I always wondered, when your actually active duty and your assigned to lets say an F-16D (2 seater). What if you wanted to give your brother or father a ride in the back with you. If they are healthy enough to pass the physical is this allowed?

I don't know why this is an issue every time I attempt it. I get told 18 different things by 16 different people. Attempting to go from LHR>JFK>ORF. Langley is my TDY location. Then am going to book my own (miles) to Tucson for a couple days leave. Optimum would be to fly home (LHR) from Tucson. Attempted to do that and CTO said the following FLIGHT COMMENTS: CANNOT FLY ON GOV RATES FROM A LEAVE LOCATION DELTA WILL ALLOW A STOP IN JFKAmended my tickets to pickup the Heathrow return from JFK. Then they kicked back for this.** CANNOT FLY OUT OF JFK YOU MUST HAVE A ROUND TRIP FROM ORF THE AIRLINE WILL ALLOW A FREE STOP IN JFK BUT YOU MUST FLY ORF JFKSo basically they a…

All, Long time listener, first time caller. I've searched (and searched and searched) through this forum for while, but haven't quite found enough info to solve my little dilemma. I'm in nav training at Randolph, 3 weeks away from a/c drop, #1 in my class, and split 50/50 on B-52's or C-130's, specifically to Ramstein. I think I'd be thrilled with either mission, so "part" of my decision making does come down to what's better for my wife. She loves traveling and all that jazz, still unsettled by the ops tempo of flying, but I imagine every new AF wife is. Specific pros or cons to either assignment would be greatly appreciated. JSM

All right... I'm searching for the rule which allows distribution/possession/consumption on USAF Contract Commercial Aircraft. Example, a unit is deploying to location X - flying American Airlines Flt XX from a military base. Can we open a flask/bottle in the back? Folks are telling me we can...I need proof.

All this Viper and Eagle talk has got me wondering something, for you fighter guys, what was/is the reason for you choosing the fighter you did? Mission, capability, sexiness, etc??? I'm no where near any choosing point, but I'd like to hear what the guys flying fighters these days saw/see so appealing about their airframe. Thanks.

Here is the question : Two aircraft, one heavier than the other, descending at the same airspeed. Which aircraft will have the greater VVI and why? The question came up today in a conversation with some friends and most agreed the lighter acft would have the greater VVI but couldn't agree on why. Excuse my ignorance on the subject. Thanks in advance for your input

Hey all, Facing an FEB in the USAF, my CC just notified me of it. I haven't been given the official reason or letter yet. I know that I don't want to voluntarily give up my wings and that this FEB isn't for a FTU fail to train issue. As I prepare myself for this I'm just searching out any advice or help from anyone that has gone through the process or is aware of what happens during an FEB. Anything is helpful as google hasn't really produced much in terms of results. Thank you!

I'm about to retire at the end of the month. Off the top of your head, can you remember anything that you had to sign up for in terms of benefits that was time critical? Anything you would have done differently or forgot to do? Thanks and happy holidays

  11. I'm about to sign up for another Master's class for my Master of Science in Aeronautics at ERAU. I heard SOS counts as some kind of credit toward most ERAU Master's degrees so I wanna make sure I don't take one that I'll get credit for in SOS. Does anyone know what it might count for?

Gunmen using silenced pistols shot dead a senior Iraqi general in Baghdad on Thursday, an official said, the latest in a spate of assassinations of top military and civilian officials. The killing of Brigadier General Mohammed Alaa Jassim was the fourth of a senior Iraqi official in the past week, with at least three others having narrowly escaped death in that time. Jassim, the deputy commander of the Iraqi air force's Al-Muthanna base in central Baghdad, was in his car on a busy thoroughfare in the Ghazaliyah neighbourhood in the capital's west when he was killed, an interior ministry official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Not a good month or two …

Did a search and got a little info but not what I was really looking for. Does anyone do a side job in addition to your flying job? I am sure that it is difficult if not impossible with the current state of the Air Force but I have heard of people teaching night classes or something like that for a few extra $$$. I have been thinking of doing something like real estate or other "creative" ideas to bring in some extra cash to pay off debt. I know that to work another job you have to get permission but do you have to get the ok if you and your wife are doing some sort of venture together etc? I am basically asking if many of you do things just on the weekends or whatev…

We've had a few guys go from -10s to the E-4 in the past couple of years, and was wondering what life is like in the E-4. Can anyone here shed a little light? I'm just looking for the standard: quality of life, TDY rate, the mission, length of tour, etc. I'm guessing they do a fair amount of sitting alert. No joy on the search. Thanks for the help. 16. I always thought the Air Force was the one place where equality and fairness actually meant something. Boy was I wrong. I knew this all along after I sat in on my first court martial. I thought if the kid who was being court martialed had a REAL lawyer he would walk free. If your defense counsel breaks out a PowerPoint presentation you should fire him/her or expect to be found guilty period. I told the Lt Col for JAG I will not be apart of another court martial due to the AF being just as biased as the civilian court system. He told me the WG/CC really wanted me on the board. I told my CC it's biased to his face too. The proof is in the pudding: https://www…

So I've been reading baseops forum for a while, and a number of other websites, about every AF career under the sun. I'm waiting on my PCSM right now, and I'm leaning towards applying to OTS as a Pilot. On to my question: What do pilots do in addition to their flying duties?

Is the process pretty easy after graduation to take the test and get all the paperwork in order, schedule an appointment with the FSDO, etc? There's a guy offering to do all the legwork in Columbus for $250 as well as teach a class to help prepare for it, but we don't know how much is actually involved with it.

Recently, I have been considering the option of joining the Air Force. I will be joining a ROTC and hope to service my country in a way that only the military can, put my life on the line. In my search for more information, I have come to believe that it is harder to leave the military than it is to get in. My question is this, if I graduate ROTC and pursue a pilot career, how many years will I be committing? The minimum 6 years of service? Does the military have its ways of trapping a pilot in active duty or do most people just continue because they love the life? Thanks, Augustine

My wife was recently offered a job at the pentagon and isn’t sure about taking it. Her hesitation is she doesn’t want me to stop flying. So, with a C17, T6 and C208 background and a few bases In the area what’s the possibility of flying attached to one of those units while working the the HAF? I know I’m probably going to get laughed out of the park on this one since flying staff job are a dying breed. However I️ have to ask and am looking for people that have good intel before we make a decision. Any info would be appreciated. If I’m missing something let me know.
