Good afternoon, I'm currently a 21 year old (22 in October) working on my package to be submitted when I graduate from my university. I been in touch with a recruiter and he told me that the Air Force OTS Rated Slots are only looking for Stem Majors. I surfed the internet web and found contradicting statements regarding his claim. If the recruiter's statement is false, I have listed my credentials and experiences below. It would be awesome if you guys can give me some feedback on how to improve my chances of being selected. Age: 21 (22 in October 2017) GPA/Major: 3.36 (can raise it to 3.4 before graduation)/ Marketing AFOQT Scores: I have yet to take…

  5. Hi all, I'm currently a senior at Texas A&M University planning on graduating December 2020. I'm casting a wide net for guard/reserve units and I'm not picky about airframes. I'll be visiting the 187th AS up in Wyoming this weekend and they seem like a top notch group of people with a fascinating mission to boot so they're currently my first pick. Here are some stats: -Major: University Studies Geography, GPA 3.0 -Minor in Meteorology, Minor in Parks and Natural Resource Management -AFOQT: Pilot 98, Nav 87, AA 84, Verbal 94, Quant 63. Will be taking the TBAS soon. -18 flight hours, post-solo but progress is slower than I'd like due to maintenance,…

Hi, I'm currently a sophomore at USAFA who just completed Basic Soaring. I am horrible at flying gliders, after 9 sorties I can not get takeoff, aerotow, or landing without the IP taking it. All of these were graded as hooks. On sorties 7 and 8, I flew with the cadet soaring commander who said my problem was being passive aggressive and letting the glider fly me. My application to be a soaring IP is very good; it's just flying ability which may hold me back. Does this information show that I don't have what it takes to be a pilot of a powered plane?

Hi Everyone, I'm looking for advice on which are my best options for getting my commissioning and going to UPT. I'm currently working as a Test Engineer at Northrop Grumman, have been working in the Aerospace/Defense industry for 6 years and have obtained my single engine airplane private, instrument, and commercial ratings on my own. I understand I will need an age waiver. The AD recruiter I'm in contact with has told me the current AD board is not considering anyone requiring an age waiver. I'm putting out applications to every ANG unit that I can as well as getting the ball rolling with an AFRC recruiter for the unsponsored route. I have no wife and kids and wo…

Hey everyone, Hoping to get some input on what my chances are for a fighter unit. Started college a few years back but never finished due to running my own business. Finishing now at WGU in computer science just to fulfill degree requirement. Here’s my basic info Pilot: 99 PCSM: 99 GPA: Will be 3.0 PPL with 110hrs Past couple years I’ve been a professional racing driver and running my own business. Really hoping to get into a fighter unit, I know my GPA isn’t great and a degree from WGU might not be favorable but it’s the fastest way I can get a degree since I’m 27. Has anyone gotten a slot with a degree from WGU or another online schoo…

Hello! I just wanted to get some feedback on where I stand currently and anything I can do to help. I’m currently a SrA with a little over 3 years TIS, I’m days away from PCSing to Europe. My plan is to start applying for ANG Units my last year over there and hopefully come back stateside for a month or so to come to some drill weekends/hopefully interviews. I’m not sure if this is feasible or not but that’s the plan for now. Also, the goal is fighters. Stats: SrA 1A8X1 w/ 3 years TIS A couple of minor awards (AETC Commander’s Award, etc.) AA in Arabic from DLI w/ 3.5, Dean’s List every semester BA in Arabic Language and Culture w/ 3.66 Cum…

Hello all, I applied for the AD 2021 UFT board and got RPA. I was going for pilot, but was selected for URT. If I decline URT it will disqualify me from ever applying to UFT again due to my age waiver I received for the board. Does that mean if I declined and tried for a guard Upt slot that I would be disqualified as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Hello everyone, I would like to start off by saying thank you to those of you that are reading this that have served and are currently serving this country. I hope to join you soon! (New member here) I am a college senior finally getting to the point where I can start applying seriously to guard units. I'm graduating this spring with an accredited engineering degree and have my PPL with around 120 hours along with my tail wheel endorsement. I will be applying to several upcoming UPT boards in the north east focusing on fighters for now. I'm just trying to get an idea of my competitiveness as well as gain any tips on rushing units and getting to know the right pe…

  12. In my tenure I’ve seen the UPT starting age go from 27 to 30 to maybe 33? What is the latest gouge? Is 33 the limit? Are waivers likely or unlikely? My unit is accepting packages right now and they just want to make sure they aren’t turning away qualified candidates.

  13. Hello there everybody, figured I'd do the same as most people on here and throw out my numbers to get some feedback since the AD board is in January. Little bit about myself, currently 26 and been in the guard since I turned 18, coming up on 8 years next month. Now you all are probably going to laugh, but hell I am too, I'm probably the only case you've seen of an enlisted Security Forces troop trying to jump in a plane, but I think I may just have the numbers to do it. GPA: 3.13 AFOQT: 92 Pilot, 86 Nav, 85 Acad, 98 Verb, 60 Quant PCSM: 62 because I have a whopping goose egg when it comes to real life seat time, however my "prospective" score as I keep seei…

Hello, I'd like to get some perspective from you guys, I'll list what I got while still trying to maintain my anonymity. My current approach isn't working so I'm turning to the internet for some constructive criticism, i'm sure there's no shortage here. Age: 24 I'm currently enlisted in the guard (E-4) I have my PPL with only about 69 hours GPA 3.3 in History PCSM 75 (would be 87 with 201+ hrs if anybody cares) AFOQT 90/80/40/60/30 (or something like that) I got a couple decent LOR's one from my commander and one from my flight instructor volunteer fire fighter In college I was on a few club teams and I tutored history. I know I need to re-take those…

Hey everyone! So I applied to the last UFT board and didn't make it. I applied with pretty terrible scores because when I originally took the tests I wasn't planning on going rated. My original PCSM score was an 11 my pilot was a 48. I just retook the TBAS and thought I did pretty well. My PCSM went up to an 18. I plan on taking the AFOQT in a few months after some studying. My question is, will I see a significant jump in my PCSM if I make it in the 80-90s for my Pilot. From what I read online without flight hours the highest a person can get is a PCSM:70. I'm curious on how the breakdown and weight of each portion is. Any advice helps. Also is have 0 flight hours…

My son tried his hardest on the AFOQT and took it twice while in ROTC. He scored in the 40 for all his sections except the verbal. Both times he missed the cutoff with the same score. He studied but I guess verbal was not his strongest. My question to this forum is if he goes enlisted and decides to go from enlisted to officer will he not be allowed to commission since he took the AFOQT twice at an earlier age? He is still going to stay in school and get his degree but wants to enlist and try to commission.

  18. Hey all, It's been about a year of applying for me. I've been able to get a few interviews at various heavy units last year, but the rejections far outweigh the interview offers, and haven't been offered a slot at any of the units I interviewed with. I'm looking to get some feedback to see where I stand and how I can improve my odds for the upcoming year. To get the basic stats out of the way: Age: 30 AFOQT: Pilot: 98, Nav: 85, ACAD: 93, Verbal: 91, Quant: 98 PCSM: 99 Degree/Major: B.S. & M.S. in Civil Engineering. Undergrad GPA: 3.51, Grad GPA: 3.10. 19. Hey everyone! First off, merry Christmas. 2nd I know I’m a little behind the game applying I just found out you could be a reserve pilot a few months ago, let alone not be a pilot to apply. ANG is the only route for flying within a 3 hour drive for my wife and I. Shoot it straight for me. Scores as follows: Pilot 94 Nav 78 AA 67 Verb 67 Quant 62 PCSM 57 w/5 flight hours. GPA: 2.872 in Poli sci and religious studies (I went full liberal arts in college and first half was rough) I’m a 30 year old firefighter working in a city in New England and have been for the last 5 years. So, long story short after 3 years ROTC didn't work out for me, so at this point my options are to enlist now or pursue a commission through OTS or the ANG/Reserves. I only have 2 years left before I finish my degree, which means I can start applying to OTS late next year. I realize its probably the most competitive route and currently there are no pilot slots for FY14/15. I'm 22 years old so I know time isn't an issue yet. My question is, should I enlist and finish my degree on AD, or should I just finish my degree now and start applying to OTS? I'm not 100% excited about enlisting to be honest (I've spent the last 8 years pursuing officer programs) but I will do it …

I posted over a year and a half ago and after many delays I have more things to show but do want to gauge where I stand in all this. Goal: F15 Unit. I'm applying for this years active duty board, which meets late January. What I'm wondering is, I have over 100 hours with a pcsm of 89, but with the cut off date I wasn't able to get a ppl. That's literally my next step. Does anyone know if the board looks more at flight hours then an actual ppl; and will not having a ppl hurt my chances? Curious what your thoughts are, thanks. Hi everyone, I was wondering if I can gauge people's thoughts or experiences on flight hours and PPL. I am currently applying to a couple of fighter units but as of application time, I do not yet have my ppl (only about 20hrs). Correspondingly my PCSM score is kind of low at mid 700s however with 201+ hours it would be in the 90s. I aim to complete my PPL by end of March but a lot of units have their application deadline beforehand. Do you think that units would simply look at the initial score and flight hours or if I mention that i'm actively pursuing to complete it the units would take that into consideration? How heavily weighted is flight hours essentially …
