Excuse me, excuse me. I'm just going to insert this right here... US Air Force to deny retirement pay to transgender service members being separated from the service https://federalnewsnetwork.com/air-force/2025/08/us-air-force-to-deny-retirement-pay-to-transgender-service-members-being-separated-from-the-service/ Didn't they RIF a lot of majors who were twice passed over with around the same amount of time of serving that was roughly 15-18 years?

Honestly it's anybody guess what the board is looking for. I imagine there has to be some sort of expectations based on rank. Not sure a senior captain with all the boxes for major is comparable to an lt when getting selected but the board has taken both. I'm 99p/99pcsm no ppl but did IFT as an RPA guy. 100 pt test 4.0 MBA from a small private school (applied to OTS while in grad school). Have a 6 month "combat" deployment and letter of rec is my 04 deployment commander. I was 4/4 in my squadron so dont know if I even made it past the group. Coming out of existing rated I'm just hoping I make it to the board as my wing typically has double digit applicants and they have gates up to limit those from trying to crosstrain. The rumorint was if you're scores arent in the 90s dont bother.

Why should they get retirement when they’ve done less than 18 yrs? They haven’t performed the requisite amount of service and therefore haven’t earned it. And they’re not getting medically discharged, so that angle is N/A. Those 18+ YOS are getting it, which again isn’t earned, but good for them; I won’t hate the player and don’t blame them for getting it. I imagine there are some dipshit leaders who stupidly made promises they couldn’t back up, but that’s not the DoD’s fault.

Hey everyone, I'm a new applicant looking for a reality check with my package. I'm not sure whether to be optimistic or not and I'd like help setting my own expectations for the board. Graduated last year from AFROTC with a technical degree, 3.29 GPA Straight to AFIT where I'm getting a graduate certificate (not a master's), 3.2-3ish GPA, no DG program, no education ADSC 94 Pilot AFOQT, 99 PCSM, Private Pilot License (finished while in grad school), fully qualified medical, decent extracurriculars I went straight to AFIT from AFROTC, so I have no operational experience. My mentor who wrote my letter of recommendation (O-6 fighter pilot) and I tried to leverage my leadership experiences from AFROTC to make up the deficiency in this category, but obviously that's not going to compare to a deployment, exec experience, etc. I'm really hoping for ENJJPT, but realistically I'm doubtful about getting selected at all. Thoughts?

It sucks to give TERA then take it away, regardless of the person's sexual orientation. I don't necessarily understand the trans movement (probably never will). That being said, if they were promised retirement and it was taken away, then that's bad form.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt but the only way you get to that level, skill, awareness I think he is implying is by training and flying a lot and in several different types aircraft with good instructors, good equipment first in well crafted basic training situations then progressing to challenging, non-rote situations… Rinse lather repeat or Fly train fly… this is how it’s supposed to be #choirpreaching -

it was a holdover from when the requirement was significantly higher. It also allowed units to waive hours to less than the previous requirement, which was deemed insufficient given the UPT cuts combined with FTU course reductions pushed to the squadrons. -
Baro alt variations amongst the fleet in that airspace is very interesting. This accident was going to happen no matter who was piloting at some point if it was allowed to continue.

Well Leard is wondering why T-6s have specific go around procedures or why SPs get graded on it, because he didn’t do it that way in the C-17. He wants “military pilots,” not “T-6 pilots.” He has never done ab initio/undergraduate training so he’s out of his element Donnie. -
Bro, the hog dudes have some of the gucciest shit these days. They're running scorpion whilst the rest of us are using JHMCS or no HMCS (raptors) at all.

To be fair… doesn’t that meet or exceed the technology in the Hawg? Maybe these new trimmers are awesome, I dunno, everything is xeriscaped out here in the land of entrapment. 🍻

Maybe for this reason/policy, now rescinded 5.3.3. REMOVED. 5.3.3. SQ/CC may waive 30 percent of the total and PAA flying hours required for upgrade to aircraft commander... This change of policy must've been for some [welcome] reason!? And I'm not saying that max efforts are a problem in that community, but it is a risk and training opportunity missed b/c of no FP max effort quals when it seems training and qualifications are priorities, but its also "additional" training (qual and beans) with inherent risk requiring flt hours. Its all about in-seat experience on both counts. -
When I was a 2A753 (Sheet metal/corrosion control), I painted the grass in front of our Corrosion Control hangar green. This was in 1998 at the 388th.

So there is a correlation between operating multi-million dollar high tech war machines and a weed trimmer or lawn mower? My John Deere mower and Stihl trimmer are both over 25 years old. How sophisticated is lawn maintenance these days?

11-2MC-130J Vol 3 6.5.5.2: MC and FPs will not perform takeoffs or landings from the right seat under the following conditions: 6.5.5.2: During maximum effort or substandard airfield operations. FPs (MCs really since the MC-130 doesn’t really do traditional FP) finish the sim phase and don’t sit left seat again until AC upgrade or AC prep (current AC upgrade min hours is 600) therefore there’s little to no benefit to qual them in max efforts. I have not seen this be an issue during my time in the community, to include 2 schoolhouse tours and now current FTU CI. Edit to add: It's not that I haven't seen AC upgrade studs struggle with MEs; I have. It's just that by the end of the AC upgrade syllabus the average student gets it. Additionally, all the information in the MC-J HUD takes some of the art out of ME landings (power pull aside). I've seen far more ACUGs struggle with getting on/staying on the tanker, acting as the formation commander, and running a crew.
