Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Hi all, I'm headed to UPT in April, and want to buy my fiancée a new car to replace her 2004 Saturn Lemon as soon as it fits the budget. She'll be commissioning when she's out of law school in a year, and I want to give her something that will make her feel good and serve her well over our first few PCS's--probably a middle-of-the-market crossover. I hope to fly C-17s, and as a JAG, it's likely that she'll be stationed at the same bases as me. (The following question is assuming that everything goes according to plan and understands that nothing is guaranteed. Humor me.) She's from Texas, so she isn't experienced with driving in winter weather. (And, well, she isn't…

Just curious as to what some of you find interesting non rated career fields to be? In other words, if you weren't a rated guy, what would you have done or what would you be? I think intel is at the top of my non rated list, but I'd like to learn some more about other AFSCs. I have been reading on the afpc site for those wondering. ready, go

Here is a link from a dude broadcasting live from the eye of the hurricane. He is in a truck chasing the storm...the best part, he is a total surfer dude and sounds just like Jeff Spicolli...I have not laughed this hard in a long time.

I don't want to make this part of the thread discussing the loss of the fine gentleman who died during the L-39 portion of the Quad City airshow. Here's my question(s): It's 2012. We no longer have to convince the public that our Hisso-powered JN-4's are safe for them to ride in at the state fair. While I'm all for freedom and entertainment and cool airplanes flying close to the ground, Hasn't this gone too far? Haven't too many good people died just so Ma and Pa Kettle can be entertained? Is one human life - or even an airframe - worth ten thousand snap rolls at ten feet? Is the military's funding in danger of being cut just because a couple of thousand peopl…

We have a stash of books to 'gift' any Air Force squadrons that want to make a quick buck. Might help buy a few kegs of beer for the squadron bar. Time is of essence. Have to shift the books before the second week of Feb. Please see post 13 below for stock levels and post 15 below for instructions. Only cost to you is shipping, which is approx. $1 per book. That can be paid in US $ to my business partner Col (ret) Doug "Disco" Dildy (ex-Eagle driver). Payment details will be sent once the books have arrived with you, so it's a no risk deal. Thanks.

Okay Fellas, I UTFSF but couldn't find what I was looking for. The wife and I are going to Germany in about two weeks. My wife's twin sister is over there TDY at Ramstein so we are using that as an excuse to go. We are taking my father-in-law with us and he has never been to Germany so I really want to show him a good time. He's in good shape so getting around isn't a problem. He's cool, likes beer, and is up for about anything. Looking for suggestions on things to do. I'd really like to find some "off the beaten path"/ "best kept secret" places if anyone has suggestions for those as well. I've been to Trip Advisor looking and it's almost overwhelming and you have to pi…

So I’ve tried TSP customer service, DFAS and myPers and nobody can explain to me how to allocate past the $20,500 for 2022. I don’t even know how many months I need to be overseas to max it, or if it’s prorated depending on how many months you spend overseas in a calendar year. Has anyone done this and if so how much can I contribute and how many months do I need to be overseas? What happens if I exceed the limits? Once I max the Roth TSP do I need to then reallocate into the traditional TSP or if I go a penny over the 20,500 allotment does it lock it out the traditional TSP? after hours on the phone I have no answers.

Saw an IG meme summarizing a recent event at Littlerock. Sounds like leadership was down on their hands and knees pleading for pilots to stay and not go to the airlines. Anyone that was there have first hand intel? It’s a glorious event if true.

This should be a big story in the coming weeks. Should be fun to watch the widespread panic intensify if the Space dudes calculate this thing taking aim at CONUS. Oh yeah, FEMA may get involved sez the article. Can't wait for the inevitable questions of "Why wasn't FEMA prepared for this?" or "How can China shoot a Sat in Space and we can't?" Didn't we use to have an ASAT program with F-15 ? Star Wars comes to mind. Ahh the good ole days. ----------------------------------------------------- By LOLITA C. BALDOR, Associated Press Writer Tue Jan 29, 6:54 PM ET WASHINGTON - The U.S. military is developing contingency plans to deal with the possibil…

So just for fun (and without getting into anyone's gambling habits) whats everyone's pick for the game today? With more spygate stuff coming out this week, part of me says the Pats will come in and win by 4 scores. But I think I'd have to take the Giants to cover the 12 point spread. Either way, not flying tomorrow so its time to enjoy things tonight. When the hell are they going to move something that has reached national holiday status to Saturday night?

I was wondering since PJs and pilots probably have the highest adrenaline jobs in the military, and they're related in that way, have any of you current pilots ever considered PJ (before commissioning)? I know a lot of guys have tunnel vision about flying (not in a negative way) but maybe some of you found some interest in pararescue when you were in college or even before. Just food for thought.

I've considered what I could do personally in the event this happens and have come up with a few palatable options but I've started to consider trying to roll a fair amount of liquid savings in dollars to a foreign currency in the event the worst happens. Besides this and maybe putting it into my mortgage, buying gold/silver, or purchasing property; I can't think of any other way to protect this part of my investments. Has anyone else come up with any ideas if they (take your pick on whom to blame) trigger a default?

Hi everyone, just trying to find common ground with other people who may be in the same struggle as I am. 2020 has been a challenge—mentally, emotionally, financially, with my marriage, at work, feeling like the US country is being ripped apart before our very eyes and feeling the weight of all of it. I started submitting UPT applications Jan of 2020 and I put so much pressure on myself to get picked up for a UPT position because I got the flying bug, was dealing with extreme boredom at work with my engineering job, feeling unmotivated and not challenged, and wanting the excitement, community and team mindedness of being in the military and in a flying squadron. I know …

Looking at post-USAF retirement spots. St George or Kanab look awesome, asking if anyone has spent time at either place? No, I am not basing my decision on any info gathered here, but a few data points will be useful as I can't get out there for several more months to see for myself. Anyone been there?
