Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

This is primarly aimed at the guard dudes.. Just recently I was hired by Lockheed as an engineering manager on the JSF..(which I am fukin stoked about, and dont want to "burn any bridges")with a start date of april 20. They know im in the guard, but what they dont know is that I just got selected for a pilot slot. I am not going to turn down the UPT slot. I have heard dudes saying "get your foot in the door then tell them your going to pilot training, and they will let you come back" My dates for AMS and UPT havent come out yet so im thinkin I have at least 6 months or so to work with lockheed. Anyone been through a similar situation?? I heard something about a reli…

Sad story. Weather at the time was winds calm 1/8-1/4 SM vis and VV001. They hit high tension power lines estimated to be ~100' AGL. Parts of the a/c crashed into a daycare and some other things...no one on the ground injured fortunately. Knocked out power for the entire city pretty much all day. No idea what would possess someone to t/o with that weather in a Cessna 310. Are civilian pilots even required to meet IFR climb gradients OEI? Three Die; Plane Crashes In East Palo Alto Neighborhood

@Zero I’ve been meaning to ask what became of The Crate. I learned quite a bit from your stories and drawings back in my cadet days - the Sandy upgrade ones were some of my favorites.

Anybody on this board besides me into skydiving? I've got an RV reserved in Phoenix on 25 April to head down to the Rocky Point, Mexico Boogie being put on by Skydive Arizona. Supposedly a helluva good time. They are taking their Twin Otter down, there's great beaches, dune buggy rentals, fishing and of course bars. Looking for anyone who wants to pitch in on the RV. And help me figure out how to drive it....

I have been sitting on some savings for about a year now, which has been in a high-yield savings account up to this point. My son is now 2.5 years old, and it's time to stop being lazy and get this money into an investment that will earn more than 3%. I've read about several options, including 529 plans, Coverdell educational IRAs, and pre-paid tuition. I'm looking to retain control of the funds and also ensure that I can get at them in the event he gets a scholarship, academy, or doesn't go to college. I don't manage money for a living, so any advice is appreciated!

‘You are the reason I drink’ — Airmen bid adieu to decrepit aircraft dubbed ‘Lucifer’s Chariot’ “four terrible and terrifying years that aged me well beyond where I should be.” “You are the reason I live to forget.” “582, you’re a real nasty lady,” said Markham. “I had some great memories, but most of them involved getting off the aircraft and sprinting away from you.”

They should, there are more fucking Muslims in France then there are French! But as much as I hate to say it, maybe we can learn something from the French...we can start by pulling our heads out our asses when it comes to putting civil liberties blindly ahead of domestic security. It is not that I am against the former, it is just that no one seems to realize that if you are truly innocent, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to domestic surveillance targeting potential terrorists. I would gladly sacrifice a few of my personal liberties for the greater good of this country...I've already done that my entire adult life! Cheers! M2

SpaceX is suing to be considered along with ULA, the Boeing/Lockheed venture, to launch "national security" satellites into space. SpaceX is claiming to be able to launch for $300 million less than the current contract which was written on a non-competitive basis. This is the kinda thing I've been waiting for, though not sure how successful they're going to be since they're not even certified yet. Given the weight that the current contract owners have, success is unlikely in this first go around. However, note that - Perhaps there's some good to come of it. https://io9.com/elon-musk-spacex-will-file-suit-against-the-u-s-gover-1568027055 the site S…

From CNN.com Blink-182's Barker critically injured in plane crash (CNN) -- A man who came across a fiery jet crash saw former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and disc jockey Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein trying to extinguish the flames on their bodies by ripping off their clothing. "We turned to the jet to try and see if there was anything we could do, but immediately, there was nothing anyone could do," William Owens told CNN affiliate WIS in Columbia, South Carolina. "I felt ill or sick to think that these lives were snuffed out at that point." The two men were in critical condition with extensive burns Saturday. The crash killed four other people on board, authori…

Anyone here interested in getting a Baseops fantasy football league going this year? If so, I set up a private league over at ESPN. I was able to log in while deployed @ Dhafra, so you should be able to access your lineup in the AOR...that is unless you're @ the Deid (most likely). There's room for a total of 10 teams, and its free. Here's the link: Fantasy Foosball 08 League name: Baseops Password: gucci

https://www.npr.org/2017/12/15/570810197/u-s-army-green-berets-accused-from-within-of-lowering-standards An unnamed SFQC cadre member wrote a letter talking about how the culture at the SFQC has changed to drive graduation numbers up instead of getting the right guy for the job. Pretty damning accusations that sound very similar to a lot of the complaints I hear from the UPT bros. I think the author(s) raise interesting points with not too much in the way of emotional grandstanding. Also, the response from the 2 Star is interesting in his defense of treating the objective measurements as diagnostics and not pass/fail events. Thoughts?

https://youtu.be/UUFO8AGMwic Video of the colonel being hounded by a flat earther creep. The colonel shows remarkable restraint (IMHO) until the creep just poked him too long and the intrepid colonel decks the SOB. This will warm the cockles of your heart. Hats off to the colonel!!! He's 74, by the way.
