Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I'm genuinely astounded; the IRS really does seem to cover every eventuality. Alternatively I'm just disturbed that there must have been someone who considered their taxation practicalities whilst their child was kidnapped to result in this eventuality being covered. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc357.html

Not sure if this should go under WTF, or as a new topic (or if it should even be posted - Mods, feel free...) and I wasn't even drinking (heavily) when I decided to sign up, but: Let's get bald for kids with cancer! You heard it right - I'm shaving my head in solidarity with children who have cancer and typically lose their hair during treatment. When you're already ugly, bald can't be much of a step down, but it is for kids with cancer. Please join me in Raleigh, NC at the Hibernian Pub (I'll but the first pint) on 27 Feb at the 'shaving chair', or support me and the kids by making a donation at the link below. Bumbled on to a whole bunch of BBC produced episodes of a guy named Ray Mears talking about all sorts of survival techniques, with a pretty big emphasis on food. He also has a couple where he retraces the steps of Geronimo, or Rogers Rangers. Pretty interesting if you're into that type of thing. Well produced and not the sensationalist Bear Gryls nonsense. example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCkT8cwJPZM&feature=related

My squadron just moved to a new building with no provisions for a bar. Currently, we might have enough room to construct a bar table with a couple of taps, but a room dedicated to a squadron bar would have to wait until we went to J's. Since I'm starting with a blank canvas, I'd like to hear what you guys have seen in your squadron bars.

Yeah I know its not airplanes, politics, or bashing the Air Force, but do me a favor and watch it anyway. This a great reminder of why America is such a great country. For all our financial troubles, our political disagreements, and other conflicts that seem to divide us more and more...when it really counts, Americans take care of each other. We are FAR from perfect, but we still are a great country.

Another one. I can't find any articles on the internets yet, but the local news just reported on another attempted shooting, this time in New Mexico. The news story said that the volunteer fire chief of Velarde, NM (40 miles N of Santa Fe) showed up to a meeting of firefighters today wearing body armor and carrying an assault rifle. They said he allegedly pulled out a pistol and pointed it at the group. They charged him and he ran away. Police are still trying to track him down, armed and dangerous. It sounds very much like a copycat of the Aurora shooting, but thankfully with a very different outcome. https://www.clipsyndicate.com/video/playlist/1805/3687980?ti…

I just saw a story about a heritage flight in honor of Bomber Command's strike on the Ruhr Dam in Germany: https://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/daring-dambuster-wwii-mission-remembered-vintage-flight-164910484.html At the end, they compare the movie's final scene with the trench run in Star Wars, and I found this:
