Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I was doing a little reading today and came across this movie which comes out on the 4th. https://youtube.com/watch?v=03e56cVXajY Looks promising... and somewhat accurate. It has skyraiders so I guess that makes up for any possible shortcommings! Thought I'd share it with those interested

We all like to think we'd go back to the burning jet three times to carry people out and check for survivors, leaving ten seconds before the CFT explodes. But Rich actually did it. Nice work! https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2010/12/airforce-reservist-earns-airmans-medal-121010w/

Sorry to be a bit sappy on a Friday, but for those that question the newer generations and the future of this country I present the following...maybe there is hope.

After graduating UPT, all the IPs started to treat newly-graduated studs differently... as in, like adults. I thought this was part of a trend towards getting just a few props for running the gauntlet, but as I progress through the schoolhouse it has become apparent that the UPT-type IP/stud mentality is the modus operandi. I'm not looking to be considered a peer with dudes who have been flying the jet for 1000 hours, but just a little credit for not being a dumbass would be nice. Rather than make this thread just about me, what are everyone elses' experiences with finally being accepted into the brotherhood as a wing/co/scheduling b*tch. How did you overcome as a…

Interesting article... But if it happens then the law that prohibits women from being drafted will have to be repealed. It does not make sense that females would be excluded from having to serve. I understand not letting them in certain career fields, but those are few and far between and there are plenty of other jobs they can fufill. Hasn't that been proven already? Cheers! M2

For you retirees... Your thoughts on wearing the Mess Dress at formal events. I'll have 4-5 events in 2016 where this will matter. 1. Military graduation where graduates will wear their Service Dress: would you wear yours? 2. Formal dinner event where you will see a lot of tuxedos, but that will also have active duty military in mess dress. Which will you wear? I've become partial to the civilian tux recently (and will likely wear that), but am curious what the rest of you do. You're not a retiree? Then keep your opinions to yourself, junior, and get the hell off of my lawn.

So here's a question: for the past few years the idea of retirement reform has been in play, with the caveat that anybody on active duty gets grandfathered (if they wish) in the current 20-year pension system. With both the HASC and SASC bills talking about changing some version of matching TSP contributions it looks like the writing's on the wall that within the next few years the traditional retirement won't be around for new accessions. So the question is, for individuals currently on active duty who transition to a Guard/Reserve component after any retirement legislation has been passed, can they stay in the current ARC retirement system (draw a pension at 60 ye…

This almost belongs in the WTF thread because it is so out of character for our fearless leaders- the Air Force is actually fixing something it messed up almost a decade ago. I am both impressed and scared this will be messed up somehow. From the AF Force development Facebook page: SQUADRON SUPPORT--HELP IS ON THE WAY: As you may be aware, the Air Force is continually looking at how to best provide support to our commanders and Airmen. Accordingly, our efforts led us to move additional support back to the squadron level in the form of Unit Orderly Rooms. When fully implemented, a typical squadron will have support staff with at least one personnel specia…

From an undisclosed secret comm facility somewhere in the NCR: To: All HAF customers Recently, there has been buzz (bzzzzzzzzzzzz) concerning new DOD guidance allowing USB removable media devices (i.e., thumb drives) back into the network environment. The Air Force is studying the rules and information contained in the guidance regarding mandatory training, accountability, documentation, checks, auditing, and other constraints. For now, the existing policy stands: Personnel cannot use thumb drives on the HAF network. AFSPC is diligently working with the communications experts from 24th Air Force and SAF/XC staff to develop new standardized policies, procedures a…

https://www.afforums.com/index.php?threads/rex-the-engineer.15323/ This stuff is pure gold. Here's a sample: THE ADVENTURES OF REX THE WONDER ENGINEER: REX and the BREAKAWAY It's a bold, bright sunny day out on AR 8A-B. The KC-10 and crew are finishing up their 3rd hour of straight receiver AR, hurtling around the two short tracks like it's a ing NASCAR oval, with no passing allowed. Rex, the Wonder Engineer, is on his 7th local in two weeks, and his nineteenth hour of receiver AR this month. Leading this perverted race is a wore-out E model, with the pride of the Raggedy-Ass Militia as crew. Rex stirs slowly from a sound sleep as Joe, the infamou…

This is hilarious, my wife is crushed by the news; but I am laughing my ass off! Latin singer Ricky Martin says he is gay What's great for us guys is that when a hot woman announces she's a lesbo, it's totally cool! For example: I don't care if Ellen nailed it before me, I still would!

Yesterday a pilot and his ATAC F-21 Kfir were lost in a crash at NAS Fallon, Nevada. The pilot was Carroll LeFon, a retired Navy Captain, fighter pilot, and military blogger - better known by his "nom de plume" - Neptunus Lex. I've read his blog for years, and had corresponded with him several times. Naval Aviation may have never had a better friend. Godspeed, Lex... From https://www.neptunuslex.com/

Not sure this belongs here, but then again, where better than the Squadron Bar - whether an official one, or at your home? Via Christina Olds on Facebook: How many pilots know that Robin Olds was also a terrific artist? My dad humorously doodled and sketched his way through classes, briefings and meetings during his entire career. People have often asked me to share his drawings and I have finally put a few of them on my artist site at Fine Art America. Here are only a handful out of the more than 500 he left with us. So, if you want just a notecard or a big poster for your Squadron Ops room, have fun looking at these. I love his irreverent and usually politically incorr…
