  1. Disagree... here at Vance we lost two guys in my class for hooking too many rides. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  2. Got a picture of the patch by chance? Couldn’t find it in google. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  3. Nah dude the real issue was having to blouse the pants out of the aircraft but un-blouse while flying. Dumbest rule ever in the history of army aviation. Plenty of army bros would give their left nut to wear a bag and feel like a real pilot for a day. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  4. You should join the Army and fly for those bros. They need a 2 piece hero over there. Nothing wrong with liking them, but Ive encounter more people that prefer the bag over the 2 piece outside of combat ops. I hate the two piece and love wearing the bag. I don’t see how wearing the bag vs the 2 piece is that much of a ass pain. All the sweaty / smelly issues I’ve also encountered with the 2 piece. Being comfortable is important and good for the bros that like it more than the bag. Unfortunately, I can see the bag being phased out not because of comfortability or because it makes sense. It will be phased out because some command sgt major out there is losing sleep over having a force of airman crews operating out of uniform uniformity.
  5. @FDNYOldGuy an inspiration to us ole guys chasing wings. Recruiters will only go so far. Like stated above, it’s the pilots, chief pilot and squadron/wing CC that will push for your waiver... whatever that might be. If they like ya, they will fight for ya and back you up with whatever is needed. Keep educating yourself on the process. It’s easier to have conversations with commanders when your familiar with the process and understand what needs to happen to get from point A to B. Visit the unit often. Be a good bro. Show both pilots and crew dawgs that your a cool dude and fit the aircraft lifestyle and community and you shouldn’t have an issue getting hired.... Good luck. Cheers
  6. One of the best shows to watch while drinking at the squadron bar is a CSO and a NAV arguing about who was the most important/toughest/coolest job between the two. And how the other guy couldn’t handle it... Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  7. Very limited options out there... use the link below and search for HH60 squadrons. https://bogidope.com/squadron-airline-map/ Or go Army Guard, revert to a warrant, tell war stories to the young guys while drinking coffee. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  8. The flight was about 12 studs. There have been guard and reserve bros in Banzai as well. Half of the other bros got Toners Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  9. Badgers are alive and well Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  10. Cheers to them! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  11. Cant keep seniority if you go AD. You can't lose seniority as well in the Guard/Reserves if you pick up an AGR job or TECH job after school.
  12. Is this the future? No boom operators in that back? https://www.businessinsider.com/airbus-a330-achieves-first-aerial-refueling-beats-boeing-2020-4
  13. Im at vance now and have a bunch of bros Banzai. It’s a bit different from the regular syllabus flow. You’ll still hit all major milestone but in different order. Also the banzai bros are heavy into the VR. Theres talk of making one of the upcoming banzai flights execute 2.5 syllabus as a test run for before its put out to the rest of the school houses. Either way be a good bro and show up with a good attitude and you’ll be fine. Get your mind right to fly lots and lots of VR. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  14. I hear 2.5 will be bringing back or introducing out and back SOLOs during T6s. Not enough SOLOs in the current syllabus (only 2 sorties). It builds confidence and also allows the STUD to step outside of the comfortable IP bubble... because when your flying alone, your never wrong! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  15. Age limit was bumped up to 33. There are a couple of airline bros in my class that left the airlines for UPT guard slots. Still building seniority while in training. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  16. What about the bros flying the C-123 back in the ‘nam days that downed a helo by throwing a bunch of cargo strap chains above the rotor system??? Heavy bros have a dog in the fight too Lol it was one of the stories in “flying through midnight” by John Halliday. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  17. Yes... a stein LOL. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  18. Hoping to get some recommendations. I am currently at VANCE UPT, in the market for some class gifts and what not. Looking for some pointers (other than just going on google) for any of the following items: -Clay beer mugs with our class patch on it. -Shirts / hoodies -Bottle Openers -Scarfs Thanks! Cheers
  19. Civil engineering guy here. It’s pretty much a myth for sure but I always encounter folks that thought having an engineer degree would make you stand out. If you can make it thru engineering, you can make it thru UPT it’s the general consensus. I for one like to think it’s all about work ethic and “how much do you want it”. Had plenty of good bros in engineering that were pretty smart, but lazy. Made A+ on exams but would get F’s on group work type stuff. Had other bros that could not perform during exams, but would nevertheless stay up all night trying to figure it out. I was one of those all nighter dudes with shitty grades. I think engineering has help me in having an excuse for shitty grades in college. Graduated with a 2.6 but “it was engineering... so that’s okay” it’s the response I usually get. Don’t let other folks persuade ya into engineering because it might help your chances. Just like aviation, engineering is not for everybody. Also I am sure every major out there will come with its own set of challenges to overcome. Even sailing ;-) Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  20. Currently watching it. Pretty crazy because China was just added to the UN human rights council. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  21. Wouldn’t count of fallouts bros. We were told yesterday that no new classes are starting at our base. Rumor for new arrivals with Orders In hand is to still in process but don’t expect to start anytime soon. Phase progression once complete is being halted as well. I have a bro that tracked 38s and was T6 complete last week. He was told to expect NOT to start phase 3 anytime soon. Not sure if it’s the same deal with all the other UPT bases. These are Crazy times at UPT bros. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  22. 135s. I will say that perhaps once you grow into being competent pilot and feel comfortable with the jet, it might be less stressful to be an full time engineer and part time guard pilot. In my previous post I should have stated that the engineering field I was in was very time consuming. Other types of engineering professions out there might be different. An ideal situation, which would require experience in your particular field, would be if you owned your own firm / worked from home or something with an extremely laid back schedule. My situation was difficult because I was an entry level engineer that was also fresh out of flight school. But now that I have tasted both careers, I don’t think I could ever go back to engineering. Not sure about other engineering fields but in the civil world, the pay will never match military pay unless I had my own firm with a constant flow of 4-5 different projects a year. 23. I was a civil engineer part time guard guy. It was difficult. because you want to be good at both but it’s close to impossible. Like having two wife’s that are never satisfied with the amount of attention you devote to them. Eventually, you will have to decide which wife or profession you will need to dedicate all your time to. It will be near impossible to progress to AC or PE without one or the other profession taking the back seat. My advice would be to figure out what you love (either engineering or flying) and be the best engineer or pilot you could be. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  24. Not for the interview but eventually you’ll need it. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app
  25. It was a bit of PITA. Mainly the S1 folks and HRC sitting on the damn paperwork and waiting on signatures. The command supported my decision since my commitment was over. Get to know the routing of the 368 and stay on top of it until you have it in hand. Don’t just trust the S1 Lt that probably doesn’t know what’s going on. I meet the deadline for packet submittal. A 368 wasn’t part of the checklist so I didn’t include it. But one of the board representatives reached out before the board meet to ask for it. Thankfully by that time I had it in hand.
