I was thinking about making my gouge available in case anyone wants to use it. API, Systems, systems and NATOPS questions, and EPs so far. If there is a good response to this i'll go ahead and do it.

Heard a rumor from a friend at strike nav training in P-Cola that the B-1 and F-15E pipelines are clogged so they are sending these studs to the B-52. Anybody on here heard the same, or have concrete evidence either way?

I know that getting selected to Phase I is tough and Phase II is even harder to pass. But does anyone have any more info on these guys? I'v been to specialtactics.com. How often are they getting deployed? Are the Combat Controllers deployed with the Army and Navy? Thanks for the help. [ 22. June 2006, 17:34: Message edited by: ralph ]

Here's a discussion that started at my work and I want to offer up for discussion. My crew was broken at base X in the desert and a C-17 was parked next to us doing some lengthy stop. Curious, the loads and I went over for a look (we'd never toured Budda before). After a look around the back, I asked the loads were the pilots were and he pointed to the cockpit. I thought this rather strange seeing they were shut down. I walked upstairs to find 3 pilots sitting with the AC blasting, just shooting the breeze. I asked them if they ever helped with the reconfigs and/or helped the loads out. One of them told me, "That's the loads job. Our place is up here." …

Help - I need confirmation of a rumor I just heard. I heard (indirectly from the current Fall class at ACSC) that the ACSC syllabus is changing soon. The course will be more involved and include writing of papers, etc. (and take more time) -- BUT, if you take it by correspondence (in the future), you WILL GET CREDIT FOR YOUR MASTERS too! Anyone have any details and/or facts to add to this? I just came back TDY and you can be sure I will be calling down to Maxwell to find out more...

Do most bases offer language courses? If not, are there any options for officers to learn a 'high value' language besides on their own time? Thanks

I’m looking for some instrument approach procedures that are difficult or challenging or unique so we can needlessly beat ourselves up. Take a look at the approach I attached, for example. The TACAN Y 13R at KNGP is much more complicated than it needs to be, just so they can use it to teach their students. Have any of you come across any interesting approaches in your career? ngp_vor_dme_y_or_tacan_y_rwy_13r.pdf

I did a Google search this morning and this came up. A guy posting on a Warcraft board telling people to ask him any questions they want to know because he is "a F-22 Raptor pilot." I didn't read the whole thing (I'm at work right now), but in one part it says he's at Elmendorf. Here's the link: WoW Page - link updated Go sick 'em boys.

  11. MOSCOW – A Russian Air Force chief said Saturday that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has offered an island as a temporary base for strategic Russian bombers, the Interfax news agency reported. The chief of staff of Russia's long range aviation, Maj. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev, also said Cuba could be used to base the aircraft, Interfax reported. The Kremlin, however, said the situation was hypothetical. "The military is speaking about technical possibilities, that's all," Alexei Pavlov, a Kremlin official, told The Associated Press. "If there will be a development of the situation, then we can comment," he said. Zhikharev said Chavez had offered "a whole island …

"According to the United States Air Force, an F-16C aircraft assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Arizona diverted and attempted to land at the Lake Havasu Airport around 10:30 a.m. Officials say the aircraft departed the prepared surface and the pilot ejected. The pilot is in good condition and expected to be OK." Link to Article

  14. I thought there was a general TDY thread but I can't find it (if it exists). Has anyone used Turo on a TDY instead of going through a traditional rental car company? If so, have you gotten reimbursed? If I can find a nice car on Turo for the same price as the shitbox Hertz is going to give me, why can't I use Turo instead? For those of you unfamiliar with Turo, it's basically AirBnB for cars.

  15. I am currently a college student and I want to get a private pilots license before trying for a pilot slot with the ANG (since it will speed up the training process, and increase my likelihood of selection). However, due to my families recent financial situation, I will have to do it with my own money (which is lacking being the stereotypical college student). This summer I will have an Internship that will pay me a decent amount. If anyone has any tips on how to get a license on the budget of a college student, it would be very welcome!

  16. So, there's a country starting to dissolve in our hemisphere, not far from our shores and I've been casually following the story. It's awful, it's becoming a problem spilling over its borders and starting to directly affect us vis a vis illegal immigration and becoming an ungoverned space that will become a base for illegal activities throughout the Caribbean and Americas. Do we intervene, stabilize and prevent the collapse of the state? I'm fairly cynical on the idea of nation building but I'm not for letting problems just build in our sphere and letting us be affected by them when we could prevent it. I'm not sure it's nation building we should do versus just pl…

  18. Sorry in advance for the weak google/forum searching. What happens if you drop out of/fail UPT? Do you stay in the Air Force and go onto a new career field, or are you kicked out of the Air Force? Sorry again if this has already been answered.

Ok, so i understand there is info about rushing units and what not. But i am trying to rush units that seem to hire from within. The reason for going this route is due to the fact that i don't have the flexibility of moving around and i am also running out of time age wise without needing an age waiver. Currently i am 28 and about to turn 29 in a month time isn't on my side. Also i just relocated and bought a condo about 10 months ago due to my wife's job, so the intent is to have about a 400 mile radius of travel and apply to all within that radius. Not super keen on driving 6 hours a few times a month but i am really trying to do what i can to join the reserve or the gu…

Yep, you read that right. I have been a Guard Pilot for about 7 years and I am wanting to make a lifestyle change and transition to Active Duty. I have sent a lot of emails and made a lot of phone calls and for some reason keep hitting walls. I was told by AFPC, to paraphrase: Nah, that process doesn't exist...it might at some point, but it doesn't now. Have a nice day. Given that there is an explicit and often used process for interservice transfers, I am really surprised to find that there is not an easy way to transition from the ARC...especially with all the TFI they constantly cram down our throats. The Active Duty is in a Pilot shortage crises (as we al…

I have a general question about flight training with the military translating into the civilian world. If someone enters UPT without a license and works their way through flight school, do they earn instrument ratings, multi engine ratings, etc. just like they would in the civilian world? How would that be applied if they don’t have a PPL? Are they automatically applied to their civilian ratings or would a pilot have to sit for a written/oral/practical exam as a civilian as well? I’m assuming the knowledge is the same or very similar. Military pilots have to know how to fly instrument approaches and multi engine aircraft. As a follow-up, does a mi…

I was cruising through some recorded ATC comms on liveatc.net, and came across this of a U-2 trying to get back to Sigonella, and apparently getting some grief from the controllers. Audio doesn't have the controller comm, just the U-2. Pretty interesting stuff though - gotta love VFR on Top at FL600..:) Dragon 20 on 25711.1.wav
