Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Never heard of Sgt Schmid until this, but sounds like a great guy and one who did an especially dangerous job to keep others safe. Here's to him . Hello, This may seem like an odd request, but I am looking for approach charts for OTBH (Al Udeid) if possible. I am doing a simulated flight from ETAR to OTBH, and I typically get my charts from Navigraph, but they only have charts for OTBD. Does anyone know of any online alternatives to Jeppesen? I don't mind payware if it is reasonably priced. Thank you, Audiohavoc

I've heard from someone at Shaw who knows Todaro that the bold text above may be a key factor in the charges that resulted. Clearly anyone with a brain knows that pushing someone for groping your wife and then heading to another bar isn't exactly attempted murder. I highly doubt he was trying to push the guy just right so that he would hit his head and die...and Todaro probably didn't know how badly the guy was hurt. I'm sure there is more to this story, but so far my reaction is "YGTBSM..."

  9. Now I find myself faced with the dilemma of voting in favor of my own pocketbook or with actual principles. As much as I love money though I think I'm going to have to actually stick to my own principles here and not vote to pay myself. For those who aren't aware there is a proposed amendment to the state constitution in Ohio on the ballot this November, Issue 1. This amendment would authorize the state to issue up to $200MM of bonds to fund payments to any veterans of the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan or Iraq. The payments would be $100/month not to exceed $1,000 for anybody who served in the actual conflicts or $50/month not to exceed $500 for veterans who served elsewh…

A British soldier serving in Iraq died after a hospital transplant gave him a pair of lungs donated by a heavy smoker, a coroner has heard. Corporal Matthew Millington, 31, of the Queen's Royal Lancers, was stationed in Iraq in 2005 when he was diagnosed with an incurable condition which left him unable to breathe; he was told that he would die unless he had a lung transplant. He had double transplant surgery in April 2007 at Papworth hospital, in Cambridge, but less than a year later doctors found a tumour in the new lungs and, despite radiotherapy, Millington died in February 2008. Analysis revealed he had been given the lungs of a donor who smoked 30 to 50 roll-u…

Unfortunately, my travels to Stuttgart two weeks ago didn't allow me time to get to Munich; but I have experienced my fair share of German fests and loved each and every one of them! I realize a few on here may never have had the opportunity to attend a fest or the fests of fests, Oktoberfest; so here are someone else's pictures as why it is so popular. Beer, lederhosen and a lot of cleavage...a winning combination! Prost! M2

You've seen the Breitlings, Omegas, Citizens and Seikos but here's another take. I have decided to become a small business owner on the side from hanging out in the bar. I am now the sole distributor of "The Pilot's Watch" in North America. I am offering this watch to my friends at a special discount before I go nationwide. If interested, it will be available with leather or neoprene bands, white or black face, all for the introductory price of $995.00. But wait, if you place an order in the next hour, I will ship you a second watch absolutely free, just pay the additional shipping and handling fee of $995.00 Hurry supplies are limited and going fast. …

Kandahar Airmen Use AFSO 21 at War "After a brief Lean training session, the team proceeded to inventory all of the items in the shelter essential to the A-10 phase inspection operation and segregate the things they did not need or use. Once finished, the team straightened the area and gave it a good cleaning by sweeping the floors and turning in unneeded items to supply." Okay, so they clean up after themselves and call it AFSO 21? Way to go dudes! I'm going to clean up my work area tomorrow and add it to my OPR fodder!
