waveshaper 201
There seems to be some new info leaking out this PM about some of the details leading up to the firing of the TR Capt. 1. "Sailors running nuclear reactors were first to catch coronavirus on aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt" "The first US Navy sailors to fall ill aboard the US Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt were those running the nuclear reactors." "The Navy first announced that three crew members aboard the aircraft carrier had tested positive for the coronavirus on March 24, and that initial outbreak reportedly started in the reactor department." "While details are limited, an outbreak among the reactor crew could easily be considered a worst-case scenario, as losses in the reactor department could put the ship out of commission because it would fail to have the required number of technicians or operators to safely run both reactors at sea." https://www.businessinsider.com/aircraft-carrier-coronavirus-outbreak-hit-reactor-crew-first-2020-4 2. "Modly was not the only Navy official vexed by the circumstances. Adm. Robert Burke, the vice chief of naval operations, reportedly told the ship's senior medical officer that they failed as a leader, two crew members told The Times." https://www.businessinsider.com/modly-angry-at-capt-brett-crozier-send-off-videos-online-2020-4 3. "Navy officers on a coronavirus-hit aircraft carrier wanted to sign a dire letter about the outbreak, but the ship's captain wouldn't let them" "Senior officers aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier reeling from a coronavirus outbreak offered to sign a revealing letter about the dire situation, only to be denied by the ship's commander, Capt. Brett Crozier." "Crozier feared for their careers and denied their request, according to The New York Times." https://www.businessinsider.com/navy-officers-brett-crozier-wanted-to-sign-letter-2020-

torqued 670
9 hours ago, Guardian said: Interpretation? I don't know shit about shit, but here's my valuable interpretation: The reactor crew is highly trained, specialized, and not easy to replace. As they began to get sick and incapacitated with the virus, the Navy had a 5 billion dollar aircraft carrier with a nuclear reactor potentially stuck in the middle of the Pacific that no one else was qualified to operate. The ship medical staff estimated there would be 50 deaths on the ship if they didn't quarantine/evacuate. The senior officers aboard the ship all conferred and wanted to sign the letter to the Navy leadership, but were denied by Crozier and he took all the responsibility .

China already has so much egg from this whole fiasco I'm not sure anyone on the world gives a fuck that they can launch a carrier right now.

StoleIt 372
I mean, Russia tried to flex with their carrier participating in operations over Syria...and how did that work out for them? Clever timing for China to run this...but is anyone actually scared of their floating casino?

mp5g 45
I think we all knew more news would continue to be unearthed the longer time went on, but this was an interesting facet: The email from Capt. Brett Crozier was sent to three admirals and copied to seven other captains, according to a copy obtained by the Post, contradicting former acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly’s assertion it was sent to “20 or 30” people. https://thehill.com/policy/defense/493192-fired-captain-sent-memo-to-fewer-people-than-former-navy-head-alleged-report

FltDoc 1
The ones that make the news may only be the tip of the iceberg. Ever catch one that was kept quiet and just sort of happened?

Sprkt69 205
I’ve seen multiple instances where a wing king tried to fire some group commanders only to be told no by the numbered AF commander. The firings that I’ve seen kept quiet were due to infidelity (2 married squadron commanders).
