  1. Is the "twisties" for a gymnast sort of like the "drops" for a wide receiver? I watched some of the men completely obliterate themselves off the high bar, losing themselves in the air while twisting about three times higher than the vault and then get right back up to do it again. There was no commentator/media fawning -- just a yawn and "better luck next Olympics."

    USAA

So I think I'm finally done with USAA. Going to move insurance and banking and be done with the crappy service. Any good suggestions? I do not live in ALPHA state. I figure to will be a lot of work to make the move after decades of one company, but I'm paying for services I do not receive. Not sure how it's not just called stealing... Anyhoo, before I drag myself into a solid 40+hours of investigating I thought I'd look for recent success stories.
  3. Times have changed a bit -- pretty much need the masters to get O-6 in AFRC.
  4. Wait - what? They got a Sonic, Subway AND Pizza Hut now? Must be awesome!
  5. SWA hiring 2K over next 18 months plus they just ordered a pile more Max 7s.
  6. Don't let COVID fool you. While the airlines took a hit, pretty much everyone saw it as short term. There are bigger issues out there like war and recession/depression. In my experience, the benefit of the ARC flying job is a regular option for full time work when every other pilot is stuck selling insurance.
  7. From my latest re-investigation brief, it now says you do not have to report mental health counseling related to "marriage, family, grief, sexual assault, or PTSD". Can't remember what it used to say, but I'm pretty sure that's new.

  9. End of an era. We'll miss you brother! I look forward to seeing you beyond the big blue. I'll even let my wife sit on your lap again!
  10. They did this just before the Bone was introduced also. Not really a new idea...
  11. Hey mods - how about we get this thread back on track and move the George Floyd debate to its own thread. This used to be my fav but has become a buzz kill. Here's a little turn toward the normal for the WTF discussion...
  12. FOIA requests work well for the old stuff. I got my uncle's F-4 Vietnam shoot-down report that way several years back. Had all the family stories (more than one F-4 pilot in our family at the time), but it was interesting to see the actual report. On a semi-related note, got the flag and an empty glass out for some family remembrance on this Memorial Day
  13. Why are you just asking fighter/attack folks?
  14. It won't make any difference. If it comes up (unlikely) just say you wanted to travel the world and live like a rock star rather than hang out in a tiny briefing room with a bunch of dudes for six hours for every .69 hours of flying time.
  15. One of the best parties I ever attended was at PME. That was worthwhile.
  16. You could build an entire neighborhood in Del Rio for $3M.
  17. I realized the only reason I open this thread or the light attack thread is to see if anyone posted pics of hot airplanes or maybe hot chicks near average airplanes.
  18. Having done TFR, I can say it would be almost zero benefit. I found TFR was more about power management or VERY low vis. While the vis can suck on fire drops, it's usually not like clouds or pitch black night. It's marginal, but if you can't see so bad you need TFR to get to the drop then you should call knock it off and live to fight another day. 99.99969% of fixed-wing fire drops are not related to protecting life. It's not life structure firefighting -- lots of trees, snake and lizards.
  19. Had a similar issue a while back. I took myself off the flight schedule and met the IG in-person instead. Problem got solved while I sat there at the dude's desk.
  20. It was hashed around for a while years ago. When Charlotte was planned to go from C-130s to C-17s it had a little more discussion. Operating cost is a big factor with the J model much cheaper. The current and previous MAFFS systems would not work, so you'd have to design new ones which is a huge cost. The company that built the old system (Aero Union) is gone. However, since we print our own money in this country any time it feels like we're running out, anything is possible.
