  1. Started by Gunner11,

Currently an active duty AH-64E Pilot for the army as a commissioned officer. Looking at opportunities for IST to the Air Force to continue my aviation career. Looking for thoughts and anyone with past experience with this and could lend a hand. Thanks!

  2. About a year ago I had highly competitive scores and was getting guard/reserve fighter squadron interviews left and right. While I never got picked up, I felt that eventually I would get a slot. ...fast forward to today: I was turned down from even getting an interview at a fighter board where I interviewed a year prior and was in the top third of interviewees, I was turned down from the active duty board, and I am not even getting heavy squadron interviews anymore. I have a hunch that there are a few others in my position as well, so I might as well ask this question as broadly as possible: What can we do to improve our chances? The common feedback that …

Long story short, Current MSgt AGR, Work at a bomb range (non flying wing). Recently completed my Bachelors. 11 years in, DSG from 2010-2016, AGR since. Have been able to be exposed to all types of aviation due to my current job. Have recently (2019) decided that pursuing an aviation career is what I want. I should finish my PPL this spring. I have sacrificed a lot to get it done. I know a lot of the pilots in my state, have a good reputation. 65 Pilot Afoqt, 50 PCSM (41 hrs) 56 when I hit 60-80 Hours. Due to money I will probably finish around 60 hours. I've got great Letters of recommendation from leadership all over my state. I am decorated and feel like I interview we…

  4. Hello all! Stoked to finally be here typing this and possibly start this process. Army Guard RLO looking at going the AFR route through the civil path to wings program. Was in new hire airline training last January when we got sent home from COVID. Volunteered for a CONUS deployment that I am about half way through to weather the storm. I've already been recalled and am now on mil leave, but looking to head back to my regional to knock out the ATP prior to transitioning to the AF. From hearing other's timelines, it sounds like that shouldn't be an issue. Age: 27 Clemson University: Management GPA: 3.33 AFOQT: P99/N90/AA81/V78/Q74 PCSM:…

  5. I've put off making this thread for months. Back in December I took the AFOQT after almost a year of waiting. I studied my ass off for it and studied the way everyone said too. I purchased the Baron's book, the Trivium Book, the online practice test from AFOQT academy as well as several PDF files of AFOQT, ATSB, SIFT practice tests. To practice I used scan tron sheets to simulate the time and real testing environment. I took two weeks off of work up through the testing date to make sure I was fully prepared and had plenty of time to study. On practice tests, I was regularly getting 90s-100s on each subsection. I went and took the test, felt I did well and three weeks late…

  6. Thank you in advance for reading. I am looking for any advice to augment my package as well as answers to a few specific questions: I am 22 years old and a recent graduate from the University of Georgia. I have a degree in Finance with a minor in Aerospace Studies and a 3.85 GPA. I have a 99 pilot AFOQT, 93 PCSM, a PPL, and 85 flight hours. I also held a variety of jobs and volunteer positions in college ranging anywhere from bartender to intern at a special needs outreach. My current job is in Texas with Bell Helicopter however I am still intent on flying for the Guard or Reserve. Specifically, I have been reaching out to any fighter units in the South that w…

  7. 1st AFOQT Pilot Score: 87 1st PCSM Score: 83 @ 101-200 hour bracket....87 @ 201+ hours Post Retake of the TBAS without a change in flight hours: 89 @ 101-200 hour bracket....93 @ 201+hours For the guys that have retaken the AFOQT and have improved their AFOQT Pilot section, what did see for an increase in your PCSM score? What is a fair expectation of my PCSM score increase if I raise the AFOQT Pilot let's say to 90 or a 95? Also any pointers or words of advice to help increase the AFOQT pilot score would be appreciated.... I'm in the process of studying for a retake and I'm open for any suggestions. Thanks!

After some inspirational reading from @FDNYOldGuy and the fact that my desire to both fly and serve grows larger each day I ended up knocking out the AFOQT/TBAS and graduate from lurker status to member here. This is an incredible site but I wanted to make sure I was even in the ballpark of qualified before filling up another "old guy" thread as I am 34. 10. In my tenure I’ve seen the UPT starting age go from 27 to 30 to maybe 33? What is the latest gouge? Is 33 the limit? Are waivers likely or unlikely? My unit is accepting packages right now and they just want to make sure they aren’t turning away qualified candidates.

  12. Stats below, originally joined the Navy with a pilot slot and right before OCS graduation I got the "NAMI Whammi" for self diagnosing migraines. Haven't had one in over 10 years. Had a good shot with Reno ANG but COVID fixed their manning issue cancelling the board to which I was applying. Looking to join a unit preferably on the west coast but will probably need 3 waivers- Age, Commissioned service, migraines. Anyone have an idea if I have a shot (pilot or CSO) or should I just stick with the devil I know? Thanks in advance. My son tried his hardest on the AFOQT and took it twice while in ROTC. He scored in the 40 for all his sections except the verbal. Both times he missed the cutoff with the same score. He studied but I guess verbal was not his strongest. My question to this forum is if he goes enlisted and decides to go from enlisted to officer will he not be allowed to commission since he took the AFOQT twice at an earlier age? He is still going to stay in school and get his degree but wants to enlist and try to commission.

  16. Hey, all. Thanks for the great community to help spin up on info about a career in military aviation! I've spent a lot of hours on here reading and lurking, but this is my first post. Might as well make it a big one, right? First, pardon me for any ignorance in information. Although I have spoken with a recruiter (just spoke while typing this, actually, and working on scheduling MEPS), I did a lot of the work thus far myself outside of filling out the application docs. An awful lot of the stuff is foreign to me coming from the civilian world and not having someone guiding me through the process, so I'm sure a lot of it is simple or I've done it out of order. I'm…

Hello all, I applied for the AD 2021 UFT board and got RPA. I was going for pilot, but was selected for URT. If I decline URT it will disqualify me from ever applying to UFT again due to my age waiver I received for the board. Does that mean if I declined and tried for a guard Upt slot that I would be disqualified as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Feeling super bad about this one. Had an interview with a fighter squadron not too long ago and the topic of vaccines came up because I asked about it. I am not opposed to the Covid-19 vaccine but I just haven't gotten it yet. Figured I would receive it if I could hopefully get hired. It seemed like this thought process was not well received and now I am losing a lot of sleep. Should I have kept my mouth shut about this and should I go and get the vaccine now so this isn't an issue anymore?

  20. I'm one year out from graduating at this point, so I can start the process. 21. Hey all, newbie to the forum (wish I knew about it sooner!). Been reading around a fair bit and have found some super helpful information. That said, I'll get to it but first here's the story: I have a bit of an eclectic backstory. Compared to some, I could be considered a late bloomer. After graduating high school, I was offered a music scholarship for college (after a brief attempt to tryout hockey as a career). Went to school for about 9 months, but absolutely was not ready to be there. I worked for the better part of my early 20's in music retail, as a gigging musician and music teacher. Went back to school for music around the age of 24. Again, my heart wasn't i…

  23. Hello everyone! After months of delay due to COVID, I was able to take the TBAS and complete my application packet. I am absolutely thrilled to be sending out my first application packet tomorrow but I would love some feedback on my scores, chances, and anything I can improve on that would help me land an interview. I recently turned 23 and graduated with a 3.36 gpa in B.S. in Political Science from TCU! (Go Frogs). In school I founded and presided over TCU's first ever aviation club called the "Flying Frogs." I was also involved in Model UN and won numerous awards from conferences. On another note, while pursuing a healthier and happier lifestyle I was blessed with …

  24. Hello, as you may be able to tell, this is my first post. Before I ruffle any feathers by my sheer ignorance, I just wanted to say that the past 5 years I have struggled to make headway with any moves towards a career in aviation and military due to not being a U.S. Citizen (from UK), as well as lacking the funds. Since my circumstances have changed, I hope to put in 100% over the next year or so to be competitive for an ANG/AFRES slot. I am sorry for not posting test scores because I only just became a citizen! I just wanted to have preliminary confirmation/denial that I am 1. Young enough, 2. Have enough education/experience, 3. The right attitude, - as a first step. …
