I'm waiting on my first set of orders. The NCO in my ROTC office has had them done since Monday, but he's waiting on Finance to approve the Funds Cite. What is this, and how long does it usually take? Thanks BLud

FG, Wanted to take moment to formally recognize you and say thanks for your participation and input on this forum. Unfortunately, this forum highlights the often negative relationship between Ops and Support. You are definitely in the business of taking care of folks as demonstrated by the number and depth of questions you answer. How in the world you found your way to a forum full of prima dona aviators is a mystery, the fact that you stayed and have contributed and helped so many people is a testament to the type of professional you are. On behalf of all the folks you have helped on this board, thanks! CH

So, there i was for the 10th plus time at finance, its 1 day before i am supposed to pick up my rental truck and other equipment before i PCS 2 days from now. I go to the counter like i always do, sign in, sit down and wait..... I consider myself fairly up-to-speed on things like filling out forms, following up, getting as much info as possibe, and looking up the regs to educate myself on how the world goes around at finance but, with all these precautinary steps, and my prior reserve/enlisted experience I still am amazed how unreliable finance is. I turned in my paperwork early like i always do, and of course for my DITY move advance (60% upfront), and all other pay allo…

Off the street guard hire, just PCSd to home unit after finishing B Course. Finance is refusing to pay DLA because they are considering it my "final PCS" I also had to stay in a hotel / friends couch for 20 days because my HHG shipment was 3 weeks late delivery. I tried to claim 10 days TLE and they are also not paying, stating the "final PCS" reason I've read the JTR... I think I'm eligible for both. Anyone have other interpretations of it?

  6. Guard member, PCSd from HOR to UPT base in Feb 2015. Got paid for PCS in April 2015. October 2016, I get a nasty gram in the mail from DFAS saying they paid me twice for my PCS, and are collecting the debt. No phone number or person to call, just DFAS mailing address. I also got a 'Travel Voucher Advice of Payment' online, showing a travel voucher debt. Jan 2017 they collect the 'debt' from my paycheck. The AF never paid me twice.. I have all the bank statements to prove. When I submitted my voucher, I believe finance modified the voucher to remove UHaul insurance, and refiled it. I went to local Guard Finance... they said I'd have to go over to the ac…

Hi all, Headed down to sheppard for UPT this summer. I've been trying to get an idea for my finances. I was wondering if some guys could help clarify a few questions. -What does it cost to live in the dorms or is it free? What about internet/cable/heat/water? -How much can i expect to take home per month if I'm single, not using the TSP, etc. I assume I get flight pay for UPT? How do taxes and life insurance costs play in? -How much per month do guys usually spend on food / fun? -Anyone have good investment tips for the rest of the money i'm not blowing on beer? also, I dont wanna sound like i'm looking forward to the money more than the flying (quite th…

Okay. I've hit this problem from just about every angle I can think of but have yet to come up with a solution. I leave for Randolph (UNT) very soon. Because of my son's heart condition, he needs to stay near his surgeons back home. On top of that, my wife has a great job and my daughter is in a school program that you have to be accepted to and will have to re-apply if she leaves (lottery). Needless to say, they have to stay home. Here's the dilemma: Base pay - taxes + BAH (waived for dependent location) + BAS = Civilian Pay (almost to the penny). Since I have to accept BAH to maintain my household back home, I cannot live on base. To live off base will …

I am looking for an old buddy who I served with a long time ago and who separated from the USAF in the early 90s. I am lucky in that I have an old set of orders that has his SSN on it. I tried Intelius but only got a listing of possible cities. A full report costs $50, and I want to be sure the info is worth getting before shelling out the cash. I did a search on his name and in those cities via WhitePages.com; but the one best lead (same exact name) I got was not the right person. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations. The driving factor behind all of this was my being contacted by a guy who served with my bud's father in Vietnam, and who was wit…

I've heard a lot about work days typically running to the 12-hour mark. That's all well and good, but when do you AD guys find time to go to the gym?! I'm not even commissioned yet and I find it a struggle to fit in an 8-hour work day, all of my daily responsibilities AND an hour or two at the gym. When do you guys work out? (And if this has been answered before, searching the forum didn't reveal a single post that contained the word "gym.")

Since the topic of "formation approaches and wing landings" has come up elsewhere, I want to ask the fighter/attack folks about fingertip: is it still relevant to what you do? Or if IMC, do you depart/arrive via some sort of radar trail? What about the A-10's? Do they use fingertip more? Or do they split up to singletons? Do A-10's do wing takeoffs if there is a 600' ceiling on departure? I realize fighters can come up initial in fingertip... but is flying initial in tactical better/preferred/more common, as compared to fingertip? Bottom line: is fingertip still relevant to what you do as a fighter/attack pilot? Is the answer differen…

The Barksdale BX just started selling firearms. I was just curious if any other BX's have started doing this as well? The prices seem fairly reasonable and the tax free is the best part! They've got everything from Glock and HK to Remington.

  14. Did a search and only found a couple posts from 5 years back or so regarding the time between UPT graduation and follow on training. I'll be graduating UPT here in June of 2013 and am planning on getting married shortly after (like the weekend after). I'm just wondering what the current average amount of time is between graduation and follow on training, i.e. SERE/Water Survival/MWS training/etc...? Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any truth to the statement that "UPT classes early in the fiscal year get drops with more fighter slots than classes toward the end of the fiscal year." Many people seem to think this, so I'm curious about the validity. Did some searching, but couldn't come up with any answers. Any info would be appreciated.
