same Vul and taxis out first. As my buddy taxis into the hammerhead and catches up to the other airplane, he realizes something doesn't look right; low and behold the other airplane is now a convertible. The IP in question told the cadet in the backseat to put the ejection selector in command forward; cadet pulls the wrong handle and blows the canopy instead. Needless to say incentive flights were put on ice for a while after that.

Truth. I gave an I-ride to a crew chief, briefed him exactly what we were going to do and he was gung ho and normal as shit for the whole experience........ Riiiiiiiiiight up to about 5 seconds after brake release. Full AB and off the ground shortly after that, 5-bills at the end of the runway and into the vertical. He's hyperventilating for the acceleration which didn't seem that abnormal. At the start of the pull up he starts "ohhhhhhhhh" and then as we're vertical he says, "Sir, I want to go back." I level off at 10K and offered to just be an airliner and we could do some sight seeing and take it easy. He just kept repeating that he wanted to go back in a scary, panicked way. I started to get pretty concerned he was going to do something crazy, so I told him to put his hands under his thighs, don't touch anything and I'll have us back on the ground in 5 minutes. Should have done a straight-in but I wanted to get down fast. He almost lost it when it put some G on the aircraft in the pitch out. I figured out he no likey the Gs. Not an experience I'd care to repeat. Absolutely no fun having a panicked human trapped in your back seat with access to some fairly "reactive" handles and actuators. 0.1 KPAM-KPAM 🙃
