  1. Started by ARAMP1,

I'm posting this for a good friend of mine who is a former Marine Cobra pilot. I don't know much about what the actual job entails other than it's an office job that pays 6 figures plus benefits. He specifically said they were looking for recently separated or retired AF Osprey pilots. If you're interested and/or want more info, drop me a private message and I'll pass along his contact info.

The F-16 mid-air has generated a lot of discussion on ADS-B in the civilian world. Not that there wasn't a lot already. My question: What is the DoD going to do (if anything) with respect to installing ADS-B on military aircraft? If they are going to do it, what's the timeline? Which aircraft? I think I probably know the answer, but it's pure speculation on my part, and I figure there are at least a few knowledgable folks here that are smart on the issue. With that, I'll shut up and avoid showing ignorance. Thanks. Discuss...

This was on the front page of our wonderful Nashville newspaper today.I cant' believe these yahoos actually think the government is spraying chemicals from aircraft for experiments. I thought some of you might find it interesting as well as humorous. Wednesday, 11/29/06 Jet trails just water vapor, not sprayed chemicals, experts say By ANNE PAINE Staff Writer Blue skies have been turning white this month as airplane traffic crisscrosses the sky. The trails that jets leave behind grow, creating thin, cirrus-style clouds that aviation officials say result from water vapor from engine exhausts and in the air turning to ice crystals. At least…

I am a 2014 VSP recipient and recently started flying for a Major Airline. I could not be more happy with civilian life and love the airlines, but as a former T-6 FAIP I recall a couple guys in my squadron that were AD recalls who received a substantial bonus to return to AD to fly the T-6. Considering instructing in the T-6 was by far the most rewarding and fun experience for me in the AF, my wife is from a UPT town, and the first year or two at the Airlines come with a bitch of a commute and schedule I could think of worse things than to take a nice chunk of change to go fly T-6's again for a couple years in my wife's hometown while my seniority number continues to tick…

Is there anybody here who has applied for and/or has been selected for the White House Fellowship program? I am looking for a little more gouge then what the AF application and the website have about the program; and to see if I even have a shot when the application window comes around next summer. Thanks in advance.

  8. Good day all. The other day I was talking to a fellow at school about our proposed military careers. I'm going for AF pilot, and he's heading Army Pilot. Anyway, the discussion came back toward Battlefield, and the way that people can fly planes, etc. and a thought came to us. So here's the progression: 1: Since pilots can only fly so many hours a day, and are only on duty for a couple days at a time, does that carry over to front line deployment(i.e. bombing runs in Afghanistan, Iraq)? 2: If it does, what does one do on their time off? Here's where the Ranger stuff comes in. 3: If a pilot were Airborne, and Ranger qualified, would they be allowed to go out with the…

Dudes, anyone have any experience or advice on applying for hardship separation? I know it starts in vMPF just like any other separation app, but outside of that the afi doesn't really give info on who it gets routed to after your Wg/CC, approval time, who you need to payoff etc... Any insight or advice would be appreciated. I can provide more info on my specific situation if required. Thanks in advance. Duck

  11. All, looking for serious input here. We've all heard the gripes about DTS and how it don't do this or that and is so hard to use. GSA/DoD is looking for input on what users would like to see in the "Next Generation Travel System". RE: https://www.federalnewsradio.com/445/2889993/GSA-to-launch-14B-next-generation-travel-management-system Slated for sometime in 2017, but who knows? So here's your chance and I'll collect these inputs and send them forward. I'm looking for issues with the actual system and not external processes. A few questions to ponder for your input: 1. What is the worst thing you hate about DTS? One I hate is when you update one itiner…

  12. Police are on the search for a group of thugs/anarchists who surrounded and attacked an Air Force pilot in Olympia, Washington. The service member has not been identified but it has been confirmed that he is stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The pilot came under attack when he was riding his motorcycle through downtown Olympia on Saturday night. According to the police the protestors surrounded him when they noticed that the pilot had two Confederate flags on the back of his motorcycle. After ripping the flags from the back of his bike they beat him with a bat and smashed a glass bottle over his head. They also attempted to knock his motorcycle to the ground while sp…

  16. I am curious what the sentiment is here on BO about what's going on in this country IRT race and policing. The vast majority of what I see from our Government, the media, celebrities, civil rights leaders and academic leaders can be summed up as misleading at best. I can't think of a bigger issue that has been more divisive and more dangerous to our country than this. Discussions about racial issues have deteriorated so much, that you can't mention certain facts or ask certain questions without being labeled a racist. That is very intentional and is meant to quiet the other side of the argument. Label me as you wish, but I think there are some questions that need…

Came across this and noticed the tail number was a jet I used to be a Crew Chief on back in the mid 80's at EGUN. All I can say it was providence that it happened on the takeoff roll and not airborne which would have been a much worse outcome. https://www.omaha.com/news/military/disaster-averted-at-offutt-but-major-questions-remain/article_41bfc96a-8b03-510b-b0f1-7d7d8633cd26.html

I've been flying for going on 10 years and I love my job. But I am also beginning to look at other adventures I can have in the military before my 20 is up and I spend the rest of years flying for Delta. As it so happens I got a fishing email from the exec regarding the 17th STS ALO position. I wanted to see if anyone had any SA on this job or ALO in general and what the difference may be? I have also heard extreme degrees in job satisfaction for those who went off to be ALOs ranging from "I loved it and want to go back forever" to "Worst years of my life, to hell with the Army!". I've never considered ALO as part of my future but the 17th rings a special bell tha…

Yes, I've used the search function, and I even read all about the rules and regulations and understand the basics. What I want to know is, has anyone here used it while deployed? It seems like a good deal at first glance, but all of the stipulations they add to it sound like a pain in the ass. How easy is it to get signed up? Have you had any hassles or pay issues, either starting or at the end of participation? And it mentions that you can take out sums greater than 10k (if your account has gotten that big) in installments. But can you also elect to withdraw it in a lump sum regardless? I'm trying to decide if I should use this while deployed or invest the…
