Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

It's a serious subject, obviously, and there have been some high-profile cases involving airline pilots in the last few years Here's a good story on when "shit got real" in the airline industry. https://www.airspacemag.com/flight-today/recovery-deep-stall-180974455/

The Flying Videos thread seems to have disappeared. It's not turning up in the search results or in my previous posts when I look at my profile (I've posted in there before). Please excuse me if I'm wrong. Anyway, just stumbled upon this today and wanted to share it with you all. One of the best Hawg video's I've seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBIORL_0h-8

During the fall of Saigon, one Vietnamese family in a helicopter, low on fuel, gets rescued by a US Navy ship, the USS Kirk. The Kirk goes on to rescue 20,000-30,000 (estimated) refugees. All of this was forgotten until recently. I can't imagine being so desperate that I would drop my children out of a flying helicopter. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129554870

https://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100211/ap_on_re_us/us_obit_wilson Certainly an interesting character, and who knows where we'd be with Afghanistan if more people listened to his point of view after the Soviet-Afghan War. RIP.

Was wasting some time on Ebay and found some old SAC cufflinks, thought one of the older guys might be interested. P.S I am in no way affiliated with this sale, just thought somebody would would like 'em. https://cgi.ebay.com/VTG-14-KT-Gold-Olay-Am...id=p3286.c0.m14

So it's been banned at numerous colleges. It's been banned for sale at Hurlburt. A member of a MX squadron on base drank two, and woke up in jail the next day. Apparently he had consumed two, drove his car from the dorms to Destin, got naked and didn't remember a thing. With an alcohol content equal to five beers and the caffeine that equals a couple cups of coffee I am pretty interested, anyone out there try this stuff?

https://www.militaryonesource.com/MOS/FindInformation/Category/MilitarySpouseCareerAdvancementAccounts.aspx I'm not sure how well-known this program is, but I just found out about it while trying to figure out how to pay for my wife's school. The program will pay a total of $6000 towards your spouses education. There are some restrictions as to what the degree has to be in, but my wife is going to be a teacher and this program is going to pay for a large chunk of it.

With all of the: "do more with less" which gave rise to DTS and AROWS... a friend and I came up with a new mobile app to take some of the suck out of tracking your pay. It's called "MilPay Tracker" and it’s currently available FREE for iOS and Android (see links below). Security: It was first on our minds too- that's why there is no signup required, no user accounts and no central data server. All data is pushed one way via the app store and the events you log are stored locally on your device. We don't ask for ANY PII and don't want to know who/where you are. TDY Tracker: The app has CONUS/OCONUS lodging and perdiem tables for the entire world- and it works off …

Recently I've come across some collegiate level education that's free online. This has potential to be pretty beneficial if you're prepping to go to school full time or if you're just looking to get ahead of the curve. The Educational Portal offers credit for the courses taken upon completion of a proficiency exam. I'm not sure of all the details, but if you're seeking an undergraduate degree, it seems to be a pretty good deal. Or you can always brush up on your Algebra in order to talk trash to your kid's 7th grade teacher. Educational Portal MIT also has some stuff. I haven't sifted through much of it, but it looks valuable. MIT Open Courseware If an…

Now I find myself faced with the dilemma of voting in favor of my own pocketbook or with actual principles. As much as I love money though I think I'm going to have to actually stick to my own principles here and not vote to pay myself. For those who aren't aware there is a proposed amendment to the state constitution in Ohio on the ballot this November, Issue 1. This amendment would authorize the state to issue up to $200MM of bonds to fund payments to any veterans of the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan or Iraq. The payments would be $100/month not to exceed $1,000 for anybody who served in the actual conflicts or $50/month not to exceed $500 for veterans who served elsewh…

Possibly coming to the US. If big enough it would bring the entire country to a stand still. Big cities would be hit the hardest. I don't think a lot of people realize that literally everything, everything, no matter what it is, was brought in at some point on a truck. I support this protest as a message to the "ruling class" as a reminder who they are supposed to be working for.

How common is it for squadrons to have Friday patches? Is this a thing of the past, or is the "tradition" carried on still today? Our sq currently does not have anything of the sort, but I'd like to get something started. I know it's not supposed to be "official", so how does one go about "unofficially" getting the ball rolling on such a visible issue? Anyone ever faced the same issues? Does your sq have a friday patch? If so, is it recognized by leadership? Do you wear it out of the sq, off base, etc.? Many thanks!

Oh yeah it's that time of year again... what fun times it is to live in Tornado Alley. Had a tornado touch down about 2 miles directly south of my house last night. Typically when the sirens go off we head for the basement. Well we had a bunch of friends over that day/evening and had been drinking since noon... Take a bunch of rowdy people + alcohol+confirmed tornado nearby = bunch of drunks out in the front yard scanning the skies. These pics are from a nearby farm that got hit. No damage to this guy's house but all of his five of his out buildings were destroyed (one was only 40 feet from his home). No deaths were reported thankfully.
