Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you get a pilot slot and are committed to 10 years AD in the Air Force, aren't you pretty screwed if you decide you don't like it? While it seems most people like flying for the AF, not every job is for everyone. I just don't see this discussed a lot, and it seems like a major issue. Am I missing something?

Hey all, hopefully this is the right section to be asking these questions. My thread didn't really seem to fit any so I figured this would be the best place. So I am very interested in joining the Air Force. I am going to be a sophomore (at college) this coming fall, so I am late to the party (I'll be joining ROTC). I am a Civ. Engineer with a 3.5 GPA. I would love to become a pilot. But there are a couple things that are scaring me. I am a single guy and I want a family in the future. I assume I will have time to find a girl at some point early in my career...but will I be able to start a family and have them in an ideal situation? Let's say by the age of 35,…

  5. Interesting argument for light (very light) on-demand direct airlift for small, specialized cargo/passenger requirement. https://warontherocks.com/2019/06/featherweight-airlift-for-want-of-a-nail/ Is there a requirement for this? Is it affordable? Does it offer secondary benefits? It was interesting that the authors were/are respectively both fighter aircrew and not airlift aircrew advocating for this, thoughts?

I have heard alot about the c-5's all going guard. Is this true? A few people in my squadron have said that they have moved all c-5's out of Dover and that they are all going guard. What about the Travis c-5s? I am about halfway through phase 2 at UPT and was hoping to be able to have the c-5 on my dreamsheet. Is it still a viable option?

I'm not sure why I'm linking this news story, other than it just angers me so much. I've thought about terrorists trying to kill as many innocent people as they can and how screwed up in the head they have to be....then I read about these people in today's paper. protesting at several American soldiers' funerals

In light of the much talked about AF "bullsh*t" on Active Duty as well as the seemingly inevitable stint in a UAV, I'm considering the Guard route instead of AD. For those of you that are Active Duty, do you wish you went Guard/Res, assuming you would keep your airframe? *Sorry if this belongs in the Guard/res forum. I just thought it would be a little redundant to be asking Reservists and Guardsmen if they wished they were Reservists and Guardsmen.*

  11. MPF at my duty location won't pick up any of their phones. MPF here at my TDY location basically said I'm not their problem. So I'm just looking for general guidance/advice as I rethink my life plans. I got the call from my CC yesterday saying I won't be making Major. I didn't get a DUI or harass anyone or get any other type of paperwork. Just didn't make the cut. it happens. Any input on the following questions would be greatly appreciated: 1. Is there any point in requesting a records review? 2. If passed over twice, will I still have to fulfill my ADSC or will my Date of Separation be set to 6 months after the second board passes on me? 3. Will I b…

If a special request falls through, meaning it wasn't in the drop, should one request the aircraft/assignment by other means, i.e. hardship? How long would the process take? The hardship would be for my wife's medical issues and we want to be close to family for assistance. I don't want to create waves in the system, but at the same time, I don't wan't to be called home from a future deployment because this all could've been avoided if I filed for hardship out of UPT. Any advice would be appreciated... PP

From BBC: 1011: More on the US warplane that crashed late on Monday in Libya. It is understood that the pilot was taken by rebels and is safe, the Telegraph says. So far there have been no independent confirmation of this report. 0959: The Telegraph now says that the crashed US warplane is an F-15E Eagle Not entirely true. More info on the high side for those at work.

We had two fail it, they just had to take it again after Tweets if they ended up going to 38's, so I guess the rules are still the same. I think the strike navs have to do it too... If you are lifting weights and keeping in shape, you will have no problems with it. The biggest challenge is the fact that the reps are so slow. Try it someday and gage your progress. Most of my class got over 200, including me, and if I can do it...

I recently finished IFS in Pueblo and have been seriously contemplating not going to UPT. I am due to start at Laughlin in July but dont know if I should go. I had a good time flying but I just dont think military flying is for me. However, I do want to be in the Air Force, just not as a pilot. I have not talked about this with my commander but I just wanted to see if anyone out there would have any insights on if I would simply be forceshaped or be able to work in another AFSC. Any advice/help would be great. Cheers.

When will this happen. Will portions of the AF be transferred to space force? Vandenburg, Patrick, Peterson?'

Today, AFPC released the results of the RPA Crossflow Board. Our WG/CC will discuss the actual numbers with us tomorrow. But I know of at least one dude who has been released back to AMC for a move in FY12. I do know that it was only about 10% that were released out of the 500+ eligible.

I’m pretty clueless when it comes to stuff like retirement, investing, and so on. But I’m starting to get concerned and want to make sure I’m going to be okay at retirement. I want to start to learn this stuff so can anyone recommend an on-base service that might help me with this? Would USAA be a good source to get info? I have a brother in law who was in the Army and is now a banker so he can probably help me decipher the specifics of programs but he will probably first ask me what programs are available (if any). I’m just looking for something stable and relatively low risk to start putting money away for the golden years. I have no idea yet if I will be in f…

I remember reading in some reg that aircrew aren't permitted to wear sunglasses with polarized lenses. Is this just something guys slough off, or is there an actual, viable reason not to wear them? The only thing I can think of involves distorting one's view of the HUD or something...who knows. Thanks!
