Did I miss this posted somewhere? If so, please delete. Otherwise, what is the backstory since the article doesn't say much, other than the standard loss of confidence. https://m.military.com/daily-news/2014/12/30/spangdahlem-wing-commander-relieved-of-duty.html?ESRC=airforce-a.nl

In a recognition of special operations forces’ reliance on their conventional partners for “enabling” capabilities such as intelligence analysis and engineering, U.S. Special Operations Command head Adm. Eric Olson is rehabilitating a long-lost “truth” that acknowledges the contribution non-special ops forces make to missions. SOCom and its subordinate commands have long touted four “SOF Truths” that encapsulate the command’s self-image. These four statements have become enshrined in special operations lore, frequently quoted by special ops officials. But few special operators know that the SOF truths were written by a non-special operator, or that a fifth truth wen…

Anyone else watch that? Interesting piece that talked about the frat where an ODA inadvertently called a strike on themselves and the B-1 was unable to see the friendlies marked by strobes. Thoughts? Perspective from that incident?

I'm perusing 11-217 and came acorss the multiple applications for the 60:1 rule (descent gradients, pitch changes, arc to radial lead points, airspeed conversions, distance from VORTAC, etc...) When going through Phase II, did any of you frequently use the 60:1 rule? Which applications were used the most and which were disregarded (if any)? Thanks. Just trying to get a feel for whether the 60:1 rule is simply a helpful learning device or if it is something that is required to be learned and implemented. [ 05. Anyone know how behind the 62nd is at LR? When I went for PIQ I graduated 2.5 months late due to those shitty E models. I may be heading that way for the full MPD PCO checkout. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.

Part of the reason I’m able to work the transfer from the Navy to the Air Force is because of the need for pilots. Where does the Air Force plan on getting dudes to fill these squadrons? https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2018/09/17/air-force-calls-for-74-more-squadrons-to-prepare-for-possibility-of-war-against-major-power/?utm_source=clavis

I apologize in advance if this is in a thread somewhere else already. I tried searching, but apparently the words "air force" (go figure) and "one" are pretty common on this site...If there's another thread already, I'll gladly take this there. I was wondering what kind of an assignment working Air Force One is. I would imagine is a pretty prestigious one, and probably also a small group of people, which when combined, make it mighty tricky to get into. Anyone BTDT? Probably some great stories and would make a great book.

The 99th RS is having their Centennial 24-26 August. While not a "reunion", we figure we will make it one anyways, since a lot of Alumni are coming to the event. Details at www.99RSevents.com If you didn't get the email through the U-2 network today, you can contact me and I'll get you the additional info. Most of you have my direct contact info. If not, send me a p.m. with your info, and I'll call.

Saw the Air Force's 30-year strategy just came out, figured might be worth worth discussing. Wonder what predictions written in 1984 said about today...I'd venture to bet they weren't all that accurate. Maybe some of you old heads can chime in on that one. Link for the file, also see attached to download. AF 30 Year Strategy.pdf

As you've read in the Ledgend of Jeremiah Weed thread, Nort Nelson is the man behind the legend. I was just sent this email. Please say a prayer for one of the World's Greatest Fighter Pilots. "I bring you some bad news. Yesterday afternoon Nort suffered an embolism, which is essentially an stroke in the brain. He is currently in a hospital in Lexington (Columbia) S.C. The doctor's have told Big Dog that he will not get better. He has suffered a good bit of brain damage and although he is conscious he will remain a vegetable. He and Big Dog flew back from an air show in Florida (I believe) yesterday. Once on the ground Big Dog noticed Nort acting strange and not ma…

As to our current force structure, are we built to win the next fight(s) against China / Russia? I've been thinking a bit on this lately and a few articles I've read are making me believe we need a change. Peer competitors will not allow us to build up and then operate with impunity from MOBs near their territory or newly captured territory or areas they now assert control over in conflicts or high tension periods. One of the articles I read (WHY THE PENTAGON SHOULD FOCUS ON TAIWAN) and for the purposes of this thread's debate I will say we accept it. One of the arguments from article is that if we use this scenario to primarily prepare for, it will also pre…

It seems some on this board don't know what/who a Patriot is. Fortunately, 2nd Lt. Ryan McGlothlin didn't have that problem. Marine From Va. Killed in Iraq Firefight By Allan Lengel Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, November 18, 2005; Page B04 Donald Ryan McGlothlin of Lebanon, Va., was graduating with a master's in chemistry from Stanford University in California, headed for a PhD, when he decided two years ago to make a sharp turn and travel a less certain road in life. "He came home after two years at Stanford and said: 'Dad, I just don't feel like I'm doing something that matters. I want to serve my country. I want to protect our lands from ter…

Here is the question : Two aircraft, one heavier than the other, descending at the same airspeed. Which aircraft will have the greater VVI and why? The question came up today in a conversation with some friends and most agreed the lighter acft would have the greater VVI but couldn't agree on why. Excuse my ignorance on the subject. Thanks in advance for your input

Hey y'all. I have a situation. I am in pilot training for a Guard heavy unit...and track select pretty soon. I have the opportunity to switch over to fighters, one unit is in the same state, another is in another state. I believe I would get hired by those two units to fly fighters, however, I have to have my unit agree to release me. How likely is this, and really, am I just going to end my career, and get released if I even try? I dont wanna piss anyone off too badly. Thanks alot for any insights. [ 02. I wanted to post this question to see what everyone’s opinion was on requesting a change of an IP. Being in the middle of UPT and talking to fellow classmates everyone is of the opinion that it is totally highlighting yourself if you ask for a change of instructor and that you will hose yourself if you do it. However I was always given the advice by my unit that if I felt I was not learning or just flat out felt I had a personality clash to go ahead and request it. Of course I realize you can’t just go ask for a new IP everytime you get ripped apart for doing something you did that was stupid or just cause the guy is not as "laid back" as another IP. And I do believe t…
