Clearly the author has never been TDY to Romania or Pattaya…..

Shiiitttt, this guy hasn’t been TDY almost anywhere. He’d have an aneurism if he went to SE Asia or Eastern Europe.

Yeah, we took our First Sergeant (medical I believe) to an Ex with a stop in Pattaya. Dinner on the outskirts of walking street - she about had a heart attack. This was after her perplexity that we didn’t use rank on the airplane. Truly different worlds we live in. Flight doc though? Took a shower in the airline club.

This guy has obviously never been around gunners, booms or loads.

Takes me back to my first AFSOC all call. Buck walked out and his cold opener was “naked gunner hugs are over. Let me repeat myself, naked gunner hugs are over!”

…and the crowd was divided. 😂

What the heck is a naked gunner hug? Never mind, now I’m trying to gouge out my own minds eye.

"Naked gunner hugs????". Not sure if that deserves a "WTF is wrong with you people" or a Seinfeld "Not that there is anything wrong with that." The only naked Hawg driver I recall was one of the guys on an Atlantic crossing going to the tanker boom stripped down to shock the chick boomer who was not impressed and unphased by stunt.

A horrific tradition from the MH-53 Pavelow community whereby they would hug each other naked as a form of trust...FU!

I remember I deployment to Korea when they still had the detachment there and all the red scarf Pavelow homers though they were going to give the Gunship crewdawgs naked gunner hugs...Not happening and several people including myself were about to throw down.

We were doing an iron swap and happen to be going to the same place that a "team" (6? dudes) needed to get to, so we loaded up their ISU90 with "you don't want to know what's in there" and headed to the ME.  Load announces on initial climb out, "Yo, you ain't gonna believe this, dudes are stripped down to speedos and are playing some form of tag, oh wait, shit dog, there's a swinging dick.  Dudes are nuts, I now I can't unsee nuts.  I guess its some form of strip tag?"  The play by play had us rolling to tears.  LM had a calling in standup.

Some of you guys have never been around Rangers and it shows…

It wasn’t a gunnery until Dave chased you around the sleep area doing the “would you ____ me” tuck.

Apparently a lot of the enlisted folks think this is another thing wrong with the USAF.

Not just enlisted… we seemed to finally be moving in the right direction away from queep, chiefiness, sock colors, and reflective belt police..now we are headed back in that direction but now under the guise of readiness and GPC. Boot height, really? Also in ranks inspections are an utter waste of time.

I've seen some pretty questionable "boots" in shoe clerk world. Some of these rules end up happening because we have asshats out there clearly abusing the intent of the regs in uggs or coyote brown air force ones.

But I don't disagree with you that we are refocusing on stuff that absolutely doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things and it has been a significant downward trend for quite a while.

For pilots.

We forget that the rest of the military isn't officer heavy with the ability to filter for only the highest performing enlisted troops.

Talk to a marine recon officer about the type of shit they deal with, and the discipline side of the military starts to make a lot more sense. Saw a lot of it in Moron, and it was eye opening. Trying to control and motivate an 18-year-old who got his brand new girlfriend pregnant because he heard you make a little more money is an all together foreign experience for most Air Force pilots. I sure as hell didn't have to deal with it.

That's not to say I would have been on board with the changes, I'm a contrarian by nature, but the aviation wing of the military has always been the exception, not the rule.

Lebowski - Obviously, you are not a golfer. | Facebook

Obviously you're not a mobility pilot.  You sound more like an eagle driver who's only interaction with E's was when you yelled at your crew chief.  Another swing and a miss.  Many AF pilots are intimately familiar with actively leading 18 year-old aircrew, maintainers, and support troops.  Talk to any AC who's taking crewed aircraft on a 3 week trip or any major who's been a detco for weeks on end.

Your experience is not everyone else's.  Maybe come out of your echo chamber.

I've worked indepth with many marines.  They agree: Open ranks inspections are worthless outside of boot camp.  They pursue discipline in far more functional and useful ways.

He was 100% a mobility pilot. We were stationed together on KC-135s.
