I was fortunate enough to be in attendance for what might be the Ole Miss rebels last win this past weekend against the Citadel. Before the game there was a great 3 pass fly-by by four F16's..it was friggin awesome. Anybody know what unit they might have been from? Hotty Toddy!

Alright, so I have been studying for finals all weak (dead weak) and during this time I have gone through at least 4 pens or more. None of the pens that I have used really pleased me. I want something that looks professional. So, this is kind of an off subject question, what kind of pens do some of the other cadets or even officers use that are on these forums?

Is there a way to calculate a start point for a decel at a set rate? Example: 110knot cruise I want to slow to zero at 5 knots per second to arrive over a waypoint with zero ground speed at what point prior do I have to start my decel?

  6. Long time reader, first time poster. I'm a non-flyer and will be facing the force shaping board in July. Does anyone with experience with these types of things (firing mass amounts of young captains/Lts....smh) have any idea what factors the board will weigh most heavily when they decide whom to cut? I've done all the qeep (masters/SOS correspondence) and stratted well at the squadron, but there are only three of us in the group and the other two strat higher than me (lots of group/wing-level awards). Curious if I should see the writing on the wall and turn down this short tour assignment that just dropped in my inbox....

I lieu of the Comair crash in Kentucky, it got me thinking about the experience level of the pilots who fly for regional airlines. I am not commenting on the crew of this tragedy, since I don't know what their experience level was...but rather the requirements of the regional airlines and the lax interview requirements they grant to some of the Part 141 schools out there. Several of these Part 141 school grads get promised interviews at some regionals with significantly lower flight hours (~750 hrs TT) than a person who takes the traditional Part 61-to-CFI/II route. Not to knock the Part 141 fast-track civilian training route, but has/could this lower level of expe…

I just wanted to let anyone who cares know, I finally got my PRK waiver after 6+ years of fighting including 3 visits to Brooks (after I got my pilot slot) 6 months as a HQ staff exec 5 months as a staff weenie  and extensive sweating and praying. Now the real work begins! For those who are still fighting, never give up. I had 2 waivers approved and pulled. I had orders to Laughlin 3 times. I had 4 waivers disapproved. I applied to the AD UPT board 4 times before I was selected. I PCSed 4 times in the last 10 months (including 2 in San Antonio). I Took the AFOQT and BAT twice. I went into debit to build my piddly 163 hours, and so on. For all tho…

I forwarded on the request for donations to the family of the F-15E aircrew KIA and several people to whom I sent it forwarded to folks on their list. Somewhere prior to the sixth degree of separation, somebody shot back the following to one of my family members - "when a man dies in combat his children are guaranteed college where ever they choose, (I believe) on the US government. I personally know of twins that went to college with XXX and XXX just told me of another family as well. So, this may really have happened, but this organization and credit card giving alarms me a bit." I'm 99.69 percent positive this is BS. SGLI is all we've got and seeing as how t…

Warning Rambling Story Switch: On Ok so I'm flying my check ride the other day and I'm in the middle of circling to land and the Evaluator asks me, as I'm maneuvering, "what's the obstruction clearance limit for this type aircraft?" I'll make no excuses, I blurted out 1.5 miles, unfortunately I was flying a Cat C aircraft that day (and every other day I fly for that matter) so I f'ed that one up. D'oh! Anyway, I get home and decide to look up the values for the review I obviously need, I pull out my trusty 11-217 Vol 1 dated 3 January 2005, turn to page 348 and low and behold it tells me to "see AFMAN 11-217 Vol 3 Supplemental Information for radii of circling appro…

Heres a link to a pretty good video... unfortunately its on a liberal indy-media site that calls the attack "murder." What is funny though, is that the longer version is very incriminating but the short version (made by the host) actually looks like the attack is unwarranted. Read the comments below, its good for killing some time (no pun intended). https://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2004/01/284086.html [ 12. April 2006, 09:18: Message edited by: trailmix ]

Currently I'm in UPT approaching track select. Just looking for the correct path to fly the AC-130Us. My background includes flying over both lick-my-sack-a-stan's as a 135 nav flying low, dark, and unarmed. Just thought it might be a bit more fun being on the other end of the boom and making bad things go boom-boom. Anyone in the community that can point me in the right direction. At least toward AFSOC. Ultimately, I would like to fly the Reapers.

Hey guys, I've been reading here a while and I'm looking for a little help... I'm currently waiting to start pilot training at Vance and before I got down here my aunt gave me some of my grandfathers old Army Air Corps things. Neither she nor my dad really know much about what he did but from what they do remember I know that he was flying transport over the Burma hump. My aunt thinks that he did some of his pilot training here but some of the pictures that she gave me also show him in Muskogee. I also have his ribbon rack and he has the Distinguished Flying Cross with a bronze oak leaf cluster. Basically, I'm wondering if there is anyway to find out exactly …

Just to keep everyone abreast on these topics, the following story and pics on the Eurofighter/Typhoon in the US are making the rounds in the UK mil aviation forums I frequent. By the way, I just noticed the title of that article and the article itself conflict, but I think the title was in error, it should have read 'Eurofighter Radars Spot F/A-22s'... The answers are obvious, but the discussion is quite interesting! Just some food for thought here... Cheers! M2 [ 04. October 2005, 09:19: Message edited by: MajorMadMax ]
