Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

23 August 2014 will mark the 60th Anniversary of our mighty C-130 Hercules. Lockheed says they have a website to collect your Herk stories. I propose that if anyone has any Herk stories, post a few of them here. 10% Rule in effect unless your story starts with "This ain't no shit." Link to story with more links: C-130 Anniversary If someone doesn't like a story, too bad, piss off and go hate elsewhere. Out Edit, cause I ain't known for spellin months right.

I've been recently reading a lot about the DoD's response to aviation (and other class A) accidents. I read the original book on the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) by the US Navy creators Doc Wiegmann and Shappell. Basically, the book contends: 1. Aviation has gotten super safe, but accidents still happen from time to time. 2. When accidents do happen, they are predominantly caused by human factors (~70-80% of the time). 3. It is important for the safety process and future accident prevention to identify specific human factors and the standardized taxonomy that should be used is the HFACS framework. I completed this resea…

I am a total space geek and have been reading up on the upcoming mission back to the moon. There is some SERIOUS turmoil in the community over the decisions that have been made. The orbital mechanics are VERY different and is many ways, more risky mainly because the ARTEMIS does not have enough thrust (Delta V), to conduct the mission the same way as Apollo using a low lunar orbit. Instead, they will use a near-rectilinear halo orbit (NHRO), which means there will be long periods that if something happens on the surface, they will have to wait for the return vehicle to come back in range. Apollo Flight Plans ARTEMIS Flight Plans N…

You've probably seen the original 'Chuck Norris' list - well here are some new ones straight from the source document for all you Tactics guys. Excerpt from CNTTP 3-69 (Chuck Norris Tactics, Techniques and Procedures) (UNCLASS) 1) Chuck Norris executes a banzai gameplan regardless of awareness and AMR. Short-skate tactics are for the weak. 2) Chuck Norris is always in the “advantageous element.” 3) Chuck’s commit criteria is JFS Start. Mr. Norris doesn’t need avionics or a weapons system to be lethal. 4) Chuck Norris once had a wingman call a KIO for a PTO shaft failure. Chuck said he was “rejoining chase” and subsequently gunned the guy for being …

I want something to use in the car in the house and in a boom box for camping, etc... easily moved inbetween. My truck has an mp3 player port on the front of the stereo (like one of those headphone jacks)... I have never ever even looked at satellite radio before - I don't know how much they cost or which service is better. Also I have no clue who makes the best equipment for the stuff I want to do. I did hear that they are both trying to merge into one company... Please opine

Anyone see that Ford F-150 commercial this last Sunday? They supposedly dropped a truck out the back of a Herc attached to a bunch of cables and the truck proceeded to stop the aircraft. At first I was thought no f'ing way that would ever happen, but then I thought of all the false advertisement chit that could nail Ford if it wasn't true -- I still think there is NO way the AF would agree to that, maybe I'll bring up the lawsuit... True or not, I figured this would be a good time to hear some cool stories of other sweet stuff you crusty old guys have done.

So I am kinda bored and saw this on foxnews.com https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,318932,00.html Hannah Montana Concert Winner Lied in Essay Describing Father's Death in Iraq Saturday , December 29, 2007 ADVERTISEMENT GARLAND, Texas — An essay that won a 6-year-old girl four tickets to a Hannah Montana concert began with the powerful line: "My daddy died this year in Iraq." While gripping, it was not true — and now the girl may lose her tickets after her mom acknowledged to contest organizers it was all a lie. The sponsor of the contest was Club Libby Lu, a Chicago-based store that sells clothes, accessories and games intended for young girl…

Last night while atop a 5 story building over looking downtown Wilmington, NC, I was outside holding the lady (because its December and its cold as fu(king Alaska...) We were checking out the view and looking at the stars... I know... Now...DT Wilmington is about 10 miles from the airport, so there is lots of traffic that fly right over, but ILM is class D and the tower closes at 11. this was 1:52 a.m. we're looking up an from the NW to SE fast as hell was a triangular uh...thing...with an orange glow on each corner. as it passed over, it disappeared. Who has switched from iPhone to Android lately? I’m thinking of making the jump to a Samsung b/c they just seem better. I get it, no iMessage, but who really pays for texts anymore. Specifically the Samsung S9+, maybe the Pixel 2 or 3. The next question will be stock Android apps or the Samsung skinned ones? Apple just seems so limiting, thoughts?

Looks like a new naval aviation movie is in the pipeline called "Speed and Angels" ...its a full length documentary and follows two pilots from flight school all the way to their first combat deployment... https://www.umlautfilms.com/site/jess_playe...eed_angels.html Jay's quote is classic :D "whoever thought up the idea of us landing on boats at night is an ASSHOLE...I HATE him" [ 25. On www.airforce.com there's a series of recruitment video's entitled "Do Something Amazing." Turn up the volume on your speakers and click this link: Eagle pilot curses out boom operator. It's a video clip of an F-15C getting some gas and if you listen closely you'll hear the pilot on hot mic saying "How about you make contact DIPSH*T!!!" Another funny link is this one: Propeller engines?. Apparently the TF-34's on the Warthog sound just like the P-51. Maybe the Air Force should "do something amazing" and have someone QC their website. Enjoy, HOSS

Everyone needs raise a glass for ClearedHot, who is celebrating a major milestone in his career today! Those who know him know what I am talking about, and the rest of you will just have to take my word for it; but it is a substantial achievement for any Air Force officer and I can think of no one more worthy than CH! CH, I wish I could have been there to celebrate with you, but my schedule just wouldn’t allow it. But I will toast your accomplishment this evening in line with Air Force traditions! Cheers! M2

Hey folks. I am a regular poster on here, but I am hiding my identity (though the moderators could figure it out...please dont!) to keep those who would seek to get dirt on me from doing it! Oh ya, they are out there. Anyway, long story short, I am exploring a run for Congress...I am a guard pilot and can actually do that! I wanted to tell you all, that if I am elected (its a 2010 race) I fully plan to sit down with the CSAF and discuss much of what we have talked about here...as a Congressman. Its still a ways off, but just wanted to let you all know that. Im not your typical politician...though inheriting 50% of the country as an enemy isnt my idea of awesom…

Here's a story on Obama's Memorial Day remarks: Seems the press and the president have gotten Memorial Day confused with Veteran's Day. I thought Memorial Day was to honor those who DIED while serving the country, and Veteran's Day honored those who served. Apparently I was wrong? Seems this speech was designed to suck up to vet groups (and thus increase popularity among a group that particularly doesn't support him)...I guess honoring the dead guys doesn't matter because they don't vote... Was that a cheap shot?
