Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Obama Giving Military Oath To 2 From UA By Carol Ann Alaimo, Arizona Daily Star Yousef Balooshi is starting his military career on top of the world. For an Army officer, it doesn't get much better than being sworn into service by the commander in chief. The ROTC cadet from the University of Arizona is one of two locals to whom President Obama will administer the oath of office during a visit to Tempe tonight. "It's an extreme honor. I never imagined this in my wildest dreams, said Balooshi, 22, who'll graduate from the UA with a degree in history later this week and is being commissioned as a second lieutenant. "It's pretty unbelievable," agreed fellow c…

Posted outside the video thread because some are arguing this T-38 killed a Raptor during a within visual range fight. As with other purported F-22 kills (aka F-18 HUD snaps), there is likely MUCH more to this video than meets the eye. Regardless, it will likely be used as fooder for more nonsensical arguments.

From af.mil https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123147806 Airline offers $1 military fares -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5/5/2009 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- In honor of National Military Appreciation Month, JetBlue is offering active-duty military personnel $1 fares for domestic, nonstop flights for a limited time. The flights must depart from the two JetBlue cities nearest to the nation's capital: Washington Dulles International Airport in Dulles, Va., and Richmond International Airport in Richmond, Va. The airline also will donate $15,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization that honors…

Looking for someone with any insight on buying airline tickets... I am looking to buy a 1-way ticket from Venice (or somewhere close) back to the States this Summer, but I'm having trouble finding a decent price. I don't need a round-trip ticket, and when I use the major search engines the price for a 1-way ticket, the prices are usually double what a round-trip ticket costs. Anyone on here figured out a way around this?

Oh yeah it's that time of year again... what fun times it is to live in Tornado Alley. Had a tornado touch down about 2 miles directly south of my house last night. Typically when the sirens go off we head for the basement. Well we had a bunch of friends over that day/evening and had been drinking since noon... Take a bunch of rowdy people + alcohol+confirmed tornado nearby = bunch of drunks out in the front yard scanning the skies. These pics are from a nearby farm that got hit. No damage to this guy's house but all of his five of his out buildings were destroyed (one was only 40 feet from his home). No deaths were reported thankfully.

(Being a pilot first, I'm kind of embarrassed to ask this question but...) I have to make a presentation next month at my MAJCOM for a project that I actually believe in and helped get off the ground. This project has awesome potential to save them hundreds of millions a year (not exaggerating for OPR purposes) without just pawning off all of the work and complexity on my fellow aircrew or really even support agencies. This concept is more a combination of a culture shift and integration of commercially available technology. I believe this presentation is the perfect opportunity to make an impression. By doing so, we can avoid months, possibly years of SSS and paperw…

UFB!!! For nearly 30 years, Father Louie Vitale -- a 76-year-old former Air Force navigator turned Franciscan monk and peace activist -- has traveled to the remote deserts of the Southwest to demonstrate against ... well, just about everything involving America's military. He's been thrown in jail for protesting the U.S. nuclear weapons complex, the wars in Iraq and the military's interrogation procedures, to name just a few of his more than 200 arrests. But these days, Vitale (pictured, fourth from left) and his fellow activists have a new target in the mountains and deserts north of Las Vegas: America's fleet of killer drones. "We've been out there in that very de…

Here is a question for all of you Dyess types. My wife and I are moving there soon and will be buying a house. The one we are purchasing has 1 1/2 acres of land and it is all undeveloped. There is no grass, fence, trees, or anything, it is all Texas dirt and weeds/rocks. Being from the Pacific NW I am used to alot of rain and alot of green. I am hearing that if I sod/hydro-mulch 1 1/2 acres it may all die because of failure to water. Whether it is from no rain in the summer or "water rationing" rules. My question is how successful have guys been at maintaining a nice healthy yard? How about a vegetable garden or orchard? What grows out there? Are the water table…

This is primarly aimed at the guard dudes.. Just recently I was hired by Lockheed as an engineering manager on the JSF..(which I am fukin stoked about, and dont want to "burn any bridges")with a start date of april 20. They know im in the guard, but what they dont know is that I just got selected for a pilot slot. I am not going to turn down the UPT slot. I have heard dudes saying "get your foot in the door then tell them your going to pilot training, and they will let you come back" My dates for AMS and UPT havent come out yet so im thinkin I have at least 6 months or so to work with lockheed. Anyone been through a similar situation?? I heard something about a reli…

Edited by a prominent AQ sympathiser in North Carolina, and will no doubt be a big hit with Johnny Taliban and his mates: Jihad Recollections - Issue 1 Issue 1 contains such gems as: 'Staying in Shape Without Weights' (ideal for those Mujahadeen who don't have time to visit the gym), and 'Four Practical Steps to Expand the Global Jihad' (for all those extremists who want to kill the unbelievers, but aren't quite sure how to go about it). Sounds awesome!

From Fox News.com The Obama administration has asked the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff to cut the Pentagon's budget request for the fiscal year 2010 by more than 10 percent -- about $55 billion -- a senior U.S. defense official tells FOX News. Last year's defense budget was $512 billion. Service chiefs and planners will be spending the weekend "burning the midnight oil" looking at ways to cut the budget -- looking especially at weapons programs, the defense official said. Some overall budget figures are expected to be announced Monday. Obama met Friday at the White House with a small group of military advisers, including Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the…

Got this from a history buff pal of mine. Enjoy! ******************* This from history buff Col D. G. Swinford, USMC, Ret. You have to dig deep for facts like these: 1. The first German serviceman killed in WW II was killed by the Japanese ( China , 1937), the first American serviceman killed was killed by the Russians ( Finland 1940); highest ranking American killed was Lt Gen Lesley McNair, killed by the US Army Air Corps. So much for allies. 2. The youngest US serviceman was 12 year old Calvin Graham, USN. He was wounded and given a Dishonorable Discharge for lying about his age. His benefits were later restored by act of Congress. 3. At the t…

I'm genuinely astounded; the IRS really does seem to cover every eventuality. Alternatively I'm just disturbed that there must have been someone who considered their taxation practicalities whilst their child was kidnapped to result in this eventuality being covered. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc357.html
