  3. Even though the terms UAV, RPA, and their triple-gold medals and ribbons are not highly favored in these forums, there is plenty of new stuff in development that seems to have been glossed over in the world and, well, in the location where all the intelligent aviators seem to hang out: BA.net. In fact, this is probably the perfect time for us (however you choose to define the term) to look in another direction, and different "insert your own colloquial term of the minute, i.e. synergylisticaly-out-of-the-box" thinking. Rules are: there has to be pictures (SFW), it has to be somewhat-reasonably credible, and no discussion about how the technology will affect your p…

https://www.acc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123445666&source=GovD 4/20/2015 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- The Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force have directed the realignment of the Air Force's B-1 bomber fleets and Long Range Strike-Bomber program from Air Combat Command to Air Force Global Strike Command, effective Oct. 1. The move will realign the Air Force's core mission of global strike and all of the service's bombers under a unified command responsible for organizing, training and equipping Airmen to perform this mission. "This realignment places all three Air Forces bombers under one command and brings the LRS-B program with it," said Secretary of the…

  5. So I read this the other day: The U.S. was supposed to leave Afghanistan by 2017. Now it might take decades. and since the forum has been active on Afghanistan related subjects, namely AFPAK Hands, and the basically universal consensus that it is a waste of time, I wanted to start a discussion on whether or not it is time to leave and if so how? Leaving gets misinterpreted with defeat in battle, not so. Leaving means the completion of our military training mission, determination that our rebuilding & stabilization mission has run its course and that it is time to redeploy our forces & people to the northern part of the country, former Northern Alli…

Extremism 'Has Reared Its Head' in Air Force Special Operations, General Says I am a few years removed from service but in my 26 years I never encountered a single case. Obviously this type of thinking has no business in the military, just wondering if anyone has actually seen anything like this or is it yet another over-reaction witch hunt?

We are getting past a rough spot of flaming and since the board is getting back on track, I thought we might keep it moving in the right direction by sharing a few stories about your most memorable moments in your particular aircraft. In 1990 I took a T-38 to Eglin AFB for the weekend. My girlfriend lived in nearby Shalimar and I thought it would be a great place for a weekend stop. I called before I left Houston and she assured me she would be there waiting for my arrival. I got lucky on the way and found a 200 knot tail wind up at FL 390. As I started the let-down into Fort Walton Beach, I noticed I was very fat on gas. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and it was…

For your enjoyment, check out what our AIR FORCE WARRIORS are doing: -------------------------------------- Comments: Your site includes USAF and AETC symbols which might lead some to believe they are officially sanctioned sites. Good Stuff: Base has a "morale" folder on one of the drives. About 300 GB of music, music videos, games and MOVIES!!! You can check out a vehicle and go to Kuwait City (if vehicles are available) or Camp Doha. Bad Stuff: Dining Hall with many rats and cats. Aircrew Billeting...rooms are small, smaller or smallest. Expect three per room. Tents are a better option. [ 12 January 2004, 13:25: Message edited by: evil load ]

Alright, we need to make a decision basically tonight about this, so any help is greatly appreciated. My wife is moving out to Tucson tomorrow. She was originally going to an apartment that I got for her up in the north part of town, with a lease ending in February, at which time we were going to either move on base anyway or possibly look around for a house to buy (expensive). Well I decided to call the housing office out there today to see what the waiting list was like, and the lady told me they have a three bedroom 1200 sf house they could give my wife TOMORROW with a copy of my orders (I'm TDY enroute for another few months). So here's my question: does anyone h…

If you weren't a pilot, what would you do for a career? Just a fun thread, I guess. Curious to see what everyone says... If I didn't want to be a pilot, I'd defintely want to become an engineer; and if that didn't happen, I'd want to do special forces, or something of that sort. Next...

This may have been discussed already but I didn't see anything: https://www.airforcet...110_usaf_helos/ Air Force nears UH-60 deal with Army By Michael Hoffman - Staff writer Posted : Monday Nov 1, 2010 13:32:48 EDT The Air Force is close to finalizing a sole-source deal to buy up to 93 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from the U.S. Army, according to defense industry sources. Air Force officials launched the effort to replace the service's Vietnam War-vintage UH-1N Hueys with commercially available helicopters last year. From the beginning, the Air Force said it would make performance tradeoffs to keep costs down for what is called the Common Vertical L…
