I'm trying to find someone with experience as a shooter and rated aircrew. I am reaching a major crossroads and am looking for all the advice I can get. Here's what I'd like to know from anyone willing to offer: Whether you went from SOF to pilot/nav or vice versa (rare, I know), are you happy with the choice you made and would you make the same decision again? Also, from your experience would you recommend one more than the other? Thank you in advance for your responses. So everyone has some idea who they're responding to...I'm 25 and grew up in a family of shooters (PJ, SEAL). I know, although only second-hand, the pluses and minuses of life in the SOF world. B…

  4. Is it possible? I imagine that quite a few units are bottom heavy with everyone bailing to the airlines as soon as they hit ATP mins. I'm worried about getting enough flying time when I get off seasoning days. I imagine local sorties wouldn't make much sense, but I would love to jump on a deployment since I won't be back from PIQ before my unit heads out. Also, under the new "Total Force Office Training" model, can Guard dudes go fly with a Reserve unit or even AD? Thanks!

Had a buddy ask me about divorce law and the Obama federal change to it. Didn’t know how to answer. Figured there were some people in the know on here that can help. He got divorced prior to : https://apgnews.com/community-news/legal-note-divorce-military-pensions/ passing. So his divorce says he is suppose to give her 50% of the days married while in the service. Then that percentage carried out over his whole service. For easy math if they were married for 10 Years of service and he served 20 and retired she would be entitled to 50% of 10 years which would be 25% total of his entire service worth of retire pay at his retired amount. The new federal law passed say…

I searched the forum and found a lot about Clovis and Cannon AFB but that was it for New Mexico. It's probably a long shot but has anybody lived in the Las Cruces, NM area? I'm looking at my next assignment being there but I'm not sure how I feel about moving to New Mexico. I've never really been there before so I don't have much basis for my prejudice but it is definitely not high on my list of places I think I want to live. So if anybody does know the area, how good/bad would it be for a 26 year old guy with no family?

Hey wxpunk, Actually the story about "Kerry the Pizza Snatcher" is not bullshit at all, it comes straight out of the new book "Wreckless Disregard" it was written by a former light Colonel, Buzz Patterson, who flew 141's and later carried the nuclear football during the Clinton administration. He wrote another book called "Dereliction of Duty" I highly recommend these books to any military member who may consider voting Democrat and consequently voting themselves out of a job, or anybody who is looking to get really pissed off for that matter.

  9. So, I don't have a passport (gov or civilian). Yes, save me the lecture. My commander is open to releasing me a bit early because my replacement is getting out here early. I can hop on a Mil Air and get to Italy or Germany pretty easily. How difficult would it be to get home commercial from there? All I have are NATO Orders and military ID. If not commercial, Space-A?

Alright... this might be a litte out in left field but i thought i would throw it out there anyway... so here it is. I got an email from this guy from the company we organized our spring break trip through. everything was paid for about 2 months ago, then i got this email today.... "Many of you have already received a few emails from StudentCity.com with mentions of a fuel surcharge. I am sending out this email to help explain this charge if it is to happen. Many people are under the assumption that this last minute charge is something the company does to squeeze extra money out of our travelers before they leave. That, by far, is not true. This small charge is not …

We got the message today that officially the wing is planning on at least a 6 month slip to the closing timeline. There was a congressional policy letter that got forwarded to us a few weeks ago. It proposed a new study or something that would add 6 months onto the timeline for the closure. We still don't have any official word either way, but I wouldn't mind if we got extended for a bit!

10 years ago this month (April 1-11) this happened. I work with the only AF guy on that plane (now a Capt) and he is a really cool guy. A couple of gee whiz stuff about that: The Chinese Pilot's name is Wang Wei which when pronounced sounds like wong way The pilot got a DFC for landing safely (and handing over tons of secretes to the Chinese) while the crew got AMs.

Found this on Fox News. A soldier in Iraq asked an online mattress company if they would sell them some floor mats so they would not have to sleep on the ground. The soldier got an insult in return. The company surely has been getting plenty of flack for the incident so they shut down their website. https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,245718,00.html [ 23. What is the current status with ‘hawg retirement? I have heard various opinions such as they are re-winging all 281 aircraft (implies non of them are going to be retired). I’ve also heard that they’re planning on retiring about 40 or so aircraft, and several of those will be from guard units. Any concrete answers out there? Or is it a constant variable depending on politics and current day events? Fingers crossed they’ll keep all 281 🤞

I'm trying to establish a class bank account for our B-course class. I was wondering if anyone knows about the tax rules regarding such an account. I've already got an EIN number but am worried about tax-exempt status. I realize we can request exemption under 501c (19) status as a veteran's organization, but as the filing fee is 300 BUCKS!! I wanted to see if anyone else has tackled this before. Thanks in advance!

I'm posting this for a good friend of mine who is a former Marine Cobra pilot. I don't know much about what the actual job entails other than it's an office job that pays 6 figures plus benefits. He specifically said they were looking for recently separated or retired AF Osprey pilots. If you're interested and/or want more info, drop me a private message and I'll pass along his contact info.
