  5. This is what's wrong with our Air Force and country. Self interest rules supreme! Instead of taking two seconds to talk to the old guy, who by the way probably served himself and is in part a reason for why you are free today, you choose to insert more sand in your Vag and grind it around till the point you need a Costco sized tub of vagisil. You're a douche. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

  6. Obviously not easy enough since the pay hasn't changed in a generation. The bonus to 20 YAS was a good start but the DoD and AF need to address fly pay, you know, the pay you get every month to make your job comparable to non AF flying. I get that nobody wants to say they joined for the money. I joined for the money. I also joined to get a retirement at 20 years. I also love my country but I don't work for free. There is a price where the AF would stop bleeding talent. They are either unable or unwilling to pay for it. Fix the money. Then fix the rest of the stupid stuff.

  9. Having lived in California for my first 22 years and Texas for a total of nine (including the last six), I wholeheartedly disagree with this. If you're talking about environmentals and landscape, California wins unless you're into miserably hot and dusty yellow. Austin is a rare exception, but it's more like California because of the culture than the landscape. Now if you're talking about the people, Texas wins hands down unless you like hanging out with a bunch whiny little bitches who don't want you to infringe on their safe space.

  10. These generally sweeping polarizing stereotypes are so absurd. Have you never spent any time in the Central Valley of California? It is Texas with mountains to the east. Have you ever spent any time in Austin or Dallas? They are similar to California cities just with no ocean. I have lived in both states (among the 16 I have resided in) and they are my two favorite behind my home state of Oregon.

  12. Everyone here knows that just about anything in the press related to a "military scandal" is full of incomplete information, and just plain errors and/or lies. This event and how it is being covered in the press is no exception.

  13. You mean that time that insurgents holed up in a building originally constructed to serve as a base for the crusade to convert Native Americans to Roman Catholicism only to be summarily slaughtered down to the last man by the Mexican Army? I don't think that makes the point you're trying to make. But if it makes you feel any better, I wholeheartedly support Texas secession and would volunteer my time to put up a 30 foot wall on the Texas-U.S. border beginning the day after the secession. That's one wall construction project I could get behind.

  16. Money is the easy fix. The other problems causing the exodus are much more engrained in the AF bureaucracy. So if the AF isn't able to accomplish the easy part of the equation, just how in the hell do they expect us to believe they'll fix the more complex issues?

  17. This is exactly what the "it's not about the money" line gets you. Of course it's about the money. It's also about some other stuff. So let's stop saying its not about the money.

  18. The last time I was thanked for my service it was a mom who brought over her 4 year old son. They said "Thank you" and I gave my standard reply: "You're welcome." I then commented on the little boy's shirt because it had F-15s and F-16s on it. It was genuine. I think that our fellow citizens are doing the best that they can. To say "completely disinterested" is a bit unfair. How do citizens hold politicians accountable? Elections. Over the last few years our fellow citizens have delivered us several different configurations of government between Democrats and Republicans: President, control of the House/Senate. Nothing really seems to change. In fact, last I heard, we're thinking about sending more troops to AFG for the sweet train, advise, assist goodness.

Now iv'e been in the Midwest the past couple years so maybe i'm in denial, but lets all just agree that the Midwest is a crap hole to say the least..

  22. Your AFOQT and, most likely TBAS, scores are good. Good scores will not be the reason you get hired by a guard unit. They won't hurt, but I got picked up with scores WAY lower than those. It hurts that you aren't already in the Guard, but dudes get picked up off the streets all the time. The #1 thing you need to do is VISIT squadrons that you are interested in. Get to know people and let them get to know the real you and why you want to be there. If you don't visit, you will be fighting an uphill battle.

  24. Texas has better morales than a lot of the country. Even trying to compare California to Texas is like taking wood shop from a guy with missing fingers. You just can't do it. California is the more obvious choice to leave this country. Their values are in stark contrast to the rest of the country. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

  31. Yeah Oakley makes videos showing the impact tests on their lenses and all their lenses exceed ANZI standards. I've seen friends hit in the face with line drive baseballs and the doctors tell them the only reason they still had their eyesight is due to their Oakley sunglasses. I get where you are coming from with the line of duty determination and my previous comment still stands since I'm never required to wear eye protection in the first place.

  33. Exactly. As you'll find out, some of the queep is required, with YOU held responsible for lack of presentation/enforcement. Furthermore, the real trouble with thinking like a captain is that eventually you're not a captain anymore... One of the biggest problems we have in the USAF (and in the Joint fight) is that for the most part we as airmen have no clue "what the book says." I always found it an amazing dichotomy that as IPs we crush new kids for not knowing what the book says, only to turn around as O5s and O6s and be completely oblivious to how a targeting cycle works, ROE, commander's guidance, JOPP, etc etc. The cowboy captain is effective. The dipshit O5/O6 who doesn't know how things work is often dangerous, and generally a pain in the ass creating more work for everyone by NOT knowing or caring how it's done. Food for thought. Chuck

  34. Hhhm, No. Don't get me wrong, when TC first wrote his Dear Boss letter a half decade ago, I was one of the ones up on my desk jumping and cheering. But the brand has tarnished, that's for sure. As a metaphor, think about other media sources that you've seen handle aviation stories, for instance. Once you have an expert working knowledge of a field, then see it mangled by journalists who only take the time to get a half inch deep understanding of what they then write about, you get the point. In this case, JQP (or whoever is currently carrying the nom de plume) has seized on nothing in an attempt to shake the tree for fruit. I've gotten into more than a handful of bar conversations about the veracity of JQP over time. Bar conversations with folks that have a more intimate knowledge of certain events than I do, and they take a much more jaundiced eye toward JQP, and it's often telling. This story in particular, (if you can manage to get yourself past the CC's haircut and nugget for a moment) is toilet paper thin. It's a policy letter. Read 1-2. The CC is clearly articulating policy, not much more. Since when did unit PT become some abhorrent punishment? Really? Are we a part of UAW now? Can't organize PT unless the union bosses approve? There's plenty that's fucked up about our PFT model. Lets start with a 6'2" dude waist measuring the same as a 5'4" dude: doesn't pass the logic test, but here we are. But if someone is min-running the numbers and the CC wants to attempt a glove save; a CC that actually wants to engage his NCOs to lead; a CC that actually wants to (gasp) Organize, Train, and Equip his squadron for success; that is now offensive? FFS, this is a far cry from the Dear Boss letter that lamented the neutered state of a sitting commander.

  35. We do a terrible job teaching/giving pilots opportunities to lead. I am firmly against a Tech/lead track. I think a dual track system would only further breed problems from those on the "leadership" track. I know this is not going to be popular, but I think we get rid of a vast majority of Officer AFSCs. Mx officer should be a pilot, support should be a pilot, both LEADING the enlisted who are doing the j-o-b. How many times have you tried to get something done at MPF/Finance and eventually talk to the OIC, just to get some BS excuse which you know is just that Officer "protecting" her airmen? Imagine if it was a Pilot who was the OIC and he was once in your squadron. "Hey bro, your boy, Amn Snuffy told me he couldn't process my new cac because they were about to close and it would have pushed him past his 4pm exit time" After seeing what little my SOS buddies were actually doing, I realized that this was pretty much the way forward. Most hadn't been deployed and their biggest challenges were how to organize the next CGO Club Social. This would be a way to expand the "flying" opportunities while developing pilots and leaders who actually understand the plight (Mx) or laziness (some career fields come to mind, you can find them leaving base at 3pm on Tuesday) of our enlisted. I'm interested in what you guys think. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

  36. Counter-counter argument. I'm actually pretty good friends with our wing FM officer....I wouldn't know the first thing about his job after a week of OJT. Do you have any idea what the wing FM OIC actually does? Now, could you do the Amn's job at rh customer service counter after a week? No doubt.

  39. Hello everyone I've got a new website up that is an alternative to guardreservejobs. It's goes out and searches all the reserve/guard units webpages and gets the jobs directly from there so to save all of us the cumbersome task of going to each website individually. Give it a look! Any feedback would be awesome and you can find my email on the contact page of the website. https://afpilotjobs.com/

  42. I always say thank you. But the other day I had a paparazzi moment. I was in the car wash and on my cell phone trying to discuss a referral for off base with flight medicine. An old guy is trying to ask me what I do as I'm moving to avoid him. It was very rude. Respectf the bubble. When I see famous people, I keep on walking and don't bother them. I feel like it has to be really annoying having people f with you everyday. Not everyone is like Shaq. He will come up and start talking to you out of the blue. Make you have a WTH moment. To earn money for the Navy booster club we got the opportunity to do security at an All Star game in DC because of our security clearance levels and Shaq did that to me. Then his manager asked for 20 Nestle crunch bars for the big guy. This was back in 1999 or 2000.

  43. If an elderly person sees you on your phone talking to someone, last time I checked its rude for them or anyone else to interrupt you unless its an emergency. Pretty sure I stated I was on the phone trying to coordinate for my own medical needs. Hell, I could have been talking to your wife and he didn't need to hear the things we talk about. Unless you are going to coordinate for the movement of my records for treatment, I don't see the point in your post at all. Flight medicine issued a referral off base. Why the hell didn't they have me sign a medical release form the same day? After trying to setup my appointment a week later, the off base doctor needed my records and the release form. You try talking to anyone after all that BS on multiple phone conversations. I'm embarrassed by our medical in comparison to my old lady's. My old lady saw me wait 2 hrs for a post operation prescription on base. I guess it never registered to the pharmacy tech I was post op after saying it 5 damn times with a huge bandage on my neck. I had to go off base to have my prescription filled after waiting 2 hours. And you want to take a shot at me trying to coordinate for my medical? If I were you, I would focus more on why your wife is always scrolling through FarmersOnly.com.
