  1. I knew Whiting (at least interacted with him several dozen times) at one assignment in the last few years. The guy is a douche. I'm pretty sure I took some kind of oath or something to do with the Constitution. Maybe he didn't take the same one?
  2. Don't forget lesbian. I can confirm as I saw it first-hand when it was still illegal. Not sure I could forget it if I wanted. However, she was pretty hot at the time (2 Lt in Turkey - long story), so I took no offense.
  3. I think the commandant job is "frocked", so she would revert to O-6 once removed.
  4. If you're getting out because of lifestyle then think twice about fire fighting. You live like a gypsy. You do not need ag spray experience for SEATs. Lots of guys go in from single seat fighters. One of the biggest outfits is run by a viper dude, and he hires a lot of AF & Navy. Lead plane is another options, but it's also the gypsy life and working for USFS which has laughable leadership (worse the AF -- imagine that).
  5. I remember going into the bathroom at the Playboy Club in Istanbul and there was a this old lady attendant standing in there. I didn't give it a second thought other than she better get out of my way before I barf on her legs (long story). It doesn't bother me if chicks are drafted (I got two boys) or are forced to stand in the bathroom while I take a growler. It's all inevitable.
  6. They can always just make another career field "rated" like they did with ABMs.
  7. The sales pitch does not matter. Efficiency does not matter. This would make less money for the top defense contractors therefore it is not viable. I worked in simulator research for a while when we created the first high fidelity simulator based on commercial off-the-shelf parts. We created a C-130 simulator that out-performed all existing variants. We created ours from scratch, in one year using active duty labor. Total cost (including the value of the labor) was under $1M. We were ordered to cease and desist. A group of SESs sat us down and explained that we cannot have this because it would hurt Lockheed who was selling sims for $45M per, and we needed Lockheed to be strong for overall defense.
  8. I was in my first semester teaching at USAFA in fall 2001. After 9/11, I got recalled back to the (real) flying world to deploy immediately since I was still qualified. My new gear included a reversible Gore-Tex jacket which I wore with my flight suit when it was raining the day before I left. Some DB Lt Col came running all the way across the parking lot to tell me it wasn't authorized. I literally laughed out loud. I just kept laughing until he walked off. It was funny because it just never occurred to me that anyone would care. It was freaking pooring down rain and a week after the sucker punch. I've been wearing OCPs in lieu of ABUs for two years just because they fit me better. Morons only have power in your life if you let them.
  9. Good before and after wed site from USAA: http://usaa-catmap.s3-website.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/
  10. Looks like Constanta. There used to be a super hot chick working int he tower there.
  11. Pretty sure you get the extra coin once you turn 60. Cal the retirements section at ARPC 1-800-525-0102 (they handle both guard 7 reserve). They can set you straight.
  12. Confirmed from inside sources. As for the future, who knows. It appears her most important aspect in leading AFRC was to remain neutral and ensure future advancement. We can also now celebrate another first for LGBTQXYZ.
  13. Heavy in CAF has been around a while, but an E-3 is a bit of a kick in the nuts. Unlucky is an understatement. I'm thinking multiple DUIs and caught with a tranny prostitute.
  14. What gives on the E-3 in 38s? There's got to be a story behind that one.
  15. I think this has happened before...
  16. I think you hit the target. If you have access, take a look at AMC's Phoenix Eagle list sometime. While there is always a pile of good potential CCs on there, many of the top candidates in the rack-and-stack are laughable. It's full of career ass-kissers who have little operational experience and multiple exec/ADC jobs. There was one year where I literally saw only two names (did not know either) who looked worth the risk. Just like the only good predictor for future pilot performance is past pilot performance, the only good indicator for future leadership performance is past leadership performance. Placing a career follower (exec, ADC, etc.) in a command position is risky.
  17. Be gentle and be sure to provide a safe space for after the debrief.
  18. How how quickly we forget... At least do a USAFA liaison job. The airlines will tank again, and your life will be much easier if you can go fly something versus selling insurance and waiting for that call back.
  19. Huggy - amazingly, this is actually a bigger story than I thought http://www.latlmes.com/world/navy-safety-alert-1
  20. You got me! I read the whole thing. I think the fact you pasted that whole message and got people to read is also a WTF moment.
  21. Round & round we go! My crusty old dad was a career F-4 pilot. When I became OG/CC, he asked me, "What the hell is an OG/CC?" When I explained he told me that was a new one on him and said that used to be the wing DO.
  22. I don't know what all the whining is about. Almost 30 years so far of living like fvcking rock star. Make sure you go Hercs because it's hard to get a pallet of Makhong back from Thailand in anything else.
  23. You had me until I saw this line. Nobody so goes to a "club bar" anymore, so I quickly realized this is satire.
