  1. Saying I’d deal with a C-130 unit......as a last resort probably won’t help.

  2. Just talked to Promotions at AFPC. The rumor is true, the CY-17D list is going to be pushed out to Wings later today. (At worst early tomorrow). Suspect a 19 June release.

  5. SMSgt Siemiet was involved in this... I'm not surprised. He was a SRA and SSgt at Beale "back in the day", and a terrific NCO. Leader, mentor AND innovator. Infectious demeanor, boundless energy. He is what I'd want all of the NCO's in my squadron to be like. I hope CMSgt is his next stop. If you're at Yokota, go shake his hand. Then figure out a way to get him into your squadron.

  6. There's literally a picture of a guy wearing this mask with a helmet in the story.

  7. Yes. It has been sent out on the high side in the past to “protect” it but it always gets out. ~Ten business days is standard for every set of O-4 results I’ve seen the past few years.

  9. Gatsby, I could be wrong, but I highly suspect that the contrast and chromaticity (i.e. color co-ordinates) of the letters seen in that print are not the same as what would be presented on the actual test. Thus, they don't fully isolate the cones so your "weak" cone is not actually being tested. In my experience people don't fail Ishihara and pass CCT. Also, if you are wearing a +3.00 and +2.50 contact lens, then I would expect that your refractive error is more hyperopic than what you are wearing. The measurement for refractive error is taken under cycloplegic (dilated) conditions, which paralyzes the accommodative muscles and typically yields more hyperopia than what a person will wear comfortably under non-dilated conditions. If I had to guess, I would think your left eye may be pushing the hard limit of +4.00. That's easy enough to determine. Have a doc dilate your eyes with two drops of 1% Cyclopentolate and see how much power you need to see 20/20. If it's over +4.00, it's a DQ without waiver potential. I don't mean to be giving you a bunch of bad news, but that's my best guess.

  11. Thanks for confirming that. Now did you ask them why they took so long to get this out? Or why didn’t they do a better job of communicating the delays? (Insert eye roll emoji here ahaha) but thanks. I know you are ready to get on with this as I suspect most of us are.

  13. One of you savages posted the rumor on the portal page, and even referenced baseops.net, so I guess they deleted all the comments. What a wonderful day.

  14. I believe this is only the case with ART's and AGR's. Not GS's getting recalled to AD. They basically put an end to people working the system in the NG/ANG.

  15. If this were a one-off, I'd be with you. But the fact we've relieved so many commanders, coupled with the way we choose them means that there is something systemically wrong with the selection of these commanders. Who bears the responsibility for that, the people being chosen or the people doing the choosing?

  16. Let's not kid ourselves...If Howard wasn't in this situation, we'd be tripping over ourselves to say that his sponsor was what was right in the AF. Before anyone starts, I am a true believer in second chances, but dudes need to understand why leadership is reluctant sometimes to take action. As much as it sucks, its called "Indicators" for a reason. Just my $0.02, but you want Commanders to keep sticking their necks out to advocate for their Airmen (again true believer). Having sponsors go "down with the ship" would make it tougher to Commanders to be willing to do so. Don't blame them, blame the person at fault.

  20. Two separate issues. If they are below average/don't meet (non medical) standards, they should be separated based on job performance. Any service related injuries would be dealt with through the VA. If they can't meet job performance standards due to medical reasons, well, the MEB should decide if they are good to keep serving and in what capacity, or to medical retire or separate them. If the air force wants to separate people who are medically non deployable but otherwise meets standards, those people should be separated via an MEB, not by ignoring their performance and putting them on the bottom of the rack and stack based solely on a limiting medical condition.

  21. How is it you are burning your mil leave? We have many GS-13s in Userra right now serving as AGRs. As of 1 Jan 2017, we were told that the use of the 120 hrs of mil leave is no longer allowed each year, so our AGRs lost the ability (which had been standard up to that point) to earn a few weeks of GS pay each year by filling out time cards with LM. That’s all been taken away as of last year. What state are you in if you don’t mind my asking?

  22. True, but to play devil's advocate here, I'm sitting on a couple of individuals waiting on an MEB who should be separated without medical retirement. They are milking the system, and on the civilian side worker's comp investigators would nail these people for fraud. Unfortunately, the DoD is an easy target for people "hurt in the line of duty". Don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water, but my recent exposure to the dirtbags makes me wonder just how many people are getting disability money, or were medically retired who don't deserve it. Again, believe me, I get what this job does to the body, but some (lots) people take advantage.

  23. As goofy as the original Top Gun was, it was a great time to be going through UPT! I was at Columbus in the summer of 86 and after Top Gun premiered, a lot of young pretty faces started showing up at the local bars (both of them! "Good Times, Bonny and Clydes" remember them?). We milked that dumb movie for all it was worth with the ladies. They loved it, and we tried not to disappoint them!

  25. I encourage you to read everyone post in this forum. I have recently completed my FC1 at WP AFB. I landed in Dayton on Sunday afternoon. I rented a car( very very useful if you can afford it, my unit would only approve taxi fare reimbursement). I drove from Dayton International, about 25 mins to WP AFB area a to the Wright Patterson Inns. If you have a military Id, you will go thru gate and check in. If you’re guard or reserve they will ask you to pay it with a credit or debit card. I was booked from Monday thru Friday. On Monday, i showed up to the USAFSAM building 840 at WP AFB area B. If you google “building 840 parking lot wright patterson it will take you close to the actual parking lot. Go ahead and park and enter the building on the north entrance. Immediately after you enter, there is a hallway. Make a right on hallway and go to room W100. ( that’s what was instructed). A technician then briefs you on what to expect and hands over a folder with your info. In the front of folder there is a list of tests. Every time a tech completes a test, they will initial it. Day one, they did an EKG( fasting required min 4 hours), checked my blood pressure, dental exam, some eye exams (amsler, red lens, pressure test, color, etc) they also took dental x-rays, optometry check up, hearing test, medical history interview. We went to lunch, then came back to a 4 hour psych assessment. There were like 5 sections but each came with a break in between. Next day, I started at the area a hospital across from Wright Patterson inns reception. You must fast like 12 hours. They has us do a urine test, blood draw (9 biles). Then, they had us do a chest x-ray. Then back to area b building 840. There were additional eye tests, dilate pupils, more eye tests. They did the body measurements and weight. You get to sit in a chair without shoes or socks. It simulates the T6 seat. They measure your sitting height, arm length, leg length. Takes like 5 mins. Once you’re done, you get to see a flight doc who confirms with you whether any new stuff from MEPS to this exam. We were then told to hang in until next day by 9 am. The main tech called us to let us know we were good or if she needed us to retest. Luckily for me, i was able to be released same day and i took a flight home. Now just waiting till i hear from the NGB to get my TFOT Dates and hope for UPT info too. Tip: Definitely make time to check the AF museum. Worth every second of your time. It’s free and they do close at 5 pm. Another thing. Attitude is, in my opinion, the biggest thing to be conscious of. These technicians and doctors are there to hep you. Do not feel intimidated by them at all. These are people and love to talk. if you have a good attitude, and may assist you with completing the tests or give you an idea if you have an issue and whether is waiver able or not. Overall, we had one guy dq for some issue with his eye, but he will be able to get waiver and fly for the US air force. The optometrist was very frank with him and initiated all waiver info. We also had an ROTC guy who thought couldn't go for manned aircraft due to his eye sight issues and was set for RPA. However WP people told him his condition was waiverable and now will pursue a manned airframe spot instead of RPA. Also, for guard and reserve, they won't have any lunch purchased for you. You will either buy something on the cafeteria (Starbucks) on the second floor of building 840 at WPAFB area B. This is one of the reasons it is good to have a car (rental) because you can go off site and pick up lunch. All in all a very good experience. Good luck to you all.

  27. Ok, so i understand there is info about rushing units and what not. But i am trying to rush units that seem to hire from within. The reason for going this route is due to the fact that i don't have the flexibility of moving around and i am also running out of time age wise without needing an age waiver. Currently i am 28 and about to turn 29 in a month time isn't on my side. Also i just relocated and bought a condo about 10 months ago due to my wife's job, so the intent is to have about a 400 mile radius of travel and apply to all within that radius. Not super keen on driving 6 hours a few times a month but i am really trying to do what i can to join the reserve or the guard. I was curious if anyone could provide P.O.C. or help me connect with the right people within the 400 mile radius of Nashville, TN. Im really trying to go after a C-17 unit, that is my preference but can deal with a C-130 unit as a last resort. I applied to the Jackson MS unit back when they had boards but didn't get an invite, Memphis hasn't hired since 2016 and they are my preferred unit of choice travel wise, and there is a unit in Dayton, OH at wright patt. There is one more C-17 unit within my bubble but i can't remember where it was off the top of my head. For C-130 units, there is a unit here in nashville, one in Louisville Ky, Dobbins AFB, Maxwell AFB, and Charlotte NC which i think are in the process of transferring to C-17's not sure if this is accurate or not. Could anyone shed light on how i can break the ice with these units and work my way in with no prior military experience. Still constantly working on how i can market myself with little flight experience and no military background other than having a father who served in the army and a grandfather who served in the navy. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. I wish i would have started this journey earlier, but thats life.
